- I get asked about gold scratching a lot! This is a big concern with many and rightfully so. There's nothing you can do about gold scratching as it is natural and inevitable. I offer some tips and other ways to hide these scratches. It really depends on how picky you are to this issue. Wearing a Franco or rope is a good way to hide scratches. This reminds me of what a watch dealer told me when I was making my purchase. "It's going to get scratched, just enjoy wearing it." Can always polish it once in awhile to make it look good again once you get tired of looking at it with all the blemishes.

I just received my 3rd Jacoje purchase, 5th piece from Braden. Stop looking. You found your jeweler. Most recently I purchased a 1.4mm box chain. I’m very very impressed with the attention to detail on the soldering near clasp. Only jeweler I’ll go to.

I wear my 3.5mm Franco everyday. I play beach volleyball twice a week and never take it off. I've owned it for 2 years and it looks great. I don't take much care of it. Just wear it. I also don't look for scratches as the chain looks awesome always.

I layer everyday pretty much, even with the 5mm 24” Byzantine. I can’t see anything noticeable by looking at them(except minuscule scratches)even after years of layering. I love mixing up the layers. It’s a unique look that you rarely see on people. My 3mm 22kt 22” Franco won’t see another chain though lol. That’s a solo piece🔥🔥🔥🔥

I have been wearing my 2 Flat Curb Chains as well as my 2.5 g Emerald Pamp everyday for the last 3 years. Yeah they have some minor scratches but they still look great.

I used to polish for a factory so I always polish my own jewelry with a Dremel. A lot of the scratches don't go away they just get hidden.

I'm planning on getting a 20 inch 2.5mm rope with the mini crucifix and a 3.5mm d/c franco with a large lion both in 18k for everyday use. I know 18k is softer than 14 but is it too soft to the point that I can't wear it for everyday use? I just love the color of 18k but I'm afraid it will scratch wayyy too much and break. Any advice????

Do you know how to get the black spots on the chains I have a rope chain somewhere to what you’re wearing around your neck and I bought it from a true gold guy in my area it’s 14 karat and ever since the day I bought it it had two small little black spots on it like within the links and I don’t know if it’s between me working in the warehouse cause I work around car parts and maybe I touched it with Greece but he detailed it or cleaned it more than once for me and still can’t seem to get those two spots out and can’t figure out what they are

Can't be worrying about scratches, sh!t you can't even be worrying about stuff breaking or as one comment said above you will not be able to enjoy the stuff you buy if you don't just toss that logic out the window, just remember everything can be fixed and restored to normal for a price! No sense in worrying about stuff that you can get again or simply pay and get it fixed I learned the hard way with one of my chains I bought that was hollow

okay I did mean polish not buff them out but thank you I used to take mine and look at them on Jewelers loupes all the time but if you clean them well and use the the cloth to shine anymore nobody notices everybody just notices The Bling

Sad truth is yea it does. Definitely wouldn’t wear a pendant doing anything active where it’s sliding around a lot. I have an 18k chain n pendant and have always been extremely careful with my jewelry and haven’t noticed anything personally. But I know if I wore as frequently and careless as most then absolutely it would slide around and scratch

But...should it be scratched when it comes to you as a "new" piece? Just had a fairly heavy chain delivered, and I've got a decent bracelet too...that wasn't scratched at all except a few extremely light ones...this chain has got them all over :/ so should it get to you flawless?

Yeah I already said in the first comment it was fairly heavy. The way you said it made it sound like you were asking if one link was heavy 😂. Since been told it's the way they have them transported from Italy...obviously not on the top of their game, if it were me I'd be making sure they were wrapped or somthing so they get to people in as pristine condition as possible.
I agree. I received a 5mm heavy link and it was all scratched which was disappointing. I’m getting rid of it. I just got a 4mm white gold franco and it looks way better in comparison.

While it will not prevent scratches I use a product called renaissance wax on all my 14k gold.

Scratches give your gold character…that’s it.
So if true change on at the same time rubbing together will scratch it will a chain that has a pendant on it at all times end up rubbing the diamond cuts to where it's not so shiny anymore or is that just because it needs to be cleaned better I don't like using the red container of stuff at all greens or Walmart I didn't say the other store y'all know that red container that they say is safer diamond cut jewelry well I don't think it is I think it made messed up my really nice 15-year-old custom-made out of a bracelet and a chain Fargo 929 sterling silver pure solid diamond cut need help getting something fixed and getting it cleaned properly and not have to worry about not getting the right necklace back meaning they take mine because it's worth more and give me the cheap one who do you trust to to clean up your expensive and somewhat not easy to find anymore necklaces bracelets rings who do you trust to get it cleaned to get them to steam it to get all the impurities out of it all your sweat out of it everything that is collected in the gold or the silver or whatever I need that jeweler and that also does custom grills for implant plates please message me back on either occasion let me know what your messaging about

Does anyone have any experience using a gold polishing cloth? I’m pretty new to jewelry and don’t want gold coming off my chains so this seems like the safest option since it’s cleaning by hand.
Your nearest jewelry store should be able to clean it in a vibration bath with mr clean. Should be free too. It’ll look brand new🔥🔥🔥🔥 that’s what I do. I take about 10 different chains at a time to get them cleaned. They look good and new when I take them in and they look brand new when they are cleaned lol🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would say polishing with the gold cloth doesn’t really remove tiny amounts of gold like a polishing wheel that jewelers use. The cloth isn’t as abrasive or heavy duty. I say this because a polishing cloth won’t remove scratches but the polishing wheel or any other tool for polishing can.
