I'm named after Mr Hayward. As a kid i was drowned in this music and hated it. At 35, his music has touched my life in a way i can't quite put into words. The blue jays album is one of the greatest pieces of work ever written. Thanks dad.
My sister rest her soul named her son after Justin also The Moody Blues are what peace and harmony are in the true sense of beautiful lyrics and voices sharing their music with our parents, children and friends They are powerful tools to take with us on our way to the shelter of a God who wants us to be able to see inside of and beyond ourselves and love is their own gift to old and young. I'm happy that you had a Dad that saw you in their music, as did my sister. Be proud .
jrich$ , I took the name Haywood as a surname when I was 21, after Justin Hayward! I love this song and this album is my second favourite album after Trespass by Genesis! sttgaegoaktd
As I mention to Jrich$ below, I’m a fellow Hayward and was raised on the Moodies and Bluejays/Songwriter. It’s a fabric of my DNA and my family’s DNA as a whole. I listened to This Morning today after being away from it for some time... I was quickly overcome with emotion and frankly rendered a crying mess lol. How swiftly the song crescendos and takes you to that symphonic landscape, voice, guitar, drums, piano, strings, bass, all encompassing and complete. The Moodies got a lot of crap for their lush sound, but if it doesn’t hit you where you cannot hide, then it wouldn’t be such great music. Thanks for listening, I know I’m in good company here. “Do it, Don’t doubt it....and keep on thinking Free”
I was given this LP from my aunt, who bought it new in the 70's. I took it home and played it on my record player for hours, literally, hours. I still have it after 27 years. My aunt is gone now, but I will never forget the memory of when she handed this to me. Blessings.
I remember the first time I heard this song. Linda... If you're reading this... this is the first song you played for me the night we saw "Cookoo's Nest". It was also playing in my head the last time I saw you. 1976
Justin opened his 2016 tour with song. My mid twenties son and I were in total awe hearing this timeless song...never before played live. Tears to the eyes and soul.
bricebu. Yes... and so brilliantly composed. The musical changes are startling and grounding at the same time. Smooth perfect landing before the second verse. Excellent background synth/strings and piano. The quality remains to this day.
No one can top this band ever such original music have all of moody blues albums plus blue jays never get tired of they had such original music no one will ever come close when I was young higher than a kite could just sit back and melt with their music
In the past few years, the Internet, mixed blessing that it is at times, has given me back the Moody Blues, and made concert information available, so I finally got to go to a concert. And who would've thought, back in the seventies, we'd be able to 'follow the tour' on UA-cam. Great stuff!
I discovered this album when it came out. I was a junior in college, heavily into King Crimson, YES, ELP... but Justin's songs from those Moody Blues albums of my high school days had always impressed me. Blue Jays was simply staggering. I still have that original vinyl. I remember one Saturday night wandering with friends through my college town, and met this girl visiting from another college, looking for a boyfriend who had just broken up with her long distance, and she had the Blue Jays album clutched to her, and I knew without asking why she had brought it with her. This album goes beyond touching your heart - it touches your soul. And to jrich$ - my first son was named Justin, and he's proud of it!
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever, and this is one of the most beautiful videos ever. Wonderful interpretation of the song. Thank you so much - I will watch this over and over and over and over.......
These may be the most stirring lyrics I've ever experienced. John and Justin MUST come out with an anthology of timeless collaborations. They'e quite hard to find, and out of print. These songs are on my Bucket List.
Great track from a great album, Justin Hayward a genius I'm proud of him he comes from my home town never made a bad recording the Moodys Blues outstanding the best band in the world xx Love Nutty Nige xx
+Karen Davis I also had this album, many many years ago...this song still stay in my mind since...remember the lyrics, once in the time sing them in my mind....
I'm surrounded by electronics, in a world that makes little sense and I never thought I would ever hear this music in public in the times we are living in. Brings great comfort. Mt childhood band, all over again. Just Grest!
The late Tony Clarke was definitely the best producer the Moody Blues ever had. He gave the band a special unique sound, specially Justin Hayward s guitar.
Luileadolfo Absolutely. I’ve always thought Tony Clarke was criminally underrated in the Moodies success. The band hardly ever mentioned him after about 1978. Poor guy apparently died after suffering some marital issues. Very sad. They owe him their careers basically.
I just love the way Justin incorporates rock with orchestral backgrounds. Deccan didn't know that their idea as a demonstration record would open up a whole new genre of music.
ColorADream, you are a wizard of the Prime Level. I am grateful for your artistry applied to such profoundly sensual music as this, and the many others you have graced. Thank you.
You MUST GET Blue Jay's. The album is every bit as good as any of those Moody Blues early albums and the cd version has Blue Guitar as a bonus track. When you are in the mood for a heavy orchestral piece listen to Nights, Winters Years. Another Justin classic from the Blue Jay's album.
@Chrisneeley2122 I second that emotion. This has been one of my favorite songs for over 30 years. What a great combination of high energy, awesome beauty and powerful rock.
It will be a sad day when Justin hangs up his guitar. The moodiest are all ready touring separately. Wish him, John and Graham the best of health in their twilight years.
Hello jrich9017. My youngest son will be 30 this July.....also named Justin after Mr. Hayward. Nice to meet you. Kev from michigan in 2024. Listening to Blue Jays at 3 a.m. with headphones in the dark and warmth of my recliner
Dave ....Another beautiful and magical video! Good to see someone has found inspiration. If you come across some you don't need drop it off my way(lol)
I guess I was'nt alone, when I also named my son after such an important man and musical influence in my life. I only hope my son feels the same as you,Mr. jrich$. It is a name he should be proud of... for many reasons
This Morning -- Someday, some bright light will, one would hope, write the simplest of all grand opera from the brilliance that is the Blue Jay album. The dramatist might need a few other songs from Justin and John solo albums of that period, such as John's Natural Avenue and Justin's Night Flight and/or Songwriter. The MTV videos are fine examples of what works with the music in tandem. Yet, a bigger, more comprehensive form as an archive needs must appear. Make it soon, too, please. See ya.
The drums in the closing part blending superbly with the guitar are what I love most about this song. A unique ending, not anticlimactic but uplifting beyond words.
Well, this was after the breakup of the Moodies. Still, this song was on the album "Blue Jays" - Justin and John, former Moodies, hence the name the Blue Jays. Why does everyone dis the contributions John made?
Lake Havasu, place with Red Rocks Oboe is nice, instead of always flute. It is the soaring guitar that "takes you there". Nicer as the Moodies. John singing along is so perfect this is just not the same solo Graham's drumming, etc is really good on this tune. Not as good, solo. Really beaute of a tune. Makes me miss the Moodies- and I'm not really a concert goer- clostrophobic, hate getting stuck in crowds, despise walking through" mob" to get to car. This is a good album cut. Glad I heard it both ways. Impersonal, solo effort and Masterful Moodies take on it. Miss the Moodies, so mucho.
@whydoiwant1 Yea, yeah, brother of the heart, no problem; may you well enjoy life, life as it awaits our open heart, clear minds. We step into the light and back into the shade; yet, the light has shone upon us; we keep the taste of its sweet eternity. The heart has its way, at last, leading us back to the promised land of one heart, one destiny.
Looking for a song by Justin Hayward...can't remember the name of it, but it's about a girl who left home to be on the stage. She gets a letter from her father. Can anyone help?

Must agree,an album of organic beauty that came from soulful musicians at crossroads after those early moody blues years.
Neil Carlson well said
jrich$ good up bringing

What a sad day when all the Moodies retire. Best music and lyrics ever written. Thank you
Justin et all
Sad to say we have lost 2 Moodies already Ray & Graeme.😥
I remember the first time I heard this song. Linda... If you're reading this... this is the first song you played for me the night we saw "Cookoo's Nest". It was also playing in my head the last time I saw you. 1976

This is a monumentally underrated track.
....from a monumentally underrated album.
SOOO underrated!...I was obsessed with this album, when I was a kid..Every cut on it, is great! Still great. Timeless.
bricebu. Yes... and so brilliantly composed. The musical changes are startling and grounding at the same time. Smooth perfect landing before the second verse. Excellent background synth/strings and piano. The quality remains to this day.
Not in my book!! One of their best songs and albums!! ∞ Love ∞
bricebu aren't they all!!??
Moody Blues, all of them including the ones who have passed away are really the inspiring group,.
No one can top this band ever such original music have all of moody blues albums plus blue jays never get tired of they had such original music no one will ever come close when I was young higher than a kite could just sit back and melt with their music
Justin Hayward is a great composer of variety music - that's pleasing to the ear, without being overwhelming !
In the past few years, the Internet, mixed blessing that it is at times, has given me back the Moody Blues, and made concert information available, so I finally got to go to a concert. And who would've thought, back in the seventies, we'd be able to 'follow the tour' on UA-cam. Great stuff!

Agree. Tony Clarke was a major reason for MB success.
I just love the way Justin incorporates rock with orchestral backgrounds. Deccan didn't know that their idea as a demonstration record would open up a whole new genre of music.

Great scenery to match a great song. They fit well together.

It's almost anticlimactic...but I really like the drums in this tune as well.
That's Justin!!
The drums in the closing part blending superbly with the guitar are what I love most about this song. A unique ending, not anticlimactic but uplifting beyond words.
Bravoooooooooooo...........i know its just Justin and John...but cant you see Mike playing that mellotron in this one?
beautiful!! Have I gone soft???
Nah, you've tuned into the correct frequency!!!
