For me this is the correct tempo. It is often too fast. This speed allows all the melodic lines to be explored. I stand amazed at the technical brilliance of all who can play this beautiful piece of music at what ever speed. I certainly can't!
There's a surviving recording of Barrios himself playing this and it's ridiculously fast! Although it's said he played it so fast so it could fit on the record, given the limitation of the recording media back then
Having played this piece for my high school senior recital, it truly baffles me how he has made it seem so effortless in this performance. This has got to be one of the most technically demanding pieces of repertoire I have ever played and he has managed to pull it off with such grace and elegance, exactly the way it should sound. Bravo
@@afonsodeportugala lot of musical talent with decade of practice All guitarists are willing to practice hard but very few can play this piece as good as this guy
Marvellously clean, balanced and powerful without stress. Perhaps one of the best guitarists that most don't hear about? I'm going to watch and practice to this video I'm sure there's a lot to learn and improve on by seeing this. Thank you very much.
Nicholas, your interpretation of this work by Agustín Barrios is by far the best I have ever heard, even better than John Williams' version, congratulations, you have an incredible technique!!!!!
I started classical guitar 9 years ago. New to classical guitar, I was modestly interested playing Bach and others, but stumbling across this video is what really made me dive deep. I was like “who is this Barrios?” Only to discover he was low key the greatest guitarist to ever live. Mangoré is the reason I play to this day.
So 'legato' - absolutely beautiful. Also read your channel's bio with interest as an internist by day and classical guitarist on the side. The misfortune of psoriatic arthritis involving the nails for a professional guitarist is mind boggling. Your playing is masterful. All the best.

Nicholas, tu interpretación de ésta obra de Agustín Barrios es por mucho la mejor que he escuchado, mejor incluso que la versión de John Williams, muchas felicidades, tienes una técnica increíble!!!!!
I´ve been playing the guitar since I can think. I started when I was 5 years old and now I´m 19. I could performed "La Catedral" in a concert lately and Mr. Petrou´s version of this piece is without a doubt my favorite one. It lacks all the unnecessary exagerations all the other versions I know include but doesn´t fail to convey the core message of this song (of course all of this is only my honest opinion). Thank you and saludos from Spain!
Wouah ! Une main droite parfaite ! Les notes sont parfaitement détachées avec LA bonne intensité, il n'y a plus qu'a fermer les yeux et se laisser porter. Quel talent !
Such a tricky movement to play well. It's nice to hear that others find it tricky. A pro at the top of their game makes it look easy...that was smooth.
Learning this section of La Catedral and I simply couldn’t fathom how people play it! Your movements are so clean, it really helps visualize how the piece is supposed to look! I honestly place this piece on the same difficulty level as Asturias
Great players makes a demanding piece like this look smooth and easy to play. While this is indeed a truly badass piece of music for guitar. Moreover played at the correct (in my opinion) speed, not in a frenetic way, as too many technically endowed players do. Compliments.
Es un placer escucharla de este modo: hay quien corre demasiado haciendo alarde de esa velocidad, sin ventaja para la obra sino todo lo contrario. Felicitaciones Nicolás!
I'm just familiarizing with this style but it's so obvious that you stand out, like Michelangeli did among pianists. No pretentious rubatos, just pure discipline.
You became one of my favorites.. i really feel good to see a guitarrist from other country playing Lauro the way you do.. Im from Venezuela you also play Barrios excelent! thank you for share
This is natural classical guitar! It helped me a lot in my humble efforts to play this piece, specially in the second part where you avoid the pestanas that almost everybody play, which makes the music feel heavy and unnatural. Besides, the quasi inexistence of jumps makes the music so fluid and seem effortless. Greetings from Brazil. I became a big fond of you!
@@jamesrawlings5781 A pestana is made when press we all or part of the guitar stings in a certain fret with the index finger. I'm not sure about the English name (my translator says "eyelash"). I always try to avoid them because of an index finger injury. Hope it helped you,
the only thing that's cleaner than his technique is his floor

No, his technique is way cleaner.
