Bolt size: M8 - 1.25
Just changed my brake pads now. Thank you for teaching me how. Saved me 450 dollars from the mechanics
If you incorrectly thought it was the front brakes, then moved to check the rear brakes, make sure to DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE before removing the disc drum combo rotor! Dont ask how I know.
I just did this 😄
Did it too! 😂
Im.lost so put the e brake on for the back?
Minor thing, appears you didn't orient the rotor so the parking brake adjuster was accessible. Would require you to remove the rotor and re-orient if you needed to adjust the parking brake.
Noticed a couple things. I have never got the rear rotor off without backing off the parking brake shoes. This will be especially true if the car has been driven with the parking brake on. I also coat the flat of the hub and the hub flange with a thin coat of high temp grease such as wheel bearing grease. Whoever takes the rotor off the next time will sure appreciate it.
did this yesterday... they do mention the rust build-up under the clips, but greatly underestimate it. There was so much rust build-up where the clips sit that it took me half hour of heavy filing to clean it up. You can't do it with just a wire brush. The old rear pads were in pristine condition simply because they got stuck in the caliper bracket pushed by the rust. So much for my mechanic's work.. when you want something done - diy
great vid, thanks!
+Zaur Gozalov Thanks for the tip!
Now that was a very thorough and informative video.
Thanks
Andy you have saved me so much money thank you
Great video. But did you forget to put on the little clips that squeal when the pad is worn?
+Donald Edwards Thanks for the feedback!
You don’t need the brake pad indicator clips, they are a suggested thing, if you do general maintenance on your car then just check brake fluid level. When it gets low your breaks are typically getting close to due, or you have a leak. Both should be checked
I don't know if I told you but thanks broski 🙏 ypu teaching me so much
Excellent. Thanks. Doing this this weekend.
A-1 is the best. Thank you!!!
Great video. Question: what is that small rubber cap on the rotor? I believe there is an adjustment under that cap, but have not seen anyone actually using this?
Just what I needed to know. Thank you.
Fine narration with good video.
+Donald Bowen Thanks for the feedback!
E brake adjustment? I came to see how to do that.
Don’t ever spray brake cleaner down the guide pin boot; it’ll swell the rubber boot making water and debris entering and corrosion will occur and premature brake pad wear.
I didn't see where the wear indicator was installed. where does it go?
Thanks!
OK thanks this may sound nuts but in another video when doing fronts they said to take the cap off the brake fluid container as this will avoid any air or pressure in the brake line....thank Vin I will advise.
+Richie Morgan Taking the cap off of the master cylinder reservoir will allow the calipers to be compressed easier. 1aauto.com
missing the brake fluid bleeding part during the brake replacement wonder if it is necessary?
What about those 2 springs that go into the pads to help hold the bads away from the rotor? didn't see them in vid...
Awesome 😎 thanks mate 😊🚗👍
Did you forgot to adjust the parking brakes after intalling the new rotor?
+Iulian Stoican Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
What size is that damn bolt to loose. The rotor???
Mike D I am looking for the bolt size too
14mm and 17mm
Two M8 - 1.25 bolts should be used to loosen the rotor from the hub if it is stuck.
@@GibsonGuitarPlayer27 Yes
Is it not necessary to replace the brake shoes?
The shoes are for the parking brake. Unless someone has been driving the vehicle a lot with the parking brake on, these should last the life of the vehicle.
What about disc brake anti squeal grease?
Why no brake wear indicators?
What is the size of the bolt?
spent an hour at the parts store today trying every available bolt, and no match
M8 - 1.25
Thanks
Is everything the same for a 2011 Toyota Rav4?
+PackerManForLife The part in this video fits your application, and the install should be the same or similar. Buy this part on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Not in detail for many . Which side are you on ! Which side do you unscrew ? And so on.
I put all new brakes and rotors and calipers on my rav 4 2008 , and my rear brakes are scratching my new rotors .. What did I do wrong .. please help
+Dave Meyers We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
if the pads are scratching the rotors one possibility could be they are not flush with it. if you never replaced calipers and brackets on your 2008 car one reason could be rust buildup under the clips that prevents the clips from sitting properly and the pads from moving freely. Make sure to clean it very well with a file, not just a wire brush. after installation the pads need to move freely and smoothly inside the caliper bracket.
Just find a random bolt…. Easy for you to say! 🙄
You forgot the emergency brake !!
