    Dad taught Sunday School nearly 40 years, worked swing shift at a steel mill 24 years, dug wells, ran a garbage company, and 20 years as a high school janitor . He battled cancer 16.5 years. What did he teach me? Good faith and hard work will take you far. As veterans, we (you included) LIVED this song.

      Respect is earned not given

    • @batmanwins4584
      @batmanwins4584 4 роки тому

      @Christopher Gillet never understood people who say that. For a civilized society to work people must respect each other. Respect can be lost, but if you don't show it, to begin with, then no one can earn it. In other words, you would not disrespect a stranger because they haven't earned your respect.

    • @christophergillet5688
      @christophergillet5688 4 роки тому

      @Batman wins.Respect and kindness are two different things.I don't have to respect strangers to be kind to them.

    • @batmanwins4584
      @batmanwins4584 4 роки тому

      @Christopher Gillet no what you are referring to is admiration, not respect. Respect has multiple connotations, but it is respectful not to talk over someone else; it is respectful to hold the door for someone, so to say respect is earned not given is just not true; you show everyone a base level of respect, and it grows or diminishes over time. You could say that talking over someone is unkind, but it is never said that way you are told from a young age that that is disrespectful. Now you may want to hang on to your slogan and sware that you only give respect to those that earn it, but what you really mean at that point is admiration, subtle but important distinctions. In any case, I wish you the best goodnight.

      My dad and I never had a good relationship. He said something that hurt me, and later he said he loved me. I did not say it back , I told him that you don't hurt the ones you love. 2 days later my dad went into a coma, and died 2 months later. That is something I regret every day, it has been 18 yrs ago. I always make sure now to say I love you. No matter how mad I get. I teach this to my children now

    My dad & I had a crappy relationship, but it's a good lesson:
    "Don't go starting fights - but if someone starts one with you, you damn well end it. And you end it swiftly, brutally, and efficiently, and make sure it's publicly seen if the guy's a d* k. Because if anyone else wants to f*ck with you, they'll think twice if they see it." And it's true. I was the target for bullies a lot when I was a kid, but once I applied that to my life, the bullying thing eased off quiet a bit.

    My Dad was an amazing man. He fathered 10 daughters and 8 sons with the same woman after his Navy service during WWII. He worked hard every single day, sometimes 15 hrs for long winter days as a millwright for a defense contractor. He never once complained openly to us, Mom or anyone else, it was his duty as father, son and husband. He taught all of us by both example and word that we were no better than anyone else nor was anyone else better than us and to always treat everyone with respect even if they don't deserve it. We had the house that every kid in the neighborhood wanted to be at because EVERYONE was welcome in our house. We were poor but we didn't know it. Mom learned to sew when we were little so she could make all our clothes (including prom and wedding gowns). When Dad got home from work and was dead tired, he always played with us kids and "let" us scratch his back and comb his hair. Both parents sang all the time, so we always sing too. Sometimes it drives the in-laws crazy but truth be told, they love it because it shows how close and bonded we all are...each other's best friends.
    As for Aaron's message in this song, most definitely believe it wholeheartedly.

    My dad taught me a lot. Mainly about cars, like how to change a tire, check tire pressure, how to check the fluids and top them off. He use to tell me not to settle for anything less than what I deserve. He taught my brothers to live by the phrase "Happy Wife means Happy Life.", which he learned from his father. He taught all three of us the message of this song as well. He taught us to respect our military, without them we would not have the freedoms and luxuries that we do have. He taught us to trust and respect others until given a reason not to. He also taught us to trust our gut, 'If something don't feel right, than it ain't right.'

    I was fortunate to have two VERY involved parents, four grandparents, an aunt that’s like a second mother to me, a protective elder brother that has unfortunately passed on and several close cousins! I had all four of my grandparents heavily involved in my life until
    I lost two of my grandparents the year I turned 18, but they ALL made a HUGE impact on the woman I’ve become today! (I’m about to be 33, and I’ve been reflecting on things a lot like hoe I never thought I’d make it out of my teens at all, much less into and out of my 20’s and into my 30’s because of a serious chronic condition that causes chronic pain, migraines, seizures, mobility issues, anxiety and depression. Both my grandmothers taught me how to be strong yet soft and loving and still enjoy life around chronic pain! And my grandmothers, mom and aunt were WAY ahead of their times and taught me how to be a lady that spoke her mind and stood up for herself and how to keep working towards my dreams, which I’m SO grateful for! My father and both grandfathers were also really big influences in my life and they ALL showed me how a man is supposed to respect and treat a woman, and now that I’m older and know more about what some of my extended family members and close friends went through with their abusive exes and the way my family is the hold the abuser accountable and do not blame the person they abused for “not leaving sooner” or any of that crap, I’m doubly grateful I grew up with good examples of loving, compassionate and respectful couples all around me that stuck together through the hard times (like my illness and my brother’s death) as I definitely would not have learned how to be myself without apologies and how to grow closer to God duding hardships and keep that going even when things are going well if it wasn’t for the examples I saw in my dad, my mom, my grandparents and other close family! They mean the world to me! 🌏🌏

If he borrowed someones car he didn't return it unless it was washed with a full tank of gas, leave it better than you found it, he did it with everything and lived his life by it. Great song.

    My dad was my childhood hero, and he retained his hero status when I was old enough to see he was a mere human. He was the most honorable man I have ever met. He never said much about his dealings with people but after he passed people kept telling me about a tome they were down on their luck and he would help them out by giving them a odd job to earn some money or help them get a loan to get their business started. I was proud of him to begin with but I’m even more so now that I have heard other people talk about him.

    My dad served in the Army 101st Airborne 82nd division. He told me if you can't serve in the Military find away to still help your country. I was disqualified due to a torn ACL from the United States Navy. So for 4 to 5 years on my own time I was able to volunteer to help due the foot work for them. Also my dad told me I can be anything I want to be. My parents told me to stand up for what I believe in.

    My father taught me that your word is the most important thing to prove your an honest man.

    One thing my dad taught me was to always work my hardest and give my best in everything I do. It doesn’t matter whether it’s my job, my relationships, or just life in general; always put my best into everything. Another thing he taught me was to always be honest, because if you lie your word means nothing.

    I think this is some of the best advice anyone could give a young person. We would all be better people if we stood for what was right instead of what was easy.

    My father made all of his kids(13), first respects for the United States of America.
    Second, your word must be your bond.
    Third, your family is your family. You may fight between each other, but you stand up for them against others.
    That's the very beginning.
    This is a man who lived through all of the wars we had in the 1900's.
    I was born at the latter end of his life. He was 60 & my mom was in her 50's.
    He was retired, so I spent all of my time with him. He was a military man, but he had seen so much in his lifetime.
    He rode a horse to school & also got to see a man walk on the moon. So, he had a lot of experience.

    Best lesson my dad has taught me is, a man is only as good as his word.

    I fully believe this. When I think of lessons my father taught me, the word the pops in my mind in integrity. You don't compromise your values because it is convenient.
    The other message that always sticks with me: he told me a story of a business trip when a married associate was looking to hook up. He never did business with him again. He said "if that's how he treats his wife, how do you think he will treat you. Wisest word I ever heard.

    You should have this as your opening song. You have morals. A man who stands for right and truth.

    My old man taught me how to play golf. Doesn’t sound like much, but he knew golf would do the rest. As long as he put the bug under my skin, and helped me along when I struggled, he knew the game of golf and the discipline it takes to play the game at a high level would do the rest. And for that I’m forever grateful.

    They can take your freedom, your money, your life. They can’t take your honor. No matter what happens, be a man of honor.
    That’s what dad taught me as the most important.

    My father was realised very old fashion, and I was as well. The first thing he ever told me taught me was and I live up to it every day, "to get respect you must first give respect. But if someone disrespects you, they are not worth of your respect so walk easy and strive to prove your a bigger man than those that disrespect others." I have lived up to this not only in expecting my elders but even kids.

    My father and I don’t exactly see eye to eye all the time, but he taught me that just because something’s not easy, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give your all. And I still stand for something I believe in.
