A classy and commendable job you did explaining the shooting situation DG. And I like when you when film during walker hours because it puts more emphasis toward the mall set up instead of the people there.

I like this mall a lot, it’s pretty. There’s a mall in an area called “Murray” (a suburb of Salt Lake City in Utah) it’s also a Simon mall and it’s called Fashion Place Mall, there was a shooting there near “The Container Store” back in January of 2024, it has yet to effect mall traffic. There’s lots of high end retailers and it’s one of two malls in the state that continues to stay busy enough for Nordstrom to be an anchor (other anchors are Dillard’s, Macy’s, and a bunch of junior anchors).

I know other malls have gone through a shooting incident, and survived after that. I.e. Mayfair Mall in Milwaukee, and Orland Square in the Chicago area. Late last year I did visit Mayfair, and that mall was BUSY inside. It seems like since that shooting, Mayfair did boost their security presence inside this mall.
Although with some others, a mall did start a decline after a shooting occurred. When Northlake Mall in Charlotte had several shooting incidents, Apple Store decided to bail there. Apple remains at Orland Square to this day since only one shooting incident occurred there, but it never occurred again.
There also was a past shooting incident at Von Maur, at Westroads Mall in Omaha. That Von Maur remains open to this day, despite that shooting.
Unfortunately though, other malls have had multiple shootings occur, which caused a very bad hit to their public image. Good example is Greenspoint Mall in the Houston area(and very recently closed for good last month, RIP), and Independence Center in the KC area(now is down to only having Dick's and Dillard's as anchors, and a lot of stores have left like Old Navy and Macy's).

Not many vacancies which looks promising… does this mall have a large catchment area / any competition… a lot of national chains too… I’d love to get more daylight into some of those corridors.. it felt quite claustrophobic with the low ceilings and little daylight… and the inevitable lifestyle wing ….

Its not as good as it used to be , as per usual with malls. But it still has a good amount of people . Funny thing is I was literally just there

I grew up around this mall and it was always middle traffic flow in the 80’s throughout the years up to today. I was born in 81 and I never had any friends but I remember window shopping with my father and spending hot days in the mall.
All I remember after 2001 is getting the hell out of Indiana and moving to Illinois instead. I grew up disliking Indiana because of personal reasons.

Thank God for the concealed carrier; screw the "policy" which would have undoubtedly led to far more innocent deaths. May those three poor souls rest in peace... I keep mentioning Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, AL, and how we've had, oh, at least three shootings there just over this summer. I don't think there have been any fatalities though. Soon, Montgomery is going to have zero indoor malls left. Eastdale is gasping for air :(

It's very sad about Eastdale. I've always liked the look of this mall, per pictures I've researched of it. And per posts I've seen about it on Sky City(Facebook retail group). Was the ice rink inside this mall ever reopened? Since I know that closed for a little while. And I think today one of the slumlords(either Namdar or Kohan), owns this mall.

1st. We don't seem to be safe in anywhere these days. There has been some incidents in every mall around here.

There was recently a mall shooting in a local mall recently at the food court. This mall is already dying. I don’t know what will happen now after that incident. There’s a mall in VA that used to be local. It’s doing well despite also having a shooting in the food court maybe 6 or so years ago. You just never know. I will be 48 tomorrow and definitely lived through the 80’s. Imagine wall to wall people and absolutely no parking spots. That’s what malls were like back then. Watch any 80’s movie or sitcom. Many times the mall is mentioned or they go to the mall. There were movies centered around the mall in the 80’s. I really can’t stand gun free zones. That means good guys can’t be there in the moment for protection. Everyone becomes sitting ducks until the police can get there and even find the shooter by then.

Doomie nailed it when he said criminals don't care about gun-free zones.
