1:39 those brakes were glowing brighter than my future. at those speeds without parachutes trying to stop with disc brakes is about as pointless as pissing on a light socket
@@robertbenoit5374 He's very much still racing and finished 5th in the standings last year. So you're wrong on the first two parts, but at least you're technically right on the last one since he tunes his own car.
So you can tell by the comments most people have been fooled into believing the human body is this weak thing. Mostly because cars on the street the fatalities we see in patients are definitely lower than 20yrs ago because of side curtain airbags as well as seat airbags. Airbags in your street car are literally a head and neck restraint system. We kept having fatal crashes from the head not being seat belted so we added air bags. Racing uses Hans and hybrids with containment seats. We realized the human body is so much more robust than we thought 30yrs ago. We had this attitude saying “why even wear a Hans these speeds are too fast it won’t help” we were so ignorant on how many Gs the human body can withstand and walk away if properly restrained and contained. It’s so sad seeing the impacts and have drivers get out fine when I just treated a fatality 3 nights ago in a 65mph impact. It’s like shit if we had better restraint systems in street cars so many people would be alive.
NHRA nitro methane must be watched in person, nascar is not even close, a nascar can pass a funny car, nascar at full speed, funny car will win race to quarter mile mark, easily
Great audio on that replay I could hear parts coming out of the bottom of Cruz's engine when he went boom. Notice the flames under the engine or I should say the fire. That was definitely a bottom end explosion.
They need a TAIL HOOK like jets use to land on aircraft carriers, in the sand trap. Maybe just a hook protruding down from the wheelie bars. and a bungee type cable system to arrest the forward motion. One tiny modification could save lives and damage to the cars and drivers.
Actually, it's not the impact that does the damage to the driver, it's the sudden stop. The human body can't handle sudden deceleration. That's why there is a focus on soft walls like the SAFER (Steel And Foam Energy Reduction) barrier.
The problem is the fuel in the intake manifold is getting close to its Otto ignition state . Most guys don’t even read intake manifold plenum pressure any more on the race pack because we don’t want to see it
Intake valve gets hung open and that is what caused the big boomers. It gets ignited by the spark plugs and blows off the blower. The pressure destroys the body because well, something has to give and pressure looks for the weakest point.
Believe it or not, these hobbies advance military and civilian safety technology and technique. By blowing them selvs up and lighting their asses on fire...for fun. I hate it when I get lit on fire when my 10k horsepower motor goes off like a howitzer ap round. I love it when the developed technology let's me walk away.
It's not the crashes we like. It's the AND THEY WALKED AWAY that we all like. Notice that the crowd cheers when the driver gets out of the car. Even in nascar they cheer but it isnt the wreck they are cheering about. It's the driver walking away. I don't like the crashes, my favorite driver had a near career ending crash in 2007 at Texas motorplex in Dallas. He didn't walk away he was carried away and then air lifted to a hospital and the only thing he cared about was "DID I BEAT KENNY BERNSTEIN." Which he did but obviously he couldn't run the next round.
Those engines are pushed to the absolute limit on every single component. Any sort of excess strain, from the clutches locking a little to fast to the tires shaking wrong to microscopic defects from manufacturing. And at that level of stress, when something lets go, it's not gonna be pretty.
Door slammer cars,, 150 plus mph with 50 mph brakes. Way too much reliance on the handkerchief!! The Funnys and the rails are stupid beyond belief with NO front brakes In reality those nitro cars, as well as NOS cars are simply too dangerous, For both the drivers and the crowd. Sooner than later big parts are going to end in the crowd. Plain methanol/ ethanol fuels or petrol is all that is required. And will slow the cars too as they do not fit the tracks anymore. Hence the 1000 foot which will be 1/8 fairly soon. Or tracks with a mile slowdown
Thought the first dude got decapitated for a second

Damn those brakes are “lit”
Everyone that races against the LRS blue car blows up
oh my @_@
I love Tim Wilkerson
Thank you God for allowing the drivers to walk away and live to drive another day.
Rod Powers thank modern engineering and safety standards

Mega oof
Why don't they make the emergency run off go up hill like big truck run offs. Or maybe the same thing on how jets stop on aircraft carriers.
Tim wilkersons team has gotta be doin some shady stuff 😂😂
Tim Wilkerson isn't racing anymore after a dismal 2018, he is now a crew chief.

Woah! That’s crazy!
its amazing the safety systems in these cars and the amazing safety safari make this sport what it is 300mph or more and they walk away amazing

Crusty Cobs the inertia alone from the tailhook stop would rip the chassis into two parts
I feel like they would have done that years ago if it would do anything
I noticed that everytime someone races babyblue the opponent's car pops 🤷🏼 don't race em take a knee 🤦

Awesome race car crashes. I hope no one was hurt bad.

No shit
Its run off of alcohol so it stays fairly cool the flashpoint of alcohaol is around 60F if I can remember right
😍😍😍😍😍😍
so a question for the uninitiated, what causes the engines to blow up exactly?
Nitromethane fuel, cylinders loaded with raw fuel, 10,00 horsepower, 10, 000 RPM's, etc....
Those engines are pushed to the absolute limit on every single component. Any sort of excess strain, from the clutches locking a little to fast to the tires shaking wrong to microscopic defects from manufacturing. And at that level of stress, when something lets go, it's not gonna be pretty.
These engines are not built to last and many times something goes wrong
