I always thought Beverly and Cortelyou both stayed open because the platforms of both are extremely narrow so neither could handle the passenger volumes on their own
yep, it's genuinely extremely unsafe how narrow the platforms are even at their wider points. they are so narrow that the countdown clock has to face the platform. i wouldn't be surprised if someone has been pushed into the tracks
They'd better not close Beverly Rd. & Cortelyu because they are beautiful, go through some beautiful old Brooklyn neighborhoods that make me feel human again on my return trip home from work. I love all the stations on the outdoor portion and the view of the Manhattan skyline at night is both iconic & breath-taking.
If you go by chaining codes from EOP to EOP, Fulton to Wall on the 4/5 southbound is actually 7 feet closer in distance than Park Place to Chambers is!
I also think Wall Street and Bowling Green are close stations similar to Wall Street and Fulton Street and between Fulton Street and Park Place. Also Park Place and Chambers St.
Looking at ridership numbers, both of the station complexes in question with the 2/3 are complexes that are in the top fifth of all subway stations in NYC (Park Place complex was 9th in 2019, Chambers was 70th). The Beverley/Cortelyou situation is more puzzling to me as Beverley has low ridership, but I read somewhere about the narrow platforms at Cortelyou so perhaps it's to lessen the load on narrow platforms there.
Yo Bro, I really appreciate this video. I actually went to Beverly for the first time earlier this month as I had to work there all night. First of all, I agree with you, the architecture of those stations are second to none. I'm from Bronx and we don't have stations like that. With that said, I remember thinking to myself like yo, these stations are so close together I wonder if by the time the train can cover both stations at once. Visually it seemed like it did but I couldn't quite confirm. But you just did and I really appreciate that. Nice to know that there are others out there fascinated by these types of things. Maybe one day you can do a video detailing the length of each train car types in the system. I've always wanted to see a side by side comparison. Anyways. Great video Bro 💪🏾
There use to be a Subway station on the Franklin ave Shuttle that was closer then Beverly Road and Cortleyou Road. And was Dean Street on the Franklin ave. It was about two and half blocks from Fulton street. That who station was full apart. And the MTA decided to do away with it when the line was rebuilt. Also alot of people didn't use to pay to ride on it. The MTA closed it in 1995
What about the distance between Bowling Green and Wall Street on the 4&5 line? It seems even shorter than the distance between Park Place and Chambers Street.
You have to remember that back than they used 5 car trains before platform expansion. Now if they did platform expansion for cortelyou and Beverly Rd backwards both train stations would have been far apart.
Great Video. The Brighton line reminds me of the London Underground stations. Also a few stations in Sydney. I would like to check them out but. I have been in NYC in a long time. Cheers!
Taipei has that at Chiang Kai Shek station. The two westbound lines are on one level. The two eastbound tracks of the same lines are opposite each on another level. Same idea as Siam skytrain station in Bangkok. Facilitates transfers .
Not only this but the 28, 23, and 18 Sts stations all a very short 5 blocks apart on the 1,2,3 line. But it works because when expanded for 10 cars, I guess it wasn't exaggerated like 14th Union square, hence the 18 St closure.
Park Place 2 & 3 trains is connected to World Trade Center on the Path Red and Green Lines. Close that down you are going to make 14th st 2&3 trains overwhelmed with PATH Train transfers on the JSQ 33rd st via Hoboken line with some of them via Red line
If you're an Anglophile, does this mean you've traveled the shortest distance not he London Tube, Leicester square to Covent Garden which is about 840 feet, much longer?
I take the Q from the thumbnail I knew it was Beverly and courtelyou Beverly and courtelyou are the closest stations I’ve ever seen You can see the other station down the tracks
I know some other ones Forest to Seneca on the M Montrose to Grand on the L Dekalb to Jay st on the R Aqueduct north and aqueduct race on the Manhattan A Bowling green to wall st on the 4-5 14th to 18th on the 1
It's exactly 814 feet from 18th to 14th and 739 feet from 18th to 23rd, according to the track diagram chaining codes. Bear in mind that it is exactly 775 feet from 28th St to 23rd St on that same line, and yet for some reason I never hear anyone demanding that either of those stations be closed....
real New Yorkers know that this isn't accurate The 7 line in Queens There is a stop 74st to 69st , only 5 small blocks , which takes around 15-20 seconds
It might be shorter time-wise, but the distance between the platforms is 828 feet! Both of the station pairs featured in this video are shorter distances.
I always thought Beverly and Cortelyou both stayed open because the platforms of both are extremely narrow so neither could handle the passenger volumes on their own
Hm, good point. I wonder if that is indeed the case
Never thought of that. Good point
As someone who used to daily ride the Brighton line this is 100% the reason why
Same
yep, it's genuinely extremely unsafe how narrow the platforms are even at their wider points. they are so narrow that the countdown clock has to face the platform. i wouldn't be surprised if someone has been pushed into the tracks
Great video. The footage on the Brighton line is rocking
Thanks!

I don't even know what that means!
End of Platform@@ommy7672
Don’t know the measurement piece, but anytime I rode with my Dad it always felt like literally 10 seconds from Fulton to Wall
I actually knew this bc I went to a daycamp near wall st and we rode either the 4 or 5 and it is shorter. By a lot!
I guess EOP means end of platform.
I remember when the Q had 160s how the announcements for Beverly road would play while the last two cars were still in cortelyou
I also think Wall Street and Bowling Green are close stations similar to Wall Street and Fulton Street and between Fulton Street and Park Place. Also Park Place and Chambers St.

Gun Hill Rd on the Dyre Ave 5 line is an interesting station in a cut.
@michaelsullo3698 yeah it's definitely different from the stations we typically have in the Bronx. I like it
How about the Aqueduct station on the A line, when the racetrack is open the station for the racetrack is practically at the end of the regular stop.
Thank you so much as a recently new viewer from Birmingham England 🇬🇧 this video is very interesting and well done
Great video, young man! Well done!
Wow, never noticed that. The train can be at two stations at once 😂
Would’ve figured Wall Street - Fulton Street on the (4/5) would’ve been closer.
Are you sure you don’t mean Wall Street and Bowling Green?

That was the best hop the train stop in Crown Heights back in the days.
Dean St was the murder station

@6:09, wow. I love trains and public transport in general. They are my preferred ways of getting around.
Thanks Dude, I thought i was the only one who thought about things like this, lol…
Interesting video. I didn’t realize those stations were so close together.
broadway junction and atlantic ave on the L is pretty close too
What about Broadway Junction and Alabama on the J and Z?
Hey Toby you forgot to mention from Fulton Street to Wall Street on the 4 and 5 lines that's also one of the shortest distance
Great Video. The Brighton line reminds me of the London Underground stations. Also a few stations in Sydney. I would like to check them out but. I have been in NYC in a long time. Cheers!
It was named ave C before they renamed it to cortelyou
Another close bunch is Neck Road and Avenue U however, there aren’t any trains at Avenue U when the front gets to Neck Rd
Interesting tidbit, SEPTA (Philly), on their regional rail at the airport has two stations that are actually on the same platform.
Chicago has 3 stops like that on the Red and Blue lines that are like that with multiple stops on the same platform downtown.
The 18th st station is still open.
The Brighton line has very close stations. Beverley n Cortelyou, Ave J and H, Neck Road and Ave U.
Neck road and ave u is super close. Wouldn’t be surprised if the front of the train is in one station and the back in in the other.
Speaking of Neck Road, the abutments of the bridge for the former Neck Road LIRR station would be a good site for elevators.
Pelham Parkway and Morris Park on the 5 line is a short distance walk between the two stations.
it's 110-116 on the 2&3 trains
What about intervale and Simpson st on the 2 and 5?
I thought about those 2 stations when I saw the title and there is about 380 feet between the 2 stations.
Park Place 2 & 3 trains is connected to World Trade Center on the Path Red and Green Lines. Close that down you are going to make 14th st 2&3 trains overwhelmed with PATH Train transfers on the JSQ 33rd st via Hoboken line with some of them via Red line
Grew up at this station always thought it was the shortest
Nothing beats cortelyou and Beverly
Growing up in South Brooklyn my God I hate Beverly and Cortelyou stations. I always thought if I was mayor I would immediately shut one of them down.
I learned a lot.
I thought the 7 line Vernon/Jackson to Hunters Point was the shortest
Also on the 3 line the distance between Nevins St and Bergen St is pretty short.
simpson and intervale is one of them
very interesting video!
Has to be 18th Ave and Ave I on the F. Can't be more than 3 blocks away
Edit:'Ok I was wrong but I'm usually on the B train 😂
Between hunters point and vernon jackson on the 7 is also really close. I wonder how it compares to this.
I thought Simpson and Intervale Ave on the 2 and 5 were the shortest
I used to think it was hunters point av and vernon blvd
It's got to be Van Wyck to Briarwood no?
If you're an Anglophile, does this mean you've traveled the shortest distance not he London Tube, Leicester square to Covent Garden which is about 840 feet, much longer?
Wow I thought 116 to 110 on the 2 line is close.
I would have thought the distance between 33rd Street and 28th street were also short.
I take the Q from the thumbnail I knew it was Beverly and courtelyou
Beverly and courtelyou are the closest stations I’ve ever seen
You can see the other station down the tracks
3rd Ave - Union Square on the L is shorter
How long would it take you to walk the two stations?
There’s 3 stations on Harlem! That’s way too many
"Division"?
A Division = The Former IRT lines (all numbered lines and the 42nd St. Shuttle)
B Division = The Former IND and BMT/BRT lines (all lettered lines)
@@steveclark4544
42nd St Shuttle is internally "0" (zero)
Elder ave and soundview ave
I know some other ones
Forest to Seneca on the M
Montrose to Grand on the L
Dekalb to Jay st on the R
Aqueduct north and aqueduct race on the Manhattan A
Bowling green to wall st on the 4-5
14th to 18th on the 1
Atlantic and broadway junction is definitely closer on the L
Union Square and 3rd Ave L is way shorter
He’s lucky nobody snatched his phone lol😊
He can see who's behind and in front of him. Stop being so paranoid.
What about 14 St to 18 St on the 1
Looks like that's around 700 feet between platforms
@@TobyPannone110 st & 116 st on the 6 line?

So the B train probably passes by both those stations in 30 seconds or less
