    "It's an entry-level job requiring 3 years of experience." I felt that one in my soul.

    I was following you a while but you lost me when you said all the Pal designs were bad, I don't know what the general consensus is but I personally though that most of them were rather appealing, and the ones that were referential too Pokemon usually had some twist on their design that made them stand out more (with a few notable exceptions).
    Edit: Also I think you may have missed the point of the work mechanics narrative speaking, I could be looking into it too much but I figured the message of Palworld was about striking a healthy balance with nature, hence why all the main factions represent different major play styles (of Palworld and more general multiplayer players) and why the most efficient way to base is by respecting your Pals and paying attention to your base environment.

      In cutting for length, I realize that I removed some nuance. There was a section where I delved into my preference for a few of the Pal designs, even if none of them are original. Vanwyrm springs to mind. Pokemon has plenty of terrible/uninspired designs, as well. If I could re-edit this essay, I would absolutely draw that distinction better.
      I love your take on the work mechanics! I was focused directly on Mizobe's comparison to Rimworld. But these kinds of conversations are exactly what a very consequential release should be triggering. Comps are important in the creative industry, but they only go so far.

      @@ceeaymoore Honestly I didn't even know the devs compared the baseing too Rimworld, it's more like a combo of Ark and a little bit of Startdew tbh

    Damn, an actually good summation of the Palworld...situation? Controversy? Idk. Either way, this is good. Still, I have to give Palworld some kind of props for trying to clone Pokemon by way of Ark, even if the end result is every "Pokemon is so dark, innit?" joke streamed through ChatGPT. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how discordant the game's style was. Now, granted, that seems to be a running theme in a post Fortnite world, but Palworld felt particularly egregious, like I was looking at an Unreal asset flip.

    0:20 post pal world ending up meaning post newest content update, and look at those player numbers on steam db... ^^ its a thing of beauty, you make a good game, you listen to then fans... and the money comes naturaly no need to gaslight the player base or mentaly munipulate them with adictive gambling and micro transactons... its almost like the old days again... sad that in anotehr few decades saying "the old days" is just going to mean the start of all this bullsh it... the horse armor scandle... if only gamers had had the metal to hold theyre dignaty and ground against it... maybe things across the industry now would be better... instead we chose to laugh it off... aaa game studios get the last laugh now....

    Can't wait for pokemon games to have voice texting they wouldn't be so generic if they did

    What we wanted in Pokemon for so long was given trivially in Palworld. If Pocketpair keeps up with that in mind, they'll see long term dominance in the monster genre. I don't have to "what if" in Pokemon anymore as there is now a better game that has more potential. I don't care if a new Pokemon game lets me ride Charizard and fly around, as I have already been spoiled flying with Jetragon shooting missiles on bootleg PETA soldiers.
    The latest update alone could've been sold separately if it were Pokemon. In 5-10 years we might not even have to buy another copy as the updates will be free for the base game.

      Bingo. For all its many flaws, Palworld nails the premise of Pokemon better than any recent Pokemon game, and does it in a way that is at least updated for modern gamer sensibilities. Most importantly, they did it as a AA studio, with lots of asset-flipping and half-assing, and somehow rode a hype train that was out of their control to still land with a sizeable chunk of both Pokemon fans and Pokemon-ambivalent players. Pocketpair can only go up from here (potentially), and I genuinely want them to succeed. Mizobe comes across as a dude who just fkin loves playing video games.

    Now hopefully since they had a lot of time on Pokémon's legend ZA we finally get the pokemon/legend of Zelda like experience Even though we'll be stuck in the city throughout the whole thing but it's supposed to be massive so will see😅

      It does! I actually wrote an essay on it that I'm planning to expand upon and turn into a video, as there's lots to talk about regarding the way it plays into the strength of video games to tell a story.

    I love your video and made a bunch of great points but it does sound like you fully went into the game expecting pokemon and didn't enjoy it because it wasn't pokemon and you're not a huge fan of grinding survival games. Sorry if im wrong though

    • @ceeaymoore
      @ceeaymoore  2 дні тому

      Hey, thanks for commenting! You're right about the grinding, but I tried to make it clear that was a "me" thing. I even had someone watching me stream who played Palworld for 600 hours because they LOVE grinding, so I get how other people can dig it.
      I didn't know what to expect getting into Palworld, hence the deep dive. No one did. I enjoyed parts of it, and gave it lots of credit for the things it does well, and how it improves the Pokemon formula. Things like the partner skills and work suitability are awesome, and greatly expand on the Pokemon premise in ways Pokemon completely fails at. But ultimately the game is flawed in profound ways that have nothing to do with grinding, and I can only hope PocketPair works out all the kinks by the time they get it up to 1.0

    If they truly need help when it comes to animating the same pokemon over and over again and better styles and make them accurate to the moves they use this is when you need AI 😂 When a task is too big and too great AI comes in a handy now they don't need to use it for everything but just for the things they need quickly done everything else by hand

    • @ceeaymoore
      @ceeaymoore  2 дні тому

      Artists utilizing AI tools/plugins to improve their workflow in animating? Yeah, I wouldn't knock that.
