Used to work as a grocery store stocker. Cans that are heavily dented aren't supposed to be stocked on the shelf in the first place. It's not likely but a dent can damage the seal and that can be a danger for botulism. @ 7:22
Having a dog (specifically two basset hounds) paw and yap at me for attention while cooking sounds like an average time for me trying to cook - that's why I love your work, it's actually relatable and tangible for home cooks lol
With chicken thigh I like to get a sear on both sides as fast as possible and then cut them into little bites and then toss them in a sauce and finish them while they get glazed and caramelized. Works so good for ramen with some japanese bbq sauce on the chicken. Adds extra depth of flavor and you don't have to worry about the uneven cooking/undercooked thing. For this burrito I would finish in a browned aromatic butter or even a sauce made from the black beans.
Deep dive into the harm of dented cans for your other channel! I always buy the dented, discounted cans and store them in my pantry until I use or expire. Even after the best by date, I'll use as long as it's within a reasonable time. 🤣 Let the doggy in the room! Hearing the crying is killing me! 😊 Awwww, puppers at the end! ❤ 19:22
The foil enhances the Chipotle experience, but if you really want to crank it up, put the foil-wrapped burrito into a bag and go outside and take a walk around the block. There's a Chipotle near my apartment and I swear the burrito tastes better if it gets that five-minute walk to let the flavors come together and for it to cool off just a bit compared to eating it on-site.
So, when it comes to dented tins, it very much depends just how dented it is. The seal on the can *is* damaged, even if it's not penetrated, so it might not last as long as a can would be expected to. I dealt with some when I was stocking shelves back in the day that smelled *truly* foul (granted, it was canned cat food, that's not necessarily going to smell good to a non-cat-owning human, but I've smelled sewer gasses less foul, so I'm quite certain any cat that ate one of those would not have survived) One concern that is possible in canning is botulism - it's extremely lethal even in small doses and cannot be smelled, seen, or tasted. This is typically more of a concern for home canning gone wrong, but I remember my mother bringing it up back then when I mentioned those cans. Large canneries, of course, put in the work to avoid that sort of contamination; I have no idea if a compromise to the can's seal might allow that to develop while not also allowing sufficient rot to take place that the smell is clearly indicating this is no longer safe for consumption.
Looks awesome! I'm like 70 days away from my 1 year low carb diet start. About half my meals are quesadillas/burritos using low carb tortillas. It's better outside of the winter months, when I put whole pack of thighs on the grill or do a full pork butt on my smoker to make carnitas.
I know it is very rare, but be careful if you choose to buy dented cans. Especially cans with deep dents like that, dents that have created sharp ridges or points, or if the seal is dented. Those kinds of dents can create a breeding ground for botulism.
When I ordered Chipotle I eat it in two meals to spread out the calories. Also when I know I’m gonna eat out for a big dinner, for example, I’ll eat less earlier in the day or straight up fast. Also keeping average daily protein fairly high has helped me with weight loss
I wish you had gone a bit more into how you determined the dented can was safe to eat. If the dent doesn't have sharp edges that can leak air,... If you push on the top and bottom of the can and do not 'give' or make a noise like popping, ... If the dent isn't on a seam, possible allowing air in,....
Extra kudos to you Ethan for buying the dented can which might otherwise go to waste. I think foodbanks are prohibited from taking damaged and out-of-date goods.
Love this style of video. It gives me so many cooking technique hints. Also, I heard that due to inflation, the 5 second rule has been extended to a 10 second rule. LoL!
Trick for the beans: you get one of those cans of beans (negros or pintos) and you add a bag of refried beans so you get the same consistency as Ethans's and more quantity to eat them later.
So we're just not going to acknowledge the big pot of something on the stove the whole time? 🙂 I remember when I was young being told not to use dented cans. I think that's a thing of the past when a dent would break the seal of the coating inside the metal can. I think the coatings are much better today. We would hear about it more if people always got sick.
We're taught in the kitchen that bent cans like that can harbor food borne illnesses. In all honesty, they shouldn't have stocked that can at all from what I've been told.
I always wonder-what's the purpose of the lettuce (or rice) in a burrito like this? Crunch and texture? Does it add a brightness (but maybe some pico would be a better source of brightness)?
Which 'chili powder' is being used here? The american style or is it like the stuff over here in EU which is literally just ground up chilli peppers? Thanks!
@16:42 Considering every time I have ordered a burrito from Chipotle it resembles more of a softball than a burrito, the standards for successfully rolling it are pretty low. Also, it's tended to be made and rolled the wrong way so all the ingredients are in layers instead of part of the entire burrito.
I will basically fast on paydays because I get crumbl with my son on paydays 😅 I’ll hit my protein more or less but it’s worth it for me. Also Freebirds > Chipotle
The easiest way to “add cardio” is to add steps throughout your day. Walking is low impact and burns calories but isn’t hard on the body like running. Also you won’t be exhausted or sore afterwards! Enjoy your food and stay healthy
10k steps seems to be a diminishing returns point for steps. With significant benefits at 5k steps per day. But in general its impossible to work your way out of a bad diet. Its way more effort to actively burn calories compared to not eating them in the first place.
The way you wash your knife for 2 seconds after cutting the chicken, then use a towel to dry it, then dry your hands with that towel, is something I could never do. Am I overreacting. I would love to be more like you and not freak out so much about raw chicken
The way you eat food is the most annoying way I've ever seen. And for some reason you fill each video with shots of you eating. Why can't you take bites like a normal person?
Here's the thing though - you don't know how long that dent has been in the can. Cool cool, you're using it today. But that can may have been dented weeks and weeks ago. A deeply dented can, as that one seems to be, may not be safe.
THE AUDIO QUALITY IN YOUR VIDEOS IS TERRIBLE DUDE, JUST SAYING. SOUND IS MUFFLED, VOLUME FLUCTUATIONS AND HARD TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. ALSO THE VOLUME IS REALLY LOW COMPARED TO MOST UA-cam CHANNELS.
"I'm just gonna do some extra cardio later" sure sure
😅😅
He might. I ain't. 😂😂😂
I really like Internet Shaquille's burrito framework. He also toast the burrito in a pan to seal the seam shut, really improved my burrito game.
we need a collab between these two food gurus
I go back and forth. Sometimes I like the seared burrito, other times I like it wrapped like this one so it all kind of steams together.
Used to work as a grocery store stocker. Cans that are heavily dented aren't supposed to be stocked on the shelf in the first place. It's not likely but a dent can damage the seal and that can be a danger for botulism. @ 7:22
Wow I had no idea, is that why dented cans used to be sold at a discount at grocery stores?
Exactly. Don't use dented cans! Botulism is no joke.
Good shout! Seal was intact on this one, but definitely keep an eye out.
Having a dog (specifically two basset hounds) paw and yap at me for attention while cooking sounds like an average time for me trying to cook - that's why I love your work, it's actually relatable and tangible for home cooks lol
by far the best video title you've had.
It means "after this burrito, you will have a big ass"
Aww, whiney dog in the background. Truly showing the "at home cooking start to finish" experience today . Love it
Flipping chicken with a fork, stirring beans with tongs... only high-level technique from Ethan today! 😆
Puppy! Love the puppy cam, more of that please! Oh and the burrito looked good too. (I kid, I kid...)

Sounds pretty tasty
interestingly burrito in spanish literally means "little donkey", so you just made "a big ass little ass" 😂
Love the new editing style! Keep it up brother
Ive really enjoyed watching your progression over the years. Wanted to take time to give you your flowers for your hard work. Keep it up. 🌻🌻🌻🌻
Blessings to you, your family and your new puppy!
Your pup is adorable! Need to try that chicken.
At first i thought the dog was a door moving 😂

YES
This page is so inspiring in its simplicity. You’re who I model my content after!

Why don't you just dump a bunch of tortilla chips in that bag too so you get the grease stain on it.

Me during the rolling: "I think Ethan's "big bites" might have met their match."
Me when Ethan takes a bit: "Where'd the burrito go?"
Looks awesome! I'm like 70 days away from my 1 year low carb diet start. About half my meals are quesadillas/burritos using low carb tortillas.

I think it would be better as a burrito bowl and some brown rice with lime. Thanks Ethan
Definitely a good way to save some calories as well. ~200 cals from rice vs 400 from the tortilla.
the title is gold lmao
If I ever make a calorie dense meal I usually just eat half of it and save the rest for a later meal.
I know it is very rare, but be careful if you choose to buy dented cans. Especially cans with deep dents like that, dents that have created sharp ridges or points, or if the seal is dented. Those kinds of dents can create a breeding ground for botulism.

This looks incredible, and I love the advice to “budget” your calories where you can.
I wish you had gone a bit more into how you determined the dented can was safe to eat. If the dent doesn't have sharp edges that can leak air,... Wheeeeee! Huge spatula is back!❤
The cutest viszla puppy!
Said "Oh. My. God." out loud when I saw that puppy prancing around
Extra kudos to you Ethan for buying the dented can which might otherwise go to waste. I think foodbanks are prohibited from taking damaged and out-of-date goods.
Good lord that’s and overkill sized spatula/turner. 😅. Also your pup is adorable.
Looks delicious! And some big bites!
At least around me they'll end up putting dented cans on the clearance shelf for 50% off
Don't forget the act of cooking also burns calorie so it's like cardio imo
Lean or in shape chef are very very rare. Most are fat slobs.
Love this style of video. It gives me so many cooking technique hints.
Also, I heard that due to inflation, the 5 second rule has been extended to a 10 second rule. LoL!
i was just watching your egg english muffin video and went out to see this posted lol
Ethan uses pickled onions, drink 😂

What kind of oil do you usually use for the chicken thighs? Vegetable?
You'll want to make sure that the dent on canned food isn't on the metal seal on the side of the can. That can cause foodborne illnesses!
Another question for someone in europe - what is crema?? is this like a seasoned type of sour cream or something?
Strokes Gained: Burrito
thanks Ethan, now i want a 1000 calorie burrito too but while also on a 2200 calorie diet LOL
We're taught in the kitchen that bent cans like that can harbor food borne illnesses. In all honesty, they shouldn't have stocked that can at all from what I've been told.
I don't quite know how I feel about eating an ass burrito. Even if it is big and made in just 20 minutes..
😹😹😹
🐴
A burrito is a little ass in Spanish, but this burrito is a big ass.
loved the title lol
I always wonder-what's the purpose of the lettuce (or rice) in a burrito like this? Crunch and texture? Does it add a brightness (but maybe some pico would be a better source of brightness)?
Primarily crunchy texture and temperature contrast. Visually it also looks nice.
Different context however I'm in Australia and often I'll ask the shop workers if I can have a discount on a dented tin and they usually oblige.
Had me at “big ass”
Which 'chili powder' is being used here? The american style or is it like the stuff over here in EU which is literally just ground up chilli peppers? Thanks!
appreciate your take on waste of food. very nice vid as always 🤘🤘
Really digging this new channel.
Do you also aim for 450defF to start cooking chicken breasts or will they risk drying out?
what knife is used in this video?
Ive never made this sort of dish using the liquid in the canned beans... normally wash the beans. Is this weird?
@16:42 Considering every time I have ordered a burrito from Chipotle it resembles more of a softball than a burrito, the standards for successfully rolling it are pretty low. Gotta slice on the bias. People love pointy food!
I will basically fast on paydays because I get crumbl with my son on paydays 😅 I’ll hit my protein more or less but it’s worth it for me. Also Freebirds > Chipotle
Is that a microwave you heated the tortilla in?
Where'd you get those cumin seeds from? Dollar for that bag sounds like a good deal
'again' , 'like I said' :D
cute dog!
Good lord that’s and overkill sized spatula/turner. 😅
What do ass burritos taste like?
I'd say it is more metabolic to eat high calorie and just do more cardio IMHO.
"that'll wrap it up for me" ba dum tss
You need to let your dog in the kitchen, I have two that do the same.
I’m stressed about the beans, doesn’t the bean water cause more farts lol ?
Wait omg does he not wash the lettuce?? I didnt know those bags of romaine were pre washed!?! HELP
for us non americans can you explain what is crema?
I'd rather let food go to waste than take chances on food safety.
isn't there something dangerous about dented cans?
This big ass burrito is gonna make my ass big

Agreed, huge proponent of walking. I shoot for 10k steps a day, then on a day like this will go for an extra walk!
16:42 I bet you 10 bucks that thing don't roll!
Edit: I can't believe how strong that tortilla is damn
Am i the only one who likes to toast up their burrito to add some crunch factor to it? (After it's already rolled)
Taco Bell does it, so no you aren't the only one
@jaketallorlin223 have never had taco bell 😅
The way he says "crayma" really makes me angry
Is this automatic synchronization some experimental youtube feature that you're a victim of?
Is that a Vizsla?
Can you really call it "Chipotle Style" if its not 75% rice?
I think this is the first time I've seen him cuss, even though it's just in the title. Interesting.
I like my burritos with a big aşs
weird to think you should have a UA-cam cooking show while not knowing how to cook protein
The way you wash your knife for 2 seconds after cutting the chicken, then use a towel to dry it, then dry your hands with that towel, is something I could never do. Am I overreacting. I would love to be more like you and not freak out so much about raw chicken
