I am concerned for this gentleman soldier. Every detail burned into his mind. I hope he has met
with his soldiers in the private sector gathered and shared thoughts from that experience and encouraged all to support each other. They were affected by drawn out hellish isolation, pain, feeling hung out to dry, in need of ammunition and support troops, feeling responsible in an impossible situation. Behind this horrific experience is a sad man. God Bless All of Them.
As a Mom - I just want to hug and comfort Ro. He has endured so much and carries so much pain with him.
Ro, what is that.
@@orange70383 Not sure what you're asking - Ro is short for Romesha his last name. I read his book. I believe he was sometimes referred to as "Ro" in the book and I took the liberty of using it which may be too familiar to be proper.
SSgt Romesha mentions numerous times how humbled he is to be selected to accept the MOH for his service to America, we're humbled and sometimes even cry with him, are humbled to know America has many who deserve the highest award for valantry and service America bestowes on her soldiers but will never be recognized. We're honored to learn SSgt Romesha's story of what happened on that day, the 3rd of October, 2009 in Afghanistan.
“If you gotta go around and tell everyone how great you are , you probably aren’t that great”. Silence is golden. Love it.
With exceptions of course.
But, but I'm awesome
Duct tape is silver
What a great man. Gives me hope for the future. Thank you Clinton Romesha for your service and sacrifice!
There is a 2020 movie "The Outpost" about this battle . Good movie saw it last night
Same ,good movie.Hit all the important points of the battle
Same, it helped visualize the real battle. The camera work was very good.
Such a badass movie
Very good movie!!! I never heard of it before I watched it the other day an was a little skeptical on the movie at first since it wasn't a major motion picture or highly publicized, but surprisingly it was extremely well done and truly shows the bravery of our soldiers.
@@POSSUM3K3 I agree. The promotion and movie trailers didn’t do it much justice. I was pleasantly surprised on how good the movie was. Such a shame it didn’t get as much praise as “American Sniper” for instance. The overall true story is remarkable. Two Medal Of Honor plus most decorated Army squad in the Afghanistan war? Like cmon
You are a true American hero. I am a former Sgt Marine, and you are my brother for sure ! God bless you !\
What a humble man - Medal of Honor recipient - Respect!
Valor is only seen from the onlookers view!!!
I hope you guys are never forgetten. May you find peace brother, I represent the 82nd and I salute you all.
What a great young man thank you for your service and story it almost makes you feel like I was there the way you explain it ! Very well said!! GREAT JOB!
That young man is the salt of the earth. The type of man that has made and continues to make this country great. True American. God bless and thank you.
Just watched "The Outpost"...This Guy is a Badass...
You can her his voice change talking about his war experience. Truly powerful stuff
intelligent fellow and very good communicator.
Hero...
Very articulate to!!!
First class human being and American. Definitely a national treasure along with all those soldiers that fought that battle. What a group of fine people. The people that did the interview weren't bad people, but what the hell did they think they were doing? "Oh just a minute son while I check my text messages, oh just a minute while I get some coffee, oh just a minute, this and that. They act like they are doing a story about a guy who won a sack race at the county fair.
This is so awesome ! Thank you for your service!!
Thats a great man right there id love to have the honor of meeting him
I read The Outpost. Jake Tapper wrote the story of this American Hero and the amazing marines he fought with.
Inspirational story of survival and heroism.
Read Romesha’s book “Red Platoon”….amazing
These men should be enough reason why we respect our constitution, and honor our service members.
Every one at cop Keating are heros!! And romesha you are a great leader!! I can't say I Kno the pain but just know people care about your story and everyone else that was there on October 3rd 2009
Read the book , saw the movie about 4 times ..... and met and rode 2 weeks on a motorcycle trip with a
Ranger who fought in that battle .....
The audio is awefull
Agreed. They'd better of using an iPhone...
AGAIN
Just watched the movie 🎥 unbelievable group of men bravest of the brave
🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸
Hero and inspiration to every serving soldier and veteran would follow you in to any battle brother
Thank you my brother for your service . Scouts out!
It seems very disrespectful to keep interrupting this hero and sticking that board in his face every five minutes! I've never seen such an interview. Let the man tell his story his own way-----HE HAS EARNED THE RIGHT.
It says in a description that this is the unedited footage.
That's how interviews go.
This was the interview that was used for the movie The Outpost his stories are all in the movie
Read “Red Platoon”, it’s his story in his own words.
Balls of steel. Love the outpost. I was Infantry in Iraq.
Great person agreed but, dude behind camera should show more respect to him
James McDonnel ...I agree. The only thing I can hear was his ignorant wants and comments. The guy interviewing from behind the camera needed to be slapped!!
Yea this isn't about you James Cameron
Hear Hear Jmes McDonnel, Hear, HEAR. That or those interviewers are dweebs who likely NEVER served or they would have been more respectful of an American hero.
Dude behind the camera was a Ranger FYI.second, he's trying to make a film, and make Him look as good as possible...is doubt he felt disrespectful
Also, when your a soldier and or "marine" or combat operator or what-have-you, yall' kinda achieve a level of symbiotic love and mutual respect.....he's trying to trim the fat, granted after watching this again your also correct, he should have displayed paitance better.
“There are none closer to
The author of pain & sacrifice
Than those who choose to
Perform it for the sake & safety of others.”
-U.S. Paratrooper Sgt. 82nd Abn. Div. 1/504 ‘71-‘74
I love MOH on netflix but it does does not do this man the honor he deserves!!!!
At 41:30 the SSgt mentioned the ANA, who were positioned on the Eastern perimeter were missing almost 1/2 their 30 man force,, no surprise eh? Wonder where they were? Likely on the surrounding hillside directing fire into the encampment would be my guess. If anyone would wonder why American and coalitian forces did not trust the ANA nor the Afghani Police, here's your answer.
Same happened in Vietnam!! Just saying.
@@richardbowers3647 Government never really cared much about the man getting shot at.
You need to get on a podcast with jocko
Kyle Sky Jocko is 100% better when it comes too combat vets brotha.... joe doesn't know anything about fighting in combat.
I agree. I enjoyed jockos podcast with Dakota meyer.
This is so intense I stop every 15-30 minutes to get a drink of water. How brave he is
to suffer reliving these horrific memories of them all facing a hopeless situation. It makes
me angry that officers down the mountain didn't have a P L A N to get ammo to them from
the get go using dogs or drones. Unacceptable situation.
Wow such a great story and they cant even get the audio right. And the interviewer needs to show a little bit more respect!
These clips could be dramatically improved if the background speaker either wore a mic or edited out compketely their questions, its kinda high school art as it is.
“ 5 years in classroom means nothing for 10 minutes on the ground”
1.14.01. “I don’t know if I could’ve stood up”. You already have.
'I love you' means 'I won't sign for you.'
So very sad, that in today's modern age, you can't figure out the microphones, editing, sound, etc...
You have these amazing people in front of you and it's amateur hour! damn
WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE SOME FOOTAGE OF THE BATTLES.
They have the movie the outpost on Netflix but it would be great to see the actual battle from each soilders point of view these guys went through hell trying to take back the camp
@@foxglitch5965 and, who would stand there taking a video knowing there was a bullet about to shred him to bits?
Yeah, let's stand there and wave to the camera while we blow these m fers up!! The movie The Outpost is as close as you will get to the real thing and it's pretty damn close too!! Awesome movie and I thank God for these soldiers and for all the soldiers that fight for us here in the USA!!
Guy giving the interview is a disgrace.
Wish I could hear the questions
Audio is lacking
I was the 1000th subscriber!!!! Ayyeee
Thank You!
So is leadership an inherent gift?
Or can it be taught and developed?
Some combination of both?
Because if not for his leadership, all at COP Keating would have been killed as well as survivors tortured and beheaded.
Real leadership under fire, service in love under stress and duress, is a life and death issue
Sound is horribly low. What a shame
This man should never have to make a house payment, pay a utility, buy a meal or pay for a beer. True Patriot from a long tradition. Something this country is losing.
Yeah, they're getting locked up for Seditious Conspiracy.
*_Besides the Bible, if i had one other book to read & i could make it happen, it would be Clint's granma's diary._*
The price these guys pay! Amazing and heartbreaking
One look into his eyes tell it all
Read the book. It’s excellent.
Real hero
When he said I don’t know if I could’ve stood up I don’t think he realized that he was already standing.
Two an a half hours straining to hear interviewer...not enjoyable. Would have been great to relax and hear story INCLUDING questions. Mic up interviewer. Not going to struggle through any more History is Back videos.
Not really supposed to hear if. Him u watch the edited version u don't hear him at all
Having headphones helps tremendously
There’s nothing the interviewer says that’s worth a shit.. Be glad you can’t hear him!
Any thumbs down is for 2 guys making film, they suck, disrespectful....Lov this man, one Brave American, our greatest Treasure for sure....Audio so bad..should hv bn fixed before released..
Thats leadership
These guys should make the next Star Wars movie!!
cant watch fix volume
Great young man and terrible interviewer
read his book
Definitely wanted to hit that marker board puke. Interviewer sucks.
I've seen video of the FOB position. It's mind boggling that any commander would have chosen that location. Hopefully a courts martial of that person resulted from the MoH review board.
Great Men................pathetic.......leadership..............
Doesn't it just frost your b*lls that these remarkable human beings, who sacrificed so much, had to abandon that outpost, with nothing tangible to show for it. At least they got to experience the freedom borne of the willingness to give everything up in service to someone or something else. No one can take that away from them...finally released from the bondage of self. Jake Tapper's book was gut wrenching, but Romesha captured the futility of Afghanistan in two thoughts...... Nobody wanted Nuristan...not the Afghans, not the Pakistani, certainly not us...just didn't want anybody else to have it.
Sir, thank you for your service. Way to “take that bitch back!”
My question is why didn't our military notice more activity gathering in the area
COP Keating should’ve never been there in the first place.
I wish that I could hear the interviewer's questions better. This sounds like a complete planning PLUCK-UP by the commanders; playing "my dick's bigger than yours - we can encamp anywhere we like; and you can't harm us". The thing I've learned from soldiers is NEVER complain, just tackle your duties and form your part of the machine. Notice the absence of curse words; this may be due to his Mormon upbringing, but somehow, I feel he swore enough for 12 lifetimes.
Dont condense!!! I was on the end of my seat

I know this dude has issues probably and been through a lot. I just don't get why his story is so amazing but still the way he tells it I'm falling asleep.
Read or listen to his book…if you fall asleep during that then get checked because there’s something wrong with you.
Sounds a lot like the Alamo….
Great American example
Where does it talk about the buddy blood transfusions they did ?
Shooting squirrels? That's a thing?
the interviewer ruined content and pacing, lively up, this isnt late night FM. you cant blame clinton. keep your day job.
I don't believe his story, he feels guilty bcs he knows he ran away, a coward. He should have not got a medal and refused it.
The mans a HERO, But over 2 hours of his monotone voices, droning on and on and on drove me insane.
I read Lone Survivor and Red Platoon back to back, Lone Survivor first. They both have riveting content, but Red Platoon is far better written. Lone Survivor is sickeningly politicized by Luttrell. He seems to think that Liberal, (maybe he means far left?) people are crap and would never make it as a Navy Seal. I found that view offensive, unsubstantiated and polarizing.
Red Platoon recognizes that there is no difference in the commitment of the guys fighting for their lives. As far as I can recall, neither religion nor political affiliation was ever mentioned. He did describe various very different personalities, all of which made no difference when they fought with 100% grit to the end, the same as Navy Seals do.
Luttrell is right about liberals. They probably support the Taliban.
@@farzana6676
Let me refresh your memory:
•Ronald Reagan was the President during 8 of the 9 years of the Russian vs. Taliban years which was 1979-1989.
•The CIA led a covert effort to support the Taliban by funding their operations against the Russians.
•The guns provided to the Taliban then were used to fight and kill our soldiers and the Afghan soldiers for the length of our support of the Afghan military during the Afghan war against the Taliban.
So think again. Reagan was a Republican.
•
@@ms.rlsteele351
Let me refresh your memory. The Taliban was only formed after the collapse of the Soviet Union during the Afghan civil war so your entire comment is false. It was Ahmed Shah Massoud who received the majority funding from Reagan during the Soviet War and he fought against the Taliban later during the Afghan Civil War.
What Biden did was an absolute disgrace. He made America exit like some 3rd rate failure of a country instead of leave with the dignity that a Superpower deserves. With this kind of exit, Biden has damaged the image, credibility and standing of the United States in a way that has never been done by any President in American history.
@@farzana6676 Perhaps I should have said Mujahideen. And I 100% disagree with the U S pulling completely out of Afghanistan. However, that was Trump’s position on that war as well. His negotiated agreement with the Taliban lasted roughly two days. Anyone that knows anything about Afghanistan knows that an agreement with the Taliban never lasts long. So no matter which course Biden chose, it wasn't going to be well-received by most people, even by those who continually criticized Obama for decisions on how many soldiers to keep there.
What I can say is that I am deeply grateful that my son, an officer stationed at FOB Tillman, come home physically intact. His best friend and several others did not for the same reasons that caused the catastrophe at Camp Keating.
@@ms.rlsteele351 I hope your son is not a libtard like you. We only want patriots in our military and I wouldn't be comfortable standing alongside anything less.
You're not reading my comment. I am not disputing our decision to leave. I am criticizing Biden in the disgusting and shamefully embarrassing manner that he made us leave. As though we were running away from the Taliban and left behind all our equipment to the Taliban!
He has deeply damaged the image of America in the World. Biden is weak and Taliban knows it. The terrorists know it and everybody else knows it.
All these MOH guys are so humble! The antithesis of the self-promoting louts you see pounding their chests and casting their brothers aside. Douchebag Robert O'Neill, for example.
I saw `the outpost` movie. Very poor movie.
Poor how?
@@K1ngDre-DMZ very poorly directed, unrelated actions, really funny fighting actions ...
I saw the movie, if you did any research you would know they used some of the actual soldiers in the film portraying themselves that were in that very battle. They did everything they could to make it as authentic to what really happened. You a vet, have you ever seen action to judge what is unrealistic?
Bro the guy behind the camera needs a beating
It pisses me the fuck off why anyone would put a fucking small ass OUTPOST on the bottom of a valley in Afghanistan knowing those mountains are invested with enemy
Can’t believe this has under 100k views. Everyone should hear this story. It’s crazy this guy can recount all the moments with the fog of war.
It's cause most people are concerned with how many followers they have and how much more of everything they can have for themselves. Very shallow and predictable society we live in nowadays.
I'm under the impression that "fog of war" relates more to the inherent ambiguity regarding an organization's knowledge of both its adversary's and its own operational status, abilities, disposition, objective(s), size, etc. that is caused by the difficulty in affecting communication, intelligence gathering, etc. during wartime, as opposed to an individual soldier's inability to accurately recollect individual events. I've seen it used as a malapropism for the latter phenomenon quite a bit though so I'm sure you picked it up from seeing it used in a similar context somewhere. I believe my definition is closer to both the way the term is curreny used by the U.S. military as well as Clausewitz's original meaning when he (inadvertantly) coined the term by his copious use of the word "fog." I'm a former U.S. Army infantry noncommisioned officer (5.5 years of service with two combat deployments) as well as an amateur enthusiast of warfare and military history.
@@Sporebreath2304 As much as I (mostly) agree with your premise, I'm in my thirties and I've seen many more of my peers as well as the younger generations reject that particular lifestyle than you'd think. IMO it all starts with parenting and I would urge any parents (or soon-to-be ones) reading this to PLEASE don't allow your child to play with any devices such as phones or tablets until they are old enough to speak and effectively and coherently communicate and have been properly socialized with other children in their peer group. It isn't gonna kill them to not have a tablet or play with your phone. If you teach them early on that your phone isn't a toy, they won't even try to ask you for it. When they're old enough to attend kindergarten and they get the potential to feel envy and resentment because all the other kids play with tablets and phones, then it is the time to allow them some time with such devices- under your supervision of course, and it should never be their sole form of entertainment as it is NO substitute for actual, tactile playtime.
You can see it in his face and his eyes, so much pain and sadness, maybe even survivor's guilt. It was so heartbreaking at times listening to him try to recount his story, then have a stupid dam interviewer stopping him mid sentence, while some stage hand shoves that thing in front of him to mark the film point. Fuckin' heartless jesus.
SSgt. Romesha's expression all through the interview says so much. This man and the men he served with, they're all extraordinary heroes. The rest of us blessed to live in this great nation should aspire to live lives worthy of their sacrifice. Respect and blessings, SSgt. Romesha.
Heroes why?... and how?
Extraordinary hero? Is that something different than any other type of hero?
Didn't you hear him say himself that he was just doing his job?
Good story though....kept me riveted.

There is a problem with the govt forcing good men to serve an oath that is hypocritical. When these men are shipped out, alot are there because it’s a job, life reasons, etc. My step father was relieved after he was struck with shrapnel from an RPG blowing out the wall of a building. He watched good men die, so I respect these men, and everyone who fights for what they believe in, there is nothing more honorable than facing the grim reaper when they come knocking. What I hate so much is how the govt forces such good men into terrible situations. The only thing I believe would change politicians minds, and those in power, is to serve. Yes there’s a 5* general, and chain of command, and I am sure all who took orders and gave them felt so many emotions. There was once a time when friendly fire was commonplace, so it’s gotta be heart wrenching to know they tried their most and still had losses. Always will when there’s war. It’s sad, but real. It’ll never end, it just changes shape and formality. Someone said whoever made Kamdesh an outpost should be held responsible for making a suicide kill box, I somewhat agree.
There’s only one way to Heaven and that’s by way of Christ Jesus Hallelujah
“Time stood still and time slipped by without notice “. Such a great way to help us understand what he experienced. I can tell you it’s exactly like that. There are times when your life is in great danger that Time stand still and everything goes it just slow motion. And when it continues for a long period of time there’s all this time you can’t account that just slipped by. I understand it exactly. Plus when he say rounds the difference between rounds fired at us or….those rounds were “AT US”. another great explanation of the reality of war. Plus the unbelievable loudness of a full on assault!
He can really tell a great…well Great “story” is an understatement!
I wanna slam this man with elementary interview skills and etiquette. Respect the story for christ's sake. Let him answer in a way best for him, not you. God bless Clint. I advise to go literally anywhere else to hear his unbelievable story.
Don't be so harsh it is 2.5 hours long there are many long, uninterrupted sections that he goes into great detail.
You have to understand they're trying to make a movie. Not really trying to make an interview.
The conversation needs to be concise for limited airtime.
@@farzana6676 Don't care much. He's trying. But id have signals. I'd know not to ask the best questions conveniently 3 seconds from break (ADS), that's 2 right there. it's his hustle, but we both know there are a ton of ways to create natural stopping points. But that takes a good interviewer who doesn't interrupt when they're spilling their guts about something more tramatc we will ever know. He's not 13. But he makes good content.
@@catsforhire9116 When you're spilling your gut and being interrupting mid-sentence in the best of parts for ads. I don't think harsh is a bad classification. He's a big boy. Critical criticism is meant to b taken. If u don't like my opinion... can't help ya. We see things differently prob.
Brilliant interview with a great and humble man. His biography of the battle is exceptional.
Brilliant interview? Hahaha...interview questions are hardly audible
Why is the volume on all these so low. Youre killin me smalls
Thank God it’s not just me. Thought I was losing my hearing. Lol
It frustrated the fuk out of me
Pure appreciation. Even in this interview his determination to share his story amidst the stop and start of the filming is selflessness. How lucky we are to have men like him to be willing to give the ultimate sacrifice.
Sacrifice for what, not to protect this country but to serve the evil elite.
This interviewer needs to be slapped! Just let the man tell his story
This dude is a legit hero.
Break it all down and tell me why he is a hero? They got smoked at that base and shouldnt have been there.

You are a very humble and honorable man Mr. Clint Romesha. The love and loyalty you have for the men you served with is admirable. You are the kind of person and leader that set an example for men to follow you even unto death. I SALUTE you. I pray for GOD to continue to bless you and give you long life.
I read his book, Red Platoon. Just watched The Outpost. I think they did a great job for those men who are still on that mountain in Nuristan. The movie really hit home. Godspeed SSG. Till Valhalla to those men who didn’t make it home.

"But we don't have half an hour."
*video is two and a half hours long*
XD
Not many movies make me cry. The Outpost did. The storytelling the movie did and that damn song. "Everybody cries" It's insane, but not surprising, it took 12 dead and 37 wounded (8-27 US, 4-10 ANA) for the higher ups to finally close down COP Keating. Damn deathtrap.
Typical question of a civilian.. why is it critical to bring back fallen soldiers? You don’t leave a brother behind period! That interviewer wouldn’t want his body left and dragged through the streets not that he Would care but he’s absolutely right the family member would be subjected to seeing or hearing that their loved ones body was desecrated by the enemy not to mention ever be recovered to be returned.. makes me so mad to hear that.. I still have images of the ranger being drug through the streets of Mogadishu.. it’s meant to demoralize which does for some but others it enrages.. god bless this man
The enemy attacks the native soldiers!!! Same happened in Vietnam! The enemy always attack the weakest point of defense!!! Just saying. The word 'valor' was made for this American soldier!!!
astonishing, that's the best I can come up with. Outstanding interview guys, although any interruption of this hyam being's testimony would alwaly have been irritating. Well done.
Very grateful to have this interview. Some advice would be to work on the volume for future videos. It was extremely hard to listen to this in any setting except in the still and quiet. I generally like to listen to stuff while driving and whatnot and even with everything cranked to maximum it was very difficult to hear. Otherwise great video, thank you
Outstanding. I read the book Red Platoon. The problem was I didnt have a face, nor voice to go along with it. Now I do.
