I lived there back in the early 70's and worked for the City of Lake Havasu City. It was a very small town then. I planted the trees and rose bushes and sod all around the english pubs and shops. The Grand Opening of the London bridge was a blast, one of the biggest firework displays I've ever seen.

I was there in 78, what a trip, love this video. Interesting that (speaking of the current drought conditions on the river) various LHC news sources have repeatedly said that there has been no effect on Havasu lake levels, however, you can get several clear shots of the water levels around the bridge pylons in this video and compare with recent pictures of same pylons and there has been a significant water level drop...no lying about that, they won't be able to cover it up for long.

There is no conspiracy about Havasu's lake level. You haven't a clue what you're talking about. Lake Havasu's level varies by just a couple of feet over the year. It HAS to be held at a constant level as it's the water source for TWO vital water systems; the Central Arizona Project and the Colorado River Aqueduct. All of the other lakes' levels on the Colorado River vary widely, but Havasu's is held pretty constant. If taps run dry in Phoenix or LA, people are going to notice.

I was there in 1974 and have considered living there a few times over the years...
I love the place but I think it was better then .....
The Boats Today are; Too Big, Too Fast, and Use way too much Gas, and they don't care.
and that's what the town wants to attract from what I can tell....
The only way I can compensate for the over crowding on weekend is to only go there on weekdays. That's when you can enjoy the lake... not just a place to party.

Honestly it's that old style of thinking is what is strangling this town. This is a tourism town not a retirement community. Also with the boats, yes boats are bigger but they arnt using any more gas then the smaller boats of the 70s due to hydrodynamics and fuel efficiency. The biggest bummer about this town currently is alot of out of town quest don't pick up after themselves.

@Max Headroom I live here full time and honestly I'm not sure what you are going on about havasu is trying to drive tourism. Making roads, beaches, parks, the lake, and walk ways better are all very important. The one thing that hinders this town is the senior community.

There was a lot of grass around the bridge until all the commercial development took over, so it *was* much greener.
