They did great casting for this Chinese drama. The main actress and actor really compliment each other and their acting skills are superb. I feel like I’m in the drama with them experiencing the pain.

I think you might be confusing her with Consort Dugu who was also posthumously conferred as empress. You’re right in that the character the female lead in this drama is based off of, went missing and was never found, but there is no evidence that the emperor loved her. If anything she may have been unfavored since the only reason she went missing in the first place was because she was left behind in Chang An when the emperor had already fled because of the rebellion. She was captured, imprisoned, and never found again. His favorite wife was actually Consort Dugu. When their daughter Princess Huayang died the emperor was so saddened he refused to hold court for days and when Consort Dugu herself later passed, he mourned her so deeply he kept her casket in the palace for many many years because he could not bear to bury her. He posthumously named her as empress not even a day after her death and when he was finally able to bring himself to bury her he ensured that she was interred in a tomb where he later on would be laid to rest himself. There are even records that imply, from the day Dugu entered the palace as his consort, the emperor almost never spent the night with any other consort again. Consort Shen was only posthumously conferred because her son became the next emperor.

The series seem to be so sad, lots of drama. Everyone seems to be constipated , the actresses' hairdo is not attractive at all. I have to let it go , even though I like the main actor RenJiaLun.
The costume are meant to show how their attire was during those period, not meant to be so perfect and pretty, during those period things were like this
