Trying out GAO Viet Kitchen in San Francisco for the very first time. Was it worth the hype?

Dinner at GAO Viet Kitchen in San Mateo, San Francisco.
This location is very cozy, a bit small but I can’t compare it to their other location as I never been there before.
Reservations are highly recommended as they are very popular so if you hate waiting, I would suggest you make reservations.
We went without making reservations and got lucky because we arrived after 8:30 PM so getting seated wasn’t a problem.
Also help that it was 30 minutes before they were closing.
I really wanted to try their short rib banh mi that was the main reason why we decided to go there, but it was a chef special and he wasn’t on the schedule that night. Therefore, the dish was not available to order. Bummer!
However, there were many other options and everyone loved it! 10/10 highly recommended and we all wanted to come back the next day. 😝

Not worth it for me based on what I ordered that day, but I do want to go back and try something else.
