  • I go through the process of measuring and procuring a transom bracket for the back of the boat. This video also includes a tour of A & J Marine Welding showing how the bracket is made and coated. I also go through the four local providers of brackets and why I choose A & J Marine Welding.

    I'm curious, what was your wait time from time of order to delivery? It seems like a lot of companies are having difficulty delivering on schedule.

      Ah, never mind. I didn't catch that you hadn''t received it yet.

      I ordered the transom bracket in the middle of April 2022 and am scheduled for shipment the beginning of July 2022. I plan to continue to confirm the estimated delivery date in May and June. The long delivery seems to be caused by demand...no one was sitting around playing cards while I was there. For example, a boat across the street, 32 Chris Craft, had the two big blocks pulled out and is moving to a bracket with twin 450 Hp Mercury's. The boat will be going from 800 HP to 900 HP with the Merc's with increased flotation provided by the bracket. The weight of the boat decreases and another five feet of space inside the boat gained by the change.

    How do you determine that the existing transom can handle the weight and stress?

      It's an educated guess (SWAG). The motor that was on the boat was a 250 HP Honda and it was working well on the transom. I have added another inch of Coosa Board and expanded it to cover the entire transom with tabbing to the sides and bottom of the boat. Once I determine the location of the transom bracket I will add a 2 X 4 on edge across the transom and glass it in for additional support. Keep in mind the original motor had an aluminum plate the size of the motor mounts for stiffness...I'm adding the transom bracket that will spread the load across the transom and provide additional flotation for the second motor.

      Transom angle on the Grady White is 11 degrees. Engine setback is 30 inches.

    You decided not to have a hull extension, and just a bracket? May I ask why?

    • @regorsgarageboatbasin7515
      @regorsgarageboatbasin7515  11 місяців тому +1

      It's easy to do on an existing hull. The transom just needs to be strong and flat. I still need to add a transom shelf, support along the top of the transom, to be certain of the strong feature.

    How much is it ?

    • @regorsgarageboatbasin7515

      $4400 plus tax and shipping, Keep in mind that the bracket was tailored to my boat. As I have a 3 inch thick transom, the half inch stainless bolts are six inches rather than the standard 4 inches. I believe there are between 15 and 20 bolts.

      I'll see in a month or so. When I finish up the stringers I move on to a transom shelf and finish the transom outside and mount the bracket.

      I went to A & J Marine Welding in Hialeah and found them to be quite knowledgeable...my wife likes the Cuban Coffee they make. It appears he made what I requested, but I have yet to hang it on the back of the hull. As you can see by my episodes I'm still working on the structure of the boat.
