- An amazing performance by DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, and DJ Numark performing live on Akai MPC samplers!! From the 2002 DJ Shadow DVD "Live! In Tune & On Time". You can pick up a copy at Amazon here: www.amazon.com/...
He just simply ran the output of his MPC into a line input on one of his mixer channel, same as you would a CD player. Then he simply set the sample he wanted to "scratch" to 'one shot' triggering, so that each time he pressed it the sample would play from the beginning again. I don't own an MPC, but have used many a sampler in my day, so I hope this translates and makes sense.
18 years later. Still watching this.... epic.
I have this joint saved to a finger drumming playlist, so I'm never going to forget about it
14 years later still watching this. I have the single cd which is a recording of this performance called "pushing buttons live." if I remember right it came as a bonus with Shadow's the Private Press album.
Correct. I’ve got it upstairs 🔥
A tip: you can watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Heath Erik definitely, I have been using Flixzone for months myself =)
Make that 21 years and still counting bro!! And Cut Chemist absolutely murdered his first bit! Impressive. Especially with just a sampler and a mixer
This is history
Seeing both of them using the MPC2000 classic over the XL not only gives me hope on learning mine more effectively, but also mad respect to using the OG model vs the legendary version
one of my favourite routines of all time!
This is still banging. Three of my all-time heroes together.
These guys never fail to inspire.
Has it really been 10 years? I still play their stuff like it came out yesterday
Has it really been 20 years now 😅
i have watched diz video 50 maybe 60 time, and i still thinks its the best video on youtube period
strait talent...
Numark comin ta Calgary!
SHADOW is off the chain!
Fucking awesome.
DJ Shadow is a LEGEND.
Still one of my favorite things ever done.
Your man down the front in blue is lovin it!
All these DJ's are at the top of their game. Effing Brilliant.
oh damn, they killin it buttons only! oh how i would like to go 10 yrs back in time.
dj shadow is god!!! Seriously the tightest DJ on the planet, surrounded by the electronic rat pack. Relax and take notes....
this really inspires me...
Those machines are unreal, too. What you can do with them... damn...
I don't know much about this kind of music, but even I know that these are pretty big names. I have seen DJ Shadow songs in movie soundtracks etc
this is the root of the reason of why i buy an MPC!. pretty COOL!
They're having so much fun!
mpc's have a note repeat that you can turn up to crazy levels (for this it would be at like 300bpm). That's why you'll notice he's holding the button until he wants the sound to stop, rather than tapping like they do the for the rest of it.
Then it's a matter of assinging a sound to that button.
i just realized why Girl Talk says he isn't a DJ, it's because he does not have half the talent as these three. all mashup artists aspire to be this good. much respect for Cut Chemist, DJ Numark and DJ Shadow.
Look how focused Shadow is. He's really staring down that Akai.
MPCs are god's gift
AMAZING
He cut´s a sampler ... that was creative ... i love it...
this is awesome
yo they are killin it. mad skillz
That was truly amazing. If there was a 6 out of 5 star rating, I would give it that.
i love the end where cut chemist plays the pads like bongos
they need to do this again like NOW!!!!!
6 minutes in and I realize R2D2 is just chillin on stage
Shadow, Numark AND CC? Shit man, have to love it
no turntables, just buttons, what!? oh man, chemist, shadow, numark! ten minutes! you've outdone yourselves. this is too sick.
2021 and still dope as hell.
simply the best, thats talent, anybody better than chemist?? didn't think so!!! im with you ramp2pow
Old enough to drive and it's still good. Glad i decided to look thru old vids
BEAUTIFULLY SICK
I love djing and the culture. But jamming out on samplers if soooo much more fun it seems.
WTF -- Incredible!
I cannot comprehend your intricate phrase you had stated except for the last 4 words
Definatly whatever you want! Most come with built in drum kits just to get you going, but everyone likes to build their own sound librarys. It's totally up to your imagination. From there you can edit the sound so it is shorter or stretch it longer. Later models have effects you can assign to whatever button you like.
Un délice...mes oreilles en raffollent...
Five starred and favorited. Amazing DJ'ing.
That was great. wowzers.
4:40 is a sick beat.
I like that to dance to.
I guess let me try to rephrase this so the above user doesn't sound ignorant himself and just name calling others. For those that don't know, these 3 artists are some very great and creative DJs. All 3 have gone on tour around their world for their DJ-ing. DJ Numark and Cut Chemist being once producers for Jurrassic 5 as well as DJ Shadow is also an extremely talented producer. This video merely shows that these guys aren't just DJs but also shows they are producers and live artists.
the Latin part is wicked!
...the coldest thing i ever seen...
the best ..i love this !!!!!!
Hell yeah really cool stuff!
Awesome!!!
try and push the right button at the right time. thats what makes it amazing. this vid shows perfection in it´s glory. period. end of talk. zipp it!
;)

This is like the dj/mpc version of the Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Steve Gadd drum solo. So sick.
My inspirations
Se armó la batucada!
The sample at 1:36 is an old Duke Ellington tune from the 1940s called "The 5 o'clock Whistle".
