    Great memories, I bought a Duchess of Montrose in the late 1950's early 60's for £3/17/6d having saved up Christmas and birthday present monies. It was great enjoyment racing it round my 6' x 4' double track layout.

    Oscar you continue to capture the spirit of the Dublo and the Triang model railway systems perfectly.
    You asked the question regarding the year of the Toys of Quality catalogue.
    Typically Meccano would print a code on the back page of all literature.
    At 21:10 note the code is 13/758/450. the middle digits would indicate July of 1958 which is confirmed by publication of the initial batch of Super detail goods stock, the L30 Bo-Bo diesel electric plus the colour light signals.

    Lovely to see these older models still being enjoyed as intended. Even with the shrinking and warping, those old Tri-Ang models are still beautiful things on the layout.

    I had an Hornby o Gauge Clockwork train set one year for Christmas. It was the tank engine and 3 Suburban Non Corridor Coaches. The bu8ldings using plaster of Paris which were available in the 79/s 80/s was Builder plus if my memory serves me correctly. The Dinky Building sets look like Bayko.

    Hi Oscar, great video once again, looking forward to seeing the layout develop.
    I had a Linka set in the late 70s. Maybe I was a bit too young but I found it a bit fiddly, the pieces, once cast, being easily damaged and hard to glue together to maintain any strength. The moulds seem to be quite sought after judging by eBay prices!
    I know a chap who has a 3 rail Beyer Garrett made out of two Dublo 8fs it is a really impressive model.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Рік тому

      Hi Anthony, the pieces never did fit together quite as expected, like you mentioned they were often broken bits, very frustrating, an item I got for Christmas one year, my enthusiasm for it didn't last very long...
      The Garrett sounds terrific.
      Take care.

    Another great episode and what a super catalogue. I had some Meccano around the same time it was the 70's style blue and yellow range, I've got up to set number 8 but never got to my dream set number 10 that came in the wooden drawer casing. I do remember the army set at the time, there was also a construction site themed set as well.

    Never seen a three rail version of the train tester before. I have the two rail version. You can get 3 rail track which looks like the two rail track only with the extra rail in the middle. So you don't have to buy the Hornby Dublo track, if anyone does want to collect the locomotives. The Duchess is a beautiful model, much better than anything else we have seen on these new layouts. I have a body of the model, which came in a box of bits. Sadly the cab roof was very bent.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Рік тому

      Good morning Graham I've not come across contemporary 3-rail track, sounds like a very interesting option. The rolling road is the standard Hornby one, I made a modification to it which is completely removable back in the first lockdown when I went over my collection of three rail models and gave them a service as I had so much time on my hands. I've just added a length of balsa wood paint it black with a rail length (contemporary Hornby nickel) trimmed off at one end with some of its sleepers in place stuck to the ball wood which sits neatly between the movable rollers, the other end of the rail with its sleepers removed it's just held in place at the power feed end of the rolling road with a balsa-wood spacer. All unnecessary really as a crocodile clip would've done the job, but then there was a lot of free time back then!
      Thanks again take care.

    Interesting to note how in this era, the Hornby locos are far more sophisticated than the Tri-ang ones. The Princess doesn't even attempt to replicate the prototype's valve gear whereas the Duchess has a full set. But times were going to change and Tri-ang would master plastic moulding to great effect; twenty years later Hornby was long gone and its products seem crude by comparison with Tri-ang (or more accurately, Tri-ang Hornby) products of the seventies and eighties..
