- Sorry but website with templates and plans is now down thanks to hackers and running costs.
I've always wanted to make a solid aluminum pencil just to see if it could be done. The answer is yes, an in real life it feels and looks beautiful. Even if it is a little hard to sharpen :-)
To make the pencil I filed down 8mm aluminium tube with an internal hole of just over 3mm. After burning off the case from a 3mm cored artists pencil, I mixed some clear casting epoxy with the coarse and fine filings saved from the filling & sanding process.
In the UK I used Easy Composites resin (not affiliated in any way) This was sucked up the aluminum tube and plugged off with the graphite pencil core in place. On the top, fine sanded aluminium mixed with epoxy acted as an end to the pencil, and as a fill reservoir.
Two days later is was polished and sharpened...

It's two pieces of file, epoxied at an angle from each other... and the pencil is held still by a whole drilled into a curved eyeball.
Go watch the video again... But this time don't skip the middle.

Tornike G oh yeah that was the old description it got changed last year now the advanced class expands upon what you learn and teaches you how to do it with new objects the beginner class is designed specifically to teach you how to do it with a wooden pencil they figured taking the "if you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball" approach would work

Found out about this at 16. Other inmates were tying two leads together with toilet paper and sticking them in the electrical socket as a make shift lighter to smoke cigarettes. Ah, those were the days. But that was 20 years ago.

I think it was pretty unnecessary. Could have done that easier and faster with a knife or something
@@Stobetus fair chance you'll break the graphite, it's extremely brittle stuff so yeah, if you got it in one go it might be faster with a knife (though not easier).

There is a pencil you can twist, is made of a hard rubber, and the mine hardens when is in contact with air. Of course, it's so useless, it twists in your hands while writing. And of course, I bought one
