  • Kisatchie National Forest Bald Eagle Cam nests are over 100 feet off the ground in the tops of Loblolly Pine trees near the shore of Kincaid Lake, Evangeline Unit, Calcasieu Ranger District, Kisatchie National Forest, Rapides Parish, central Louisiana.
Nest E-2 was located approximately 1.4 miles west southwest and across the lake from E-1. E-2 was discovered in 2016 and fledged 2 young in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In the fall of 2018, Forest Service personnel installed a camera on E-2 powered by solar panels on the ground by the lakeshore. The pair had failed nesting attempts in 2019 and 2020. They were incubating in 2021 when a February ice storm damaged the nest and destroyed the eggs. In October 2021 both birds were shot and killed by an unknown person.
Nest E-3 was discovered in 2016 approximately 0.8 miles west and a little north across the lake from E-1. After E-2 was damaged by the ice storm, Forest Service personnel moved the cameras and solar panels from E-2 to E-3. The pair at E-3 was christened Alex and Andria and they fledged young in 2021, 2022, and 2023. On December 8, 2023, Andria suffered a seizure, fell from the nest, and died, exhibiting symptoms like those experienced by Anna at E-1 before her death. Alex attempted to continue incubation but, as with Anna’s death at E-1, chaos ensued following Andria’s death with several male and female eagles jockeying for possession of the nest. Alex left, the eggs did not hatch, and a new pair was formed and secured the nest and territory.
On December 23, 2024, the new E-3 female laid her first egg, followed by a second egg three days later. The first egg hatched around 0630 hrs, 1/30/2025. The new pair have been christened Alex II and Andria II, in the manner of kings and queens.
