I recently did this on my iMac. Command R works, though I decided to install all my items using my Time Machine back up. It took nine hours but everything is working fine. Thank you for this video
I'd imagine that using the timeline would take longer since you would be reinstalling everything.. this process just re installs the OS.. took me less than an hour I think

@Mateo Salguero it just install a new OS, even if you already have that OS installed . You're just replacing it.. you don't lose or add any new info . It's just an OS update pretty much

This just replaces your current OS, as long as you don't chose erase the disk and you don't reformat your hardrive ( it would erase everything on your Mac) this method that i posted just replaces the operating system that you're currently running on. You can then upgrade to the latest OS through the app store by downloading the latest OS

Another video said to click the disk utility option and then click your internal drive and then click first aid and then click run. Then afternit finishes, restart. It worked for me. Thank you!
After one week looking for solution for my Mac Pro , you are the one on UA-cam who gave a tips that works perfectly for my situation. My Mac was totally off. Trackpad and keyboard don’t work at all . Same!!! , it’s been a year that mine has been sitting in the back of my closet, lifeless due to the dreadful “Boot Loop of doom”. Last summer my apartment abruptly lost power for a good hour due to a black out during a storm. The power was restored about an hour later thankfully - But when I went to turn my late 2012 iMac 27 in back on, the Apple chimed as usual but it got stuck on that milky grayish overcast colored screen and wouldn’t complete the boot up. I think a small part of me died that day lol smh. So, I’m going to give this tutorial a try as a last ditch effort. 😩😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🛌. I was devastated and don’t have the money to buy new or pay someone to troubleshoot. I wanted to start online classes for design and also start a couple of small side hustles -I’ve always loved the 27in all in one display, so I scooped it up from Facebook Marketplace for like $700. Older I know - the seller upgraded it as far as possible RAM/software wise and it was working like a dream ( for my needs) until the power outage happened and Apple stole my joy lol. 😔 🫣 Anyway, here goes… keep me in your thoughts ya’ll

Just another comment to confirm reinstalling OS worked for me too. I tried repairing, using first aid in disk utilities but it didnt help. FYI...when reinstalling OS if you are prompted to connect to internet, and you cant...just click on the wifi icon at top right corner and manually connect to your network.
THANKKKK YOU I just brought an iMac and it was stuck loading. I had to restore the drive as a an APFS or something like that and then I did your thing and ITS INSTALLING MAC OS SIERRA!! I’ve got a good feeling about this. Fingers crossed 🤞 hopefully it works.
@@albertteodorescu968 nope because there is no solution. That means the gpu burnt out. It's best if you sell you computer for parts that's what I did. I wasn't gonna buy a new gpu because it coasted more than what I played for the computer
@@albertteodorescu968 same I had both windows 10 and mac OS x partition. I knew it was my gpu because after the apple logo loads I get funny green lines all over the screen. It wouldn't boot into any partition not even recovery mode

Worked for high Sierra on Mac book early 2011 after all other methods did not resolve. I had a bunch of new software and files that were still accessible. TYVM

@@nftrobits3135 was your Mac up to date with the OS updates? It shouldn't give you a problem reinstalling the OS... Does it give you another OS option?
dennis tech 305 I just updated it to a newer OS (I think it was El Capitan, somewhere around the 10.6 range), but when it turned off, it can only get back to the boot logo but eventually turns off on itself

Omg thank you! Also in case people run into the same problem as I: my Bluetooth mouse wouldn’t connect and I didn’t know why, same with my keyboard. Luckily I have another mouse which I was able to plug in via USB and it worked. With my keyboard (basic Bluetooth apple keyboard) I also connected that to my Mac via USB and I could type with that!
(reinstall section) Keeps telling me to select disc where to install without giving me any option to select anything. Then I was stuck in that mode, where I could not continue forward or back. So I finally shut down and back up w/com/R.
Did not work for me after several attempts. Did not get the Utilities screen at any time. Got the Language screen and my mouse also froze. Can't do anything!

I ended up changing my hard drive. Turns out It was %50 fried. So I got an 480gb SSD for $70 and macOS Catalina. Now, it turns on in 24 seconds and i can open UP TO 7 programs simultaneously AND BACK TO BACK super quick.

EDIT: I deleted my hard disks several times and tried to reinstall Mac OS. It didn't work for 2 or 3 days. Then i tried to install the first OS, that came with my mac (in this case: Yosemite). It worked, but i had several problems with the system so that i couldn't really run programs. Then, i deleted all again and tried to reinstall Catalina. After 4 days trying and stucked loading bars it finally worked. I really don't know why...
This worked- but last night when I switched users - it shut down and will not get past the loading bar. When I go through this process again it goes to the screen where I can install OS but then it gets stuck on the loading bar (about 25%). I have a 2016 27” iMac. It’s out of warranty by 2 months.
dennis tech 305 thanks- I’m waiting for the Catalina update now. It shows it’ll take 38 hours. It said 44 an hour ago. We installed Catalina on our other laptops - we have 3 MacBook Pros - with Touch Bars (my teenagers) and I have an Air. It took awhile. We have slow internet (12gb and under)....fastest offering in our area, Lol. The downside of living out in the country (we own a horse farm). I hope this works. I genuinely appreciated your video. I will call Apple if I have too..hope not.

It took me more than 20 mins to boot.up into recovery.. it takes A LONG TIME.. at least 20 or more mins to boot up into recovery.. if it doesn't boot up into recovery after 30 mins then try again

Quick question, so when I did command and R after restarting it l, I held them down for 2 minutes and my screen was just black. No apple logo🙃🙃. But when I just restart it with it pressing them them it boots up to 100% and just stays there. 🙃🙃🙃
@@artouditou0818 100% sure.. as long as you do it the way I did it on my video.. you're just reinstalling the OS.. think of it as you updating your mac to the new OS.. that's all it is . Trust me.
I have tried four to five times and it does't work as shown in your video, but at the end of the boot, I see on the screen a window showing a mouse followed by another window which shows a keybord View, with no possibilities to use them. Thanks for your help

I tried to boot in recovery mode, the progress bar still gets stuck around 75% during the boot process, any other suggestions?

Reinstalling an OS doesn't wipe anything . Only when you format a hard drive does. Glad it worked for you

This didn't work I reboot and press command R but nothing happens. The screen goes white and after a few minutes the reboot sequence begins

Omg thank you! Also in case people run into the same problem as I: my Bluetooth mouse wouldn’t connect and I didn’t know why, same with my keyboard. Luckily I have another mouse which I was able to plug in via USB and it worked. With my keyboard (basic Bluetooth apple keyboard) I also connected that to my Mac via USB and I could type with that!

(reinstall section) Keeps telling me to select disc where to install without giving me any option to select anything. Then I was stuck in that mode, where I could not continue forward or back. So I finally shut down and back up w/com/R.
When i click reinstall os i have this error os_x_full_marketing_name cannot be installed 😢
Don’t the command button any ideas how to do it other ways

I ended up changing my hard drive. Turns out It was %50 fried. So I got an 480gb SSD for $70 and macOS Catalina. Now, it turns on in 24 seconds and i can open UP TO 7 programs simultaneously AND BACK TO BACK super quick.

My loading screen is stucked again after re-install. I don’t know what to do 😞
EDIT: I deleted my hard disks several times and tried to reinstall Mac OS. It didn't work for 2 or 3 days. Then i tried to install the first OS, that came with my mac (in this case: Yosemite). It worked, but i had several problems with the system so that i couldn't really run programs.
Then, i deleted all again and tried to reinstall Catalina. After 4 days trying and stucked loading bars it finally worked. I really don't know why...
Mine takes long to start and is EXTREMELY slow when it does.

This worked- but last night when I switched users - it shut down and will not get past the loading bar. When I go through this process again it goes to the screen where I can install OS but then it gets stuck on the loading bar (about 25%). I have a 2016 27” iMac. It’s out of warranty by 2 months.
My iMac is older than yours and this really fixed the problem.. I know it took like an hour for my computer to reinstall the OS...
Try restarting your Mac in safe mode.. see if that works.. or, try to reinstall the OS again, if it gets stuck, try it again
dennis tech 305 thanks- I’m waiting for the Catalina update now. It shows it’ll take 38 hours. It said 44 an hour ago. We installed Catalina on our other laptops - we have 3 MacBook Pros - with Touch Bars (my teenagers) and I have an Air. It took awhile. We have slow internet (12gb and under)....fastest offering in our area, Lol. The downside of living out in the country (we own a horse farm). I hope this works. I genuinely appreciated your video. I will call Apple if I have too..hope not.
@@gsdlvr123 oh wow.. yea, that is very slow, it will take some time to install the OS but it will sure install.. just make sure noone switches your computer off by mistake 😲😲😲😂 good luck!

It took me more than 20 mins to boot.up into recovery.. it takes A LONG TIME.. at least 20 or more mins to boot up into recovery.. if it doesn't boot up into recovery after 30 mins then try again

When I followed your step to reinstall macOS. It told me the recovery server could not be contacted.
U need to be connected to Internet. On the right top u can see WiFi symbol

Quick question, so when I did command and R after restarting it l, I held them down for 2 minutes and my screen was just black. No apple logo🙃🙃. But when I just restart it with it pressing them them it boots up to 100% and just stays there. 🙃🙃🙃

@@artouditou0818 100% sure.. as long as you do it the way I did it on my video.. you're just reinstalling the OS.. think of it as you updating your mac to the new OS.. that's all it is . Trust me.

I have tried four to five times and it does't work as shown in your video, but at the end of the boot, I see on the screen a window showing a mouse followed by another window which shows a keybord View, with no possibilities to use them. Thanks for your help
