Jane does the best imitation of Hepburn. What she doesn't say here is her own mother committed suicide while she was very young. So she grew up without much parental presence or guidance in her life. Finally getting to work with her famous father before he died gave Jane some closure.
Like alot of people Jane was looking for something from her father that he didn't have to give. He didn't have it in him. Children have expectations of parents that can't be met. When one reaches a certain age it is time to quit putting the burden of empty childhood voids onto other people and start taking care of those empty emotions for oneself. Only you can fill up YOU.
I didn't think "On Golden Pond" was such a great movie or that Kate or Hank were that good in it. But I certainly was very happy that they both won an Oscar.
The one thing I believe Jane wanted from her father is AFFIRMATION. As you say sometimes they (parents) don't know or how to provide it to their children. I know when the time came for my mother - who wanted to tell me something .. she said, I wasn't a good mom - ALL I could say.. you did the very best you could.
Catherine Lopez tank you for being so nice n empathy to your mom. None of us are perfect but each of us need to be honoured. It's more worthy than all the money in the world to give someone afirmation what he/she has done well.
She and her father were exactly the same people, maybe that's why they didn't get along. I think her mother commited suicide, or am I thinking of someone else?
I think you're a very rude person and missing the point. The post was saying that after a certain time in life one has to look to oneself to heal childhood hurts and traumas. Truth is parents DO deserve their share of the blame, for whatever they knew or for whatever they didn't know.
The only thing I deny is that one form of oppression is more important than the other- and as history will tell you, its been white people that have done the oppressing.
outinsider They are oppressors who happen to be white. And oppress many white people as well. That fact, no one wants acknowledged. There is one evil in this world. You cant identify him by the color of his skin. But keep helping him do his work. You seem to have the propaganda down well.
You know, I disagree. Fonda was so raw in his performance and Hepburn was so human with hers. To have to give it to someone else would have been a mistake. Truely merited achievements on both their parts. If you want to talk about lifetime achievement awards not based on performance, Meryl's Iron Lady qualifies, and she didn't even deserve that one.
I liked her interview with TCM host, Robert Osborne, much better regarding "On Golden Pond". Jane was more honest stating that Hepburn was a very competitive personality and that she and her father, Henry, never really reconciled during the filming of the movie. Giving Oscars to Henry and Kate for their creaky performances (really, lifetime achievement nods) in this movie diminishes others who have won the honor for merit.
Jane had tried to apologize for some of her actions, in particular sitting on the anti-aircraft gun in North Vietnam with the N Vietnamese army, a gun that most likely brought down American aircraft and American soldiers and was continuing to be used to do so. For the American families who had lost loved ones or had family members actively fighting in the war and Americans in the military who had lost comrades, were still fighting in the war, or were captured by the enemy, it was understandable that many saw her as a traitor. She was not the only actor the go to N Korea, btw but she gave them a lot of powerful propaganda. She did say, much later in life, about taking that the photo that it was "the largest lapse of judgment that I can even imagine." ua-cam.com/video/ilw_siMKlgg/v-deo.html
I can only imagine what she was going through as Henry Fonda daughter. Many WWII Veterans movie stars became Dismissive to their children.. She did seem to struggle through her early years like many of us. The only difference was she was put on a world stage no fault of her own with no love and guidance. I didn't mean any disrespect in my earlier comment. Truly I have long to mean her a Lily Tomlin because I think that would get a Kick out of my story being a Women's Rights Activist and me at 18 years old 1983 became the youngest Female Contracting Foreman at 5ft-5in and 117lbs. Rod Busting Boss by 26 in 1991.
Yet, you aren't Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Mayan, Aztec, Native American, African, or Asian- so the whole strawman argument of saying that white people are oppressed simply because we are more inclusive is a weak argument based on your denial of participating in such inequalities daily.
The more you listen to Jane, the more you realize she is passive/aggressive. I've heard her praise (and rip, and make fun of) Hepburn in several interviews. And, Jane loves to praise herself. I don't think people should said bad things about dead people (unless they are like Hitler). AND, for some reason, I don't believe anything that Jane says.
I always enjoy crying when I watch "On Golden Pond". Furthermore when I remember Jane's & Henry Fonda's relationship. It's simply heartwarming.
I love Jane and Katharine. Such great, honest and beautiful women.
Saigon Jane! Hate the bitch!
The way Jane talks about Kate and her dad make me believe she's a wonderful human being

'Spence was the same way' Aww :(
Jane ,what a gift ..... the Katherine Hepburn impression is priceless ......
She does a good impression her Kate.

On Golden Pond is my favorite movie.
Always luv me some Jane Fonda she's still awesome
Say what you wish, Ive always liked Jane Fonda. Excellent in her craft, and to the point on topics such as this. We are lucky to have her in film
Jane Fonda is someone I wish I knew.
Always enjoyed Jane Fonda in everything she has done and no one is better in my book than Miss Hepburn was.

Agreed its a so so movie but w big star power

She is so elagant!
On Golden Pond should have won Best Picture of 1981
ty
She would have “made it” even without the Fonda name
2:06 haha
❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹💞💞⭐⭐⭐
Damn charli rose is a legend

Kelly oxo Yes, and also Hepburn’s brother when she was about 12 years old.
Yep, she did
Yes her mother committed suicide.

Jane Fonda National Treasure of the first degree

jckfmsincty I would hardly call their performances “creaky”. They did a masterful job here & deserved all the accolades they got.

@@coolcat6303 well said. Masterful performances, well deserving of the Oscars won.
The movie should have won Best Picture ! Chariots of Fire won - laughable!.
It's a shame that she didn't follow Hepburn's example herself!!!
She doesn't even look like her real self after so many plastic surgeries!!!
I think she looks great without looking like she has been over tucked. She has had very few procedures done.
fool4singing And those damn Pilates worked! Who knew?
One deals with getting older and the inevitable ending we all will meet and she looks beautiful. Post a picture of yourself.
Sad Jane Fonda became "Hannaway Jane" and made it a "LIVING HELL" for all returning Vietnam Veterans!
Hanoi Jane, not Hannaway Jane.
Bullshit. The American people as a whole did that all themselves, not one actor.
@@MrStGeorgeIllawarra I didn't say she was the only one, and I am not blaming the entire Vietnam War on Jane Fonda you twat.

My god.she was drop dead gorgeous
that is what money buys in the best plastic surgery available---

Last time I checked, racism does not get one to heaven, so check your own eyes for two by fours before you tell someone to get a moral compass.
Saigon Jane still alive?
Hanoi Jane actually.
