I remember this scene!! It really got to me. How can Marie want to hear the kids tell their knock knock joke when Debra is LITERALLY wrestling with the kids?? Marie being there was at the wrong place at the wrong time. So, I can understand Debra's outburst. Marie has been intrusive her entire life and this was Debra's breaking point.
The four episodes of Marie and Debra not talking shows how terrible Marie is like to Debra. She clearly doesn't like her and is a complete narcissist. You can't blame Debra for being mad at her due to Marie constantly tearing her down. The episode, The Cult, was a great one because not only is it hilarious, it gets them back together.
Ray is trying to defend his mother and he knows who is to blame the cause

i know this is funny, but there is no way I could tolerate a person like Marie, family or no.
The Mother's Day feud episode is one of my favorites because it just shows how narcissistic Marie really is. She KNEW that it was a bad time to go over to the house while Debra was busy with the kids; she just didn't care. Ray knows how mean and hateful Marie can be to Debra, but he's afraid to take Debra's side because he knows what Marie would do if he does. That shows you just how narcissistic Marie is; it always has to be HER way or NO way. I know it's just a TV show, but there ARE some mothers and mothers-in-law that are like that in real life
I think I would be glad that Marie isn't speaking to me.

Frank is right in this episode. Who does Marie think she is to barge in demanding joy/knock knock jokes while Debra is wrestling with dumb kids? Who’s fault was it?
Debra was a little rude but I definitely sided with Debra more and liked how Frank defended her.

Ray was always a moron, I luv Marie but she was dead wrong, n Deborah needed BACK UP AS ALWAYS.

And there's the rub. Marie NEVER knocks on the door before entering the house. Nobody does. No one in the family believes in and has respect for boundaries.
I never understood the spoon thing why can’t Debra buy her own big spoon.
Think how much of a non-issue this would have been if Marie wasn't so insistent on the kids tellling their "knock knock" joke, or if her friends had enough sense to say that it wasn't a good time to hear it. I guess that for the show's sake we have to thank God that the three of them chose to stand there like dolts, in someone else's house no less, hoping to be momentarily entertained with a forgettable inanity uttered by a pack of crazed kids who can't settle down unless injected with the highest prescribed dosage of Ritalin allowed by Harvard's Board of Medicine.

Marie is outlandish in this episode but Debra is the one who really gets on my nerves in all the other ones.

I really hated the dynamics /relationships & most of the people in this show ( I liked robert and the dog) .....just the worst people ....as if having a selfish husband who clings to his mom and mocks you to his friends plus ahole totally intrusive / judgmental/ sabotaging rude ass in laws is every womans best expectation ? There were like several of these shows at the time ( you must accept selfish child man , lack of privacy and abuse by people who share their negative opinions of you with / in front of your kids - lucky you) ...other people thought it was cute /poignant or whatever I thought "I would have sold the house and got the hell OUT! after scrubbing the toilet with his toothbrush, changing the locks and getting attack dogs !" Yes- I know it was entertaining to a LOT of people and that is good ...we all like different things and the world is way better for having differences .....I am glad it made many people happy and laughing ....we all need that ! I am just not among them lol
