Some b roll gameplay of the boss in the swamp area. Pretty much concludes all preview related content. I'll try to post more tomorrow. Enjoy!
What sword is that? It looks so cool
So in FF7 rebirth, unlike the original, the fight with the giant snake will still be mandatory despite the use of Chocobos ?
CURSE THAT SEPHIROTH! Always stealing bossfights at the crucial moment!
I love how you can tell from the UA-cam slider, that the most viewed segments are the best parts of the soundtrack.
I find the lack of "Did Sephiroth do this?" quite disturbing
Lmfaoooooo
I agree
They’re just shoving him down everyone’s face in these games instead of building him up as a villain like the original 😕
@@kgisabeast But is He really the main vilain this time?
Agreed. They should've left that part as it was and showed one already dead and impaled on that tree like the OG. It's great that they let us fight the snake early on rather than being forced to run from it, but that bit at the end with Cloud being dragged underwater with Sephiroth showing up to save him kinda ruined that part for me
Chocobos like, nah, homie, you handle this. XD
Lol lmao lol 😅😅😅😂😂
Shame none of them were Chobi.
that shit was funny
This boss is kicking my ass so hard, but I love it because the same thing happened to me in the original lol. I just need to grind a fair bit and explore more; I rushed a bit to the serpent to check it out for nostalgia's sake.
I was struggling with this boss too. I picked up 2 extra ice materia spammed it with blizzard and it fell fairly easily. Just something for anyone else who is stuck.
The religious experience for Remake was Airbuster's boss theme. Calling it this early that Rebirth's is this theme, particularly the third phase. What a slapper
4:30 are you kidding me?!?!!? that music!! holy jesus chipes!!!
Square still GOD OF BATTLE THEME MUSIC
Yea music in this game is next level, it's the reason I came to this video
I had to pause just to listen when this kicked in. One of the best battle themes ive heard in any game since the original!
Are you kidding me? What music? The boss battle for Janova was hot
The musics in this game are the best part.
Sephiroth: Leave my traumatised little puppy alone!
can you imagine how ultima weapon looks like in this gameee.. insanee
Given how the weapons work in the game its probably isn't going to be Clouds best weapon (just have his best none limit break skill) but yeah it'll probably look pretty dope in the third game.
Seeing as how this is a boss fight video, I think he may be referring to the boss fight "Ultimate Weapon" instead of the acual weapon gear "Ultima Weapon"
@raffyguevarra7777 neither clouds ultima weapon or the boss ultima weapon is in this game.
@@terry85mar I know. When did I say they are? Are you dense? Inwas just saying what the commenter most likely meant with his comment.
I love how both parts of the Remake follow the same red story string as the original, yet change some parts up to make it more interesting for people who already played the Original.
In the Original you also needed a Chocobo to avoid the Snake and reach the cave, but you don't fight it and just see it impaled on a tree
I like the original feel of facing that enemy. You try hard to beat that enemy and grind a long time, just to see one-winged angel show how far he is over you as a team.
Right. It's like these developers don't know shit about what made the original so compelling.
@@stephenneal23the people working on this are the same ones that made the original, every single one of them.
@@AlesSimoncia Including Hironobu Sakaguchi, the guy who wrote the original story and produced it, because he seems done with Square's nonsense.
@@stephenneal23 Sakaguchi only wrote the very initials draft of the story, very few of his original ideas ended up in the game, it was mostly wrote by Kitase, Nojima and Nomura.
@@AlesSimoncia Yes, but if you follow his work out of FF you see he understands the importance of the ludonarrative, which is something these guys seem not to. FF7 has a good story, but the way it is told is really its greater strength and the crew who worked on remake and rebirth seem not to understand that.
Seeing Barrett getting eaten and spit out was just too funny.
I remember going back to defeat the snake after obtaining the Skill materia. I'm stealing all the monster's skills
I would grind out all of the characters' Limits around the Chocobo Farm. By the time I got them all done, Midgar Zolom was a reasonable fight and I could get Beta then.
Is this in the demo?
You can't learn beta enemy skill from him in this game. In fact you can't learn barely any enemy skills at all. There's only a few like in demake. Such a huge missed opportunity.
As much as i love this fight, it really reminds me of a similar encounter from final fantasy 15, looking forward to playing this tomorrow
Barret is yelling at the birds to come back. Like they're really gonna do that.
So the fight is MANDATORY at THIS point in time?......Ooooh, I HAAAAATE THIS! The whole point of this sequence was to showcase just how unprepared you REALLY are to take on Sephiroth. Before you stands a massive marsh, which you have to pass using either chocobos or trickery. For if you try to take the looming shadow head on, you come face to face with a MASSIVE, just completely GI-GANTIC serpent to which you are absolutely, completely no match at this point. Only lunch. So you have to cross the marsh WITHOUT coming into contact with the giant snake which spells out death otherwise; and you eventually do.....only to find, on the other side of the marsh, a SIMILAR giant snake's corpse, brutally impaled upon a giant spike, which is quickly deduced to be the handiwork of Sephiroth. This serpent, which is impossible for you to defeat at this point, which you had to run away from and narrowly avoid.....was effortlessly taken out by Sephiroth, the guy you are chasing......you are not ready to face Sephiroth.
Fighting it at this point in time just detracts from the horror of the revelation, mystery of HOW Sephiroth did it exactly and from the test of strenght that you have to return later to as a benchmark. And for what? More Nomura-esque bs?
Oh please. This was epic
Thank you, I can't believe how many people I've seen saying this new way was better, because you could finally see what happened. The mystery of it, is the POINT!
Amen!!! This is epic!!
That wouldn’t work especially considering the party actually battled Sephiroth at the end of the last game.
Shut up
The music 🤤
Honestly I find both ways they portray Sephiroth’s strength in both versions.
In the OG you find another snake skewered on a tree, and you are left wondering if Sephiroth did this.
In Rebirth, you fight the snake as a boss, and it takes quite a while to beat it, and you still couldn’t kill it. Then Sephiroth shows up and two shots the same snake, showing you firsthand that the boss you had a bit of difficulty beating, wasn’t even a warmup for him, indicating a massive power gap.
Stttupendous!!!
Boss fight is awesome
Beat him first time, With this exact party layout.
the music is SO FUCK*** GOOD
its amazing
RIP Ashton's mate
Nice that the party that was out of the battlefield can be brought back.
original: *recommended using chocobo while crossing to avoid encounter*
rebirth: *auto summon final boss*
3:57 beta enemy skill
I loved the music change in phase 2, can't wait for the rip
Well this time we deifnitely know Sephiroth did this. 😂
bro the drums tho no wonder he's so scary daaaaaaaamn
6:17 - Welp. .___.
Amazing FFVII Rebirth. Amazing OST
It’s Ashton!!!!😂
Jesus Christ, this comment section…….I hate purists so goddamn much
Different direction but like it also!! Game is going to be amazing.
Is that what Hamaguchi meant when he said that Cloud was always safe because Sephiroth "cares" for him 😅 ? I freaking knew that after hearing this we would have Sephiroth saving Cloud from death at some point in Rebirth, didn't expect to be from the Midgar Zolom.
Poor Cloud will feel bad that he needed to be saved by his nemesis and the man hates the most 🤭
Did anyone else have a weird music bug during this fight? The only thing that played for me were sound effects/voice clips, the music never started. I thought it was intentional at first lol.
I had to completely reboot the game because the music was absent for the Mythril Mines too.
What's the point of the chocobos if the Zolom fight isn't skip-able. Aaaaah.
Story.
@@mariogirl8100 story = taking away player choice?
@@Oecobius33 No, it's Rebirth, a rework of the original story. (Besides, pretty sure they deliberately made this fight easier than the original game because it's required for the story to progress)
@@mariogirl8100Which also ruins the point, because the party was clearly doing well against the Boss, so Sephi wasn't even really needed. (Except for the writers then declaring that you did well, BUT Cloud is now strangled anyway for some reason)
@@CaptainTitforce He was taken by surprise.
I remember you got a nice 'Enemy Skill' off this Serpent in the original, I don't think it was matra magic, can't remember.
It's beta
@@FBIStatMajor That’s the one! 😀
I’m disappointed you don’t get the skill here. I used that attack a lot in the original
I wonder if you can still learn Beta from it.
FF7 Remake had an enemy skill materia so I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to
I have enemy skill materia equipped. But when I fought Zolom here, I didn’t learn it. In fact, Beta doesn’t even hurt you. Beta is part of a cutscene and Cloud dodges it.
Beta doesn’t damage you but sets all the trees on fire
@@RamenReignssThat sucks balls then. Beta was pretty OP if you could learn it early enough. Same with Aqualung
@@dlc_2678 it really does. I used that move a lot in the OG, I was looking forward to seeing how badass it is to use beta in the remake
Now I see how the Midgar Zolom in the FFVII game was killed by Sephiroth. hahaha
Yeah sephiroth one shot it with his legendary long blade katana
I just watched a streamer beat this thing in two tries. They didn't even grind before the fight, it was too easy.
ah yess….
you learned enemy skill “BETA”
Not sure if I like this or not, I feel like they've butchered half of Sephiroth's presentation in these games. What was so enticing about him in the original was the mystery and the unspoken results of what he does, he just seems too....present...in these games.
One minute you go to sleep after being captured, the next minute you wake up and there are dead bodies lining the corridors, blood splattered everywhere. Nobody knows why this has happened or what unspeakable monster had to have done this. All you can do is walk through the corridors to the head honcho's office, only to find the leader of Shinra is impaled on a sword that Cloud identifies as belonging to Sephiroth. THAT was suspense and unspoken tension which was entirely missing from the remake.
You find a giant serpent in the swamps and either got Game Over'd by it or ran from it with your tail between your legs. Most likely fleeing and avoiding was the only option, unless you grinded to hell and back to have the chance to finally eke a victory against it......only to find another physically impaled on a tree like it was a joke. Again, Sephiroth didn't have to be seen to be a terrifying presence, his results spoke for himself. Now it just feels underspoken. Sure it looks badass and you can see the difference between Sephiroth and Cloud, but the whole issue is just muddled by the whole "rescue" aspect. Rather than being a terrifying visage of his power, you are just stuck with confusion on what his presence here means.
I think that confusion is what they are banking on, and that's going to be the divisive thing with the fanbase. FF7 is over 20 years old, so the vast majority of Remake/Rebirth players have either played it, or they know the story. So SE decided that since they can't re-invoke the mystery of Sephiroth, double down on his sheer overwhelming presence. Use what everyone knows from the original (or thinks they know), then make twists to be both nostalgic and original. It's a canon attempt at an AU fan fic. The players know the original story, and it's implied that some characters are aware. But these games want to be more than just a modern graphic rehash. It wants to be it's own story while acknowledging the original. We can only see if it succeeds or not in that ambition.
@@HavocPrime8989 People always say this, but I feel like the fact that the game is over 20 years old is precisely why most players haven't experienced it at this point. Anyone who didn't start gaming until 20 years ago or less (which has probably become a majority of active gamers at this point) probably don't actually know these moments, and instead of having a palatable version of what truly made them special, they're giving them arguably less effective fan-fiction versions of them, for the sake of surprising the now niche old crowd (many of whom have outgrown the need to be superficially shocked by novelty).
I think some of these changes can be improvements on the original, but I do think it's playing with fire, could be hit or miss (personally, I think the demo was a hit and this scene feels like a miss based on this video-- the impaled snake was a powerful moment in the original and feels very sloppy and cheesy here), and I'm not sure I agree with the artistic justification for it. As a marketing decision, I do think it's smart though, simply because it keeps people talking about it whether they like it or not.
@@richardkhchang These are very good points, and I agree that it is going to be a very hit or miss thing on the mass appeal of these changes. And I myself felt like the impaled Midgar Zolom was iconic and a miss for this iteration. But I do want to give it a chance to see if it is a good game on its own merits. And unlike a lot of great games that are lost to time or you have to jump through hoops for, the FF games are easily accessible. Heck, I want to almost argue that FF4 has more ports than Skyrim and is second only to Doom for being on every system.
IDK I think this sells me more on Sephiroth's power than the snake already impaled. You get a cool boss fight with crazy spectacle like Beta going off ending with the boss still having enough strength left to kill Cloud without Sephiroth's intervention. Extra bonus points cause I always wondered how he got the damn snake up there since I was little. Also this is very inline with Sephiroth too since he knows saving Cloud would probably make him "chase after" him more. Makes sense to me.
There's a certain scariness that also comes from someone who seems to be everywhere watching rather than someone who's always just "in another castle" all the damn time imo as well. The fact you never really get to confront the dude for most of the original game always bugged me and when you do actually fight him it's not in the way you want to cause his arm looks like a damn chicken wing. That always bugged me back then. The character design people are so attached to is never really confronted until the final scene and it's basically just a omnislash cutscene.
They can't do the mystery of sephiroth anymore because everyone who has even heard of FF7 knows who sephiroth is. They can't make mysterious, so they will make him more intimidating
I noticed this about the 1st game but did they have to inject Septhiroth into almost everything? Gets kinda annoying.
That's the point.
What made Sephiroth one of the best villains was its legendary nature: everybody talked about his power and how dangerous it was, you knew he was there, but you could rarely ever see him. Too much Sephiroth in the remake.
It’s a staple of bad writing, in that everything now needs to be shown on screen and nothing remains a mystery.
agreed. They took out all the mystery. Like how in remake, they took out the part shinra building where you wake up and there's dead bodies everywhere, smeared blood on the walls. No mystery whatsoever. It's like Squre Enix doesn't understand what made the story so good in the first place.
Sephiroth killed the snake in the original. Or rather a clone did. For most people, if you brought your party there the snake would wreck you. So this is what's supposed to happen.
I was kinda happy with the fight experience, but also disappointed with the Zolom fight. I beat Zolom on my first try in this game, he wasn’t as challenging as I hoped. Beta doesn’t hurt you, and you don’t even get learn it as an enemy skill. Zolom was almost unbeatable in the OG at first. Still happy I got to experience it tho, and Zolom is still fucking scary lol
Jesus that music!!
Omg the sword with the materia 😮
Light work
Where did you find this?
Why they change its name zzz wasn’t it migar zolom in original
Probably a translation issue back then.
Is it possible to fight this more than once? I wasn't able to stagger it.
Chapter select
this is incredible
Musik was off on this scene 😅
midgard zolom in ps 1 is much bigger right? the design was much more like deformed snake because of nuclear waste too
Nooo, Ashton!
So is this, like in the original game, an optional boss, or is it mandatory boss?
Mandatory now; optional then.
Dose it use beta still ?
Well if you think about the last game timeline changed something messing with the timelines
In the original ff7, I went back to fight this guy and only got like 750exp even after struggling to win still compare to other things I've easily beaten as the story progress and earning like 10k exp
Golden Sun The Lost Age allowed party members switch in and out, Teken Tag did also ☝️ 🤷
How did you get to play this??
Why did Sephiroth help Cloud here?
@AhhZeeOww2 how would sephiroth need cloud?
@@AsimSiddiqui007Maybe because Like Sephiroth he’s a test subject and because of Jenova cells like a brother. He knows Cloud is the only one that can stop him. Keep him confused and use him to those ends.
@@ivanskirchak4935 so sephiroth wants to be stopped by Cloud?
@@AsimSiddiqui007 To confuse him. Maybe a potential ally. As I stated they are practically brothers. “Jenova cells” He keeps him around because he’s useful. Better a strong ally than a powerful enemy.
I know what you mean though. At this stage, Sephy should get some common sense and realize that Cloud is there to stop him despite having Jenova cells. Sephy is dumb.@@AsimSiddiqui007
Can you still learn beta skill from this one?
No 😢
Maybe part 3@@RamenReignss
The game is not out so how ???
Considering I played the original I know how the second demo is going to go it's going to go the city of Kalm, then the Chocobo Farm, then the marshes which is right here where you reverse that snake then once you enter the cave is going to be another boss fight that's a new feature then after that we go to Junon then that's the fish fight thus the demo ends
Demo version?
I remember when. I was a child there a way to pass through him without fighting him
i really want to see this but im just gonna wait =(
someone wanna explain to me how tf cloud went from the bottom of the swamp to shore? bro literally drowned then teleported in the next scene.💀
It appears as though Cloud blacked out at the end there, so it's possible that one of the party members swam down and retrieved him when they realized he wasn't coming back up.
I also have an insane theory about this moment, but I'm pretty sure it's false, so the above statement is the most likely explanation.
Is it just me or did they shrink it a bit? In the OG it seemed massive, and while it's big in this one, it doesn't seem to be scaled right.
as i 1st play FF7 at 20 years ago. i never mention the can get through this swam and i leveling till i could beat this snake as take about 2-3days 😂😂
Tifa be in the bench tending to the chocobos 🤣

Which one? Sephiroth? Do you live under a rock? You can tell me.
It was better as a mystery and no blue magic cannot get Beta i mean nice graphics no not make a game great. Feels like an Action RpG light like the last one. No wonder FF16 and this undersold from what they thought first half Playstation players are still in Ps4 cause well not everyone has $6 to however much they sell for now.
60 fps all the way baby..buttery smooth gameplay
Cant wait for KotR
Que hermosura 😊 no como la porquería del primer remake
This was out on ps4
I am getting my arse kicked with this boss…I suck 😂
This is a complete failure to recreate the potency of the zolom encounter. It's intent is to say that you are not powerful, you can not beat everything. And that the thing you can't fight, that you must run from, is NOTHING compared to the enemy you pursue.
Now you just beat a snake, and then cutscenes happen, and your enemy saves you for some reason.
Is this a optional boss? Terrified of snakes lmao
No chapter 2 end boss. So you got to fight it
Monster Hunter4G ?
the sw prequels sucked but itd still be kinda cool if this cinematic had the zolom get eaten by an even bigger monster like what happened to the opee sea killer in phantom menace. look at how big that whole underwater area down there is. itd only make sense if there were other critters too
when I encounter this f#% I was like wtf I don't have to fight it before...anyways I almost have my whole team wiped out on advance mode..
Midgar Zolom
it's different from the original. I thought we'd see a fight scene between Sephiroth and Midgardsormr, instead the whole crowd is there witnessing the snake got impaled. Kind of a let down to me just a little disappointed.
4:11 Micky Mouse?
LOL I HEARD THAT SHIT
What was the problem with the Midgar Zolom? Seriously, someone know why square changed its name?
Also its new appearence is weak.
That's what it looked like though... they added depth to the scales but he had the forehead and horns on the OG model as well. If you don't remember compare the two again.
I’m happy with the appearance. I got kinda a little scared for the fight cuz I had flashbacks to the original when it use to one shot kill my party with beta lol.
“Midgar Zolom” was always a mistranslation of Midgardsormr

Also likely to have sephy show up more times that is likely a shadow/ghost/whatever of him to really be the bread crumb trail more.
I still like the fact they really did the thing in the original ff7 where Sephy left a corpse of a giant snek that you originally needed chocobos to avoid, flaunting how ez he mauled it back then and they kept with the tradition.
Anyway, can’t wait to see how many psyche outs to psyche us back in they pull at the end of the month. ^^
