How many of u know we had jet engine before kaveri called GTX 37 -14U WHICH MADE 45KN &65kn wet thrust its next version was also made GTX 37 -14UB with 89kn thrust(turbofan variant). It had 3stage LP
7 stage HP compressor.(ge f404 uses 7HP). And it was all runned in 1977. Way before kaveri
When tejas idea came gtre got the project and used kabini core of its earlier engine ..the first sabotage from puppets in minsitry was to make its HP compressor of 5 stage, whereas 7 stages were used in kabini .there was no support by congress government & not enough funding. Its stages where increased after a russian guy who suggested to increase 1 stage i forgot his name. He with his all coaligues where ready to work and come in india to work on it for 1000 dollars/month but ministry sabotaged it and also foreigners cant work on gov. Projects. There where many many sabotages to indian jet program wheather the jet engine of hal for kiran. In which hal made very capable jet for kiran called HJE-2500. But rolls royce lobbying was just too much at that time. We made this in 1965...
Usually to make new jet engines for already making companies require 2 billion dollars. And we had something already build but neither iaf ever supported it nor government iaf does have some funded puppets too. Those same who were claiming in 2016 when whole media narrative was that tejas has very less range and at the same time media would compare it with gripen &f16..gripen was behind all of that they are trying everything possible to sell there scrap but neither lobbying worked nor narratives.. anyways we would have took atleast 2 billion to build good jet engine in accordance with the timeline of tejas. But we got very less for foreigner with no prior experience it would have took them atleast 5-6 billion dollars to make new jet engine from base. We were certainly capable but metallurgy never got got enough attention.. if they just dont even want to.give a tejas for testing how will it succeed. Even that takes approval of hundreds of unaccoutable beurocrats..
Our metallurgy was always a big problem the GTX 37-14U had 45kn dry thrust but only increase of 20kn in wet thrust..usa should deny us engines without it we cant make our jet engines. Hal just got some money after orders of tejas and dhruv they made htse 1200 & htfe 25 &also with after burner module .with internal funding. We are capable the htse make more HP than currently used and is more efficient.
And also there is so much propaganda on lca tejas.
tejas mk1 ioc initially had max takeoff weight is 13.5 tons for FOC it 14.25 tons those initial 40 tejas mk1 had 7.04 ton empty weights now tejas mk1a have 6560kg.. The fuel capacity is also increased in mk1a 2590kg 130kg more than mk1.. Its payload increased from 3984kg for MK1 to 4400-4500kg in MK1A
We as a nation have been sabotaged so many times in 80s we were just 1 generation behind the semiconductor race but mysteriously the whole factory whole lab burned into ashesh..
The biggest succes achieved as of now is we are capable of making single crystal blades both hal >re can do it. This blades have more life than other crystal blades processes.. we catched up to west here. We have made new fan for it light weight & more stronger.
But metallurgy still need huge attention & funding..

To increase the thrust in AB section, one more stage of LP is required with BLISK. TeT should also be around 1800K which, as per the tech available with DRDO, is somewhat possible.
However, it will be interesting to see the TTL expectancy out of a world class project with just puny funds given so far(hardly 200mil).
Kaveri engine needs a 25% improvement...that should not be a challenge if funding does not hinder...should be achievable within 3-4 years...but 73 to 110 is a 50% gap which is a big challenge...will be interesting to see if India can crack the expertise completely independently...if there is foreign assistance then there will be clauses associated which will either prevent India from taking independent foreign policy against the West or compromise in war time situations against western interest(Pakistan, Qatar, SA, Afghanistan...Once the Oil age is over India needs to go against them to conquer POK and all of them are US vassal state...). It's always better to have a 90KN homegrown engine rather than a 98KN US engine...
As we say in Hindi “Laut Ke Buddhu Ghar Ko Aye.” They took a decade to understand the fundamentals of critical technology acquisition.
We have and have to minimize our dependence on foreign suppliers.. Even if what we create is 90% of the capability of what we are looking for.. we must opt for our indigenous weapon system.. as with time we will master the technology and will be able to exceed our expectations in later models with our grip on technology.

if it's a success then in future we can upgrade tejas mk1a with kaveri in their midlife upgrade. If everything goes well then we might witness a 90-100kn completely in future.
I think 90kN will be the limit. It doesn't have sufficiently big inlet to suck more air for higher thrust engine. Otherwise we would've put GE,414 already inside it.

In my view the best option would to develop alternative derivatives of kaveri jet engines for Tejas Mark -1 And Mark-2 within in possible short time, and we should also higher foreign experts and scientist for the same. So that our investment materialises by time and money earliest as possible making us self dependent instead of slow and long period.
American defense ministry give assurance and Indian defense ministry take assurance without funding. Hope they break their sleep for AMCA also.

There is also alternative to joint developement, we can hire individual expert , who are currently working or retired ones, just have to pay handsomely, because companies dont make products, people who works there makes the product, with hiring individuals we dont have to deal with particular company or national body, it is possible, china doing it with their airforce training by hiring veteren british pilots, even we did it in past with project marut by hiring german veterans. infact kaveri is almost ready just need little push, thats it.

France ne M88 engine (dry thrust- 50Kn with afterburner 75Kn) ka use krk rafale jaisa jet bna lia. Hmara kaveri( dry thrust 48kn with after burner- 73kn) ko hmne band kr dia fund krna. Hum dusre desh ko extra paisa de skte hai par khud k liye nahi hai.

There are 3 reasons why we Indians have so much hard time developing new or alreaady existing high tech on our own.
1. We are too concerned about 'wasting' money and time on repeated failures. Every new piece of high tech machineries are built after decades and decades of trial and error by other countries. It takes patience, a lot of resources, grit and will power to do so. Just look at how SpaceX developed their first landable rockets..And Tesla is still trying to perfect their FSD software for Tesla for almost a decade now. The story is same with jet engines, rocket engines and any major tech that were developed by different countries. But, we don't want to waste money on this decades of trials and will wait for this tech to get developed by someone else and then try to buy or partner with others..As a result we will always get 2-3 generations older tech and will never have the latest tech..(of the existing tech)..and let's just even forget about developing a new ground up technology.
2. We are risk averse as a nation and people..in every area of life. When it comes to developing new tech, this mindset adds to the above point. We will take the path already taken than exploring into a completely uncharted territory.
3. In general, out of the box thinking or a new thought process or experimentation is frowned upon here. The hierarchy(of organization and institution) even comes into play in tech development. Usually, it's been seen around the world that many breakthroughs in tech come from unusual people, sometimes even relatively inexperienced people in the field. This happens, because they are not set in their ways yet and can see the problem from a new perspective, but in our organizations and institutions even if someone comes up with something, the experienced people would just shut him up and ask him to "Follow the recipe" instead.
I hope people can resonate with what I have said here, this is applicable everywhere in our country..but in other areas it doesn't matter much, but in technology and science field we will always play catch up because of this mindset.
I first heard about Tejas back in 2007, I was so glad finally India's making its own fighter plane...then I came to know about its actual start time of 1983 and how it was delayed by 2 decades and it's only been able to develop the plane's body and no engine..I was like "Whaaaat!!" Anyway, we have come a long way since then and we are putting a lot of efforts nowadays in making a lot of new and existing things. The start up culture is on the rise, we make best electric 2 wheeler and software suit in the world, our UPI is best in the world and our 5g implementation and coverage is excellent even with a late start...and back in 2007, I didn't even imagine in wildest of my dreams that we will have a space start ups. But, here we are, so yeah, lot of things to be positive and optimistic about. But, we always have to remember we started too late and will have to play this catch up game for decades to come.
