He is one of my all-time favorite singers, and he won the show after many grueling weeks singing his heart out. IMO, this performance was one of his best on the show. He explained his emotions later in the show, that one of his Mom's good friends had died in a car crash, and his parents took in her son as their own. The son had recently gotten married, and Matt sang this song at the wedding. The emotions were high at the wedding and some of those feelings came into his performance here. Matt continues to sing and perform all over Europe, and was a main character in a West End show Memphis. Thanks for the great reaction.

8:07 Matt's experience with crowds was basically pubs and small festival tents :) So nothing even close to a full studio setting, let alone being aired on an xfactor scale. They did a real good job on him regarding his stage confidence tho.
In several interviews he also mentioned the shoddy equipment on the xf stage. He had to wing this slow moving song without proper monitors. In-ears were unusable for the first 7 weeks, and the speakers in the roof created "sweet spots" and you could easily lose the feedback if you moved your head too much. No pressure at all :O

Great video, I like your reaction, it reminds me mine when I heard Matt’s First Time (and his voice) for the first time on UA-cam. His voice is incredible and I think it’s getting better, I saw him just yesterday on online gig and his performance was mindblowing. Thanks for this video🙌

I would not have chosen this because of all the XFactor crap and he was super nervous , but this is the song that clinched it for him. He went on to a number 1 single and platinum album. He was a member of the great band Seven Summers. That is the band he mentioned. Naturally there were some hard feelings when he left the band. But in 2019 Matt ran into the guitarist from Seven Summers and all was forgiven. They started performing again and are working on a new album. I doubt there were hard feelings regarding Seven Summers. They even called the "journalist" who published that drivel a "lying c-nt" on their fb page LOL. The post was visible for years until the page was "sanitized" of all old posts just before they started their anniversary rehearsals.

It’s a real shame that Matt Cardle never became a huge international star. He was an unfortunate victim of Simon Cowell’s obsession with boy bands (One Direction were the runner up that but got all the attention). Although his drug and alcohol issues probably didn’t help either.
In my opinion, Cardle should be as big as Ed Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran became a thief. So hard pass on that LOL.

I heard that he had a deep-seated fear of flying, which kept him in Europe. I always wished he had come to the US, but he never did.
