P3400 P3497 Valve pause system stuck off ( Try this First )

- Honda setting code #P3400 and #P3497 valve pause System stuck off both Banks. If these codes set in your Honda and you have a check engine light on before spending any money I would recommend changing the oil and clearing the codes. If the check engine light and codes come back on I would bring it in to get professionally checked out or see if you can get it covered under warranty as per service bulletin 13-055

This video saved me a lot of money. It was my oil level down . Changed oil
All good 👍
Thank you good man, I'm extremely grateful for your tutorial, you have made my day majesty , thank you again God bless you always.
Worked great for me twice now. Oil level was the issue in two separate Honda’s with this exact same P3400 P3497 pairing. Thanks!
Awesome, glad video helped out!
Dude thanks for the video! I replaced both the gaskets in the top of the spool valve on my 09 Accord to fix an oil leak. The next day it threw P3497. I had already purchased a whole new spool valve assembly but luckily I stumbled upon your video before I installed it. Threw in some fresh Mobil 1 and boom code is gone. You saved me 130 bones. Much appreciated!
I changed the oil 5 w 20 like honda specifications. I added water remover in tank. Filled up with super unleaded gas and added fuel injector cleaner same time. Opened swirched on pause valve and changed them from Advanced auto. Car ran crazy but code got cleared up after few days. If you are not comfortable change oil and replace the top half part of vvt solenoid. Buy DORMAN brand from Oreiley for 100 bucks and it is good to go. It has to do with dirty oil and gunk built up. Everything works good for a month like a champ.
Thanks for this post! It was very helpful!!!
Thank you for the video. It helped me to look up the same code via ODBII device on my 2009 Odyssey. I checked oil level and it's really low. Did an oil change and reset the code. I'll update if the light come back on again...
Ryan Le did it?
did it?
Did it?!?
Thank you very much save me a lot of money
Awesome! Thank you for this, I was just about to look up parts bit I'll try this first.
Thank you!! Mine just came on and I was so worried. I held off on getting my oil changed and it was scary low! 😂😬 won’t do that again!!
Saved me from being tricked and overthinking . . . I believed it was that 🔥
Thanks for the tip 👍
Thank you!!! You’re awesome. Kudos for explaining it so well 🥲.
i changed engine oil and oil pressure sensor on Honda Pilot 2009 but p3400 code cameback. What should i do next? thanks
Thank you!
Yup! Throws this code every time I’m a few miles short of an oil change or is low on oil.
Oil level is fine. Can I drive it from IL home to MI? Runs a little rough, but okay on highway.
Thank u for this video
Mine had these codes. Changed oil. How do I reset the check engine light?
There is also a screen in the vtec solenoid that can get stopped up restricting oil flow. Usually caused from incorrect oil and late oil changes. You will need a new gasket the old one almost always Disintegrates whenever you remove the old one anyway. This will also save people $. And on some honda engines there is a o-ring inside the valve cover that van swell and restrict oil flow causing these codes. I worked for honda for almost 7 years lol
I changed oil but of no use l, Potentially Solenoid or pressure switch issue
Does having it to full effect dtc
Thanks 😊
Thank You!
Had this problem. customer went -3500km past the oil life indicator. Hardly any oil came out too.
So I replaced my oil pump check the oil pressure replace both solonoids on bank one and bank 2 and oil pressure switches on bank 1 and 2 with Honda parts and I replaced the oil pressure switch at the oil filter The code still returns
Would this cause a car to just stop running?
I have a 2014 Honda Pilot. P3400 dct light came on before oil change. When oil level checked it was full. Shop reset the code. I drove home from work approx 34 miles and 45 minutes, light hasn’t come on yet. But have a long family trip and nervous. What problems could occur or to watch out for while driving?
If light comes back on, should I be worried for that p3400 code again?
It was probably due to a low oil pressure reading which is linked to the cylinder shutoff system which shuts down cylinders when you do not need the extra power.
Now that you have changed the oil, your oil pressure should be normal and the light may not reactivate.
Thanks!
Thank you
this was so helpful - i will change oil this weekend. How do i clear the codes afterward?
You can clean codes with and small hand held scanner or stop by your local parts store and they can clear them for you as well.
I have this code come back twice after replace the new with new oil and front spool value gasket.
I have the same problem, did you solve it?
Hello guys I have Honda 2010 pilot Elll 4 wheel drive . This 3497 is pop on on my dash board. And also when I gave it accelerate it vibrated and I hear noise. Could you tell me what is the problem? I just changed oil then later the light is off
me right now :/
My car starts to shake when I come to a full stop really bad went to autozone check the code & it came up as the p3497 do I just chnage that? Or what else can it be
what did u end up doing?
I have tried all that you say I only have the doubt. I'm getting only the P3497 while my odyssey is cold works fine, but when it's warmer the code come back. What can I do? By the way I changed the oil pressure sensor (in the Rear side) is that the correct one?
I'm in the same situation. I only have P3497, oil level is good and it not old. We're you able to fix the fault ?
Thanks for the video. Luckily I have a trustworthy place I take my car (2010 Odyssey with 300,000 miles)
Thank you for the tips. I had vtech gaskets replaced 2 months ago because of leaking + alternator. I checked the oil levels, it's actually about max. Could that be the problem?
I have the same problem, did you solve it?
What car do have
I replaced gaskets. Car worked great for 15 days like new. Code came back on highway. I replaced switches. Car worked for 10 miles. Now valve pause system is stuck. Do I replace entire assembly or just the top part? I can't do the body of solenoid. I can do 3 bolts and install Honda or after market part. Please advise.
I have the same problem, did you solve it?
@@dean78c1 I replaced upper portion of soleoid assembly. Oreiley sells life time warranty part. Changed oil. Added fuel injector cleaner and filled up with super unleaded gas. Clear the codes and drive at 2000 rpm for few weeks. It should clean up all gunk and car should run fine, It has to do with dirty oil and gunk built up.
I have a 2010 honda odyssey that has this code I'm going to replace the rear solenoid spool valve but the engine is vibrating pretty good at the moment will this fix my problem?
Also I just had the oil changed and I'm worried about the engine vibration
Yes, the engine will run poorly if its setting these codes, in most cause but not all the time.
what if it says bank one?
My 09 Pilot has had this persistent issue. Always when I'm on a road trip. The ECO mode tended to foul my plugs and a new plug/coil was replaced. Disconnect those pressure sensors at each cyl head to turn off ECO.
Hey! My oil was almost completely gone!
Do you know what might be happening?
No leak and doesn't smoke, I'm confused 😐
Same thing happens to me. 2012 pilot. Losing 3 quarts of oils every 5k miles
I just had this come on after an oil change on Honda Odyssey 2013. Assuming to the dealer / mechanic to get it looked at?
What was it
Were you able to fix it ?
If I recall correctly, mine needed the service bulletin mentioned in the video as the oil change was just done and after clearing the code it came back pretty quick.
@@JeremySchwartz2027 so you were never able to get rid of the fault code?
@@AntonAtan basic scenario was had oli changed. Then code showed up. Reset code to see if it would stay away, it did not. Brought it to mechanic and they had to do the service bulletin work to get the code to go away.
I had this code, 2012 pilot. I changed the oil and the check engine light went away. Mind you. The car lost 3 quarts of oil. It was running on 1.5 quarts and the low oil light never came on
Fixed my truck. Low oil, your awesome!
I was getting both codes. I went and got an oil change. How long does it take for the check engine light to go off on its own? I have. 2010 Honda Accord ex-l. It’s v6 but when I’m just cruising the little green ECO light pops up in the dash to let me know it’s only using 4 cylinders instead of the 6. It’s not doing that as of now, I had an oil change last night. Does it take a day or two? Or does it depend on the miles?
It takes about 30 to 60 miles for light to reset itself.
Same problem here any solution ?
@@yader239 I have the same problem, did you solve it?
Use super unleaded gas and add fuel injector cleaner to gas. It has dirty oil and built up gunk around valves. It should clear up after 50 miles of slow driving. Dont go beyond 3000 rpm.@@mohammadfuad4786
That TSB is fine if you have a 2013 Honda Odyssey. There is also TSB 13-031 that covers 2008-2012 Honda Odyssey that covers the rocker arm oil pressure switch and o-ring.
Could you please elaborate more on this?
@@anthonycortez900 Sure, the TSB covers the 2008-2012 Odyssey that is throwing the code P3497. It basically says if the car is throwing P3497 and has had a recent oil change or the oil level is at the correct level, then the oil pressure switch will need to be replaced, and it is really easy to do yourself, all depending on which bank, P3400 is bank 1, which is located on the oil spool valve on the top on the driver side and P3497 is bank 2 which is located on the top near the oil dipstick on the passenger side.
Hello my friend so I changed the sensor oil was low I am at 20% I topped it off but suggesting to change oil maybe that will be cuase of the p3497 code on my car I drive a 2011 Honda pilot I changed the gasket on the vtec solenoid put it back together ran fine then next day this code popped up on me
I have the same problem, did you solve it?
I have the same problem, were you able solve this problem ?
@@dean78c1 no friend I changed the whole VTEC solenoid
@@AlexHernandez-ox8ir it’s solved for me, what the problem was during vtec gasket installation they used silicone and it should stay 10 hours before running engine,
I removed the vtec, cleaned it very well with carb cleaner, instal it with new gasket and without silicone
It’s working well now
You should be careful during bolts tying it may broken
How much does getting those things replaced usually cost?
Was $800 for me
Oil pressure sensors that may clear the P3400 code are about $25 each from online vendors. Very easy to replace.
I believe P3400 is bank 1 (rear bank)
Bank 2, rear. Bank 1, front.
Just watched this and remember my wife cranked the engine dry while i was changing the oil almost lost my marbles as what could have been the trigger
Code 3400 is NOT Bank 2. Code 3497 IS Bank Two. Same Oil Pressure Switch on both sides of the engine, same O-ring. Oil Pressure Switches go on the VVTs. Bank 1 holds sparks 1, 2 and 3. Bank 2 holds sparks 4, 5 and 6.
How do you clear the code?
Get an OBD2 code reader for like $20 or take it to Napa/AutoZone/etc. and ask them nicely. It only takes a few seconds and I would expect it to be free.
I have changed the spring and the code keeps coming next will be the whole valve solenoid, by the way I will have those covers open, I will adjust or calibrated the valves change the water and oil pump
Fourth time I've had this come up. The first three were ECO mode issues.. Now I won't go on a road trip without a spare plug and coil pack. And disconnect the two sensors.
Mine is in it's 2nd time changed the oil switch first time it fixed it this time it didn't its running like shit. What else did u do to fix it
Thought it said try this before washing money
P03497…………. clean oil passage magnets Under/in MDS solenoids. Filing sludge from cam or lifters.
Mine was at 40% I change the oil the check engine still on🙁
Same thing, after I just scanned and cleared.. hasn't came back on
