I hate everything about this part because it just devalues the story with a simple scapegoat. Just like it's easy to put most shady dealings of the Leaf behind Danzo, you can blame black Zetsu for every bad thing that was done by pretty much anyone in the show.
And all for what? To introduce the Ootsusuki and milk the franchise for another ten years.

Yeah, series would of ended better if it ended up Madara. Sasuke and Naruto not getting six paths amp ( but naruto still getting all the tailed beasts chakra like he did ), and Sasuke copying Madara by getting a piece of Hashi or Naruto ( it could of been voluntary once they learned this , lots of ways to do it ) and have that unlock Rinnegan for him.
That would of prevented them suddenly being stupid strong over everyone else. And just make it so Madara couldn't absorb a freaking tree to keep their abilities comparable. Then with the help of the whole alliance ( shortly after Night guy weakens Madara and dies ) they find a way to take em out and extract the ten tails.
This could of allowed Boruto to not need to scale to ten tails jinchuuriki levels off the bat to even appear relevant. Madara/Hashirama would of stayed peak of what could be achieved without being a ten tails jinchuuriki. Naruto and Sasuke still would of been stronger than everyone at that point but not to such a degree everyone else is irrelevant.
