I bought this yesterday - epic horn, love the 4WS, looks good, nice big tank. Seems a bit gutless somehow though for a heavy hauler. This is my opinion before watching your video.

When I look at it, “America, fuck yeah” plays in my head! When I drive it, “shall I watch team America world police instead” plays in my head lol! It seems we have the same results, epic horn, lovely rear steer, looks great, looks like you’d win in a crash lol! And then it just has the engine power of I don’t even know what? Which isn’t like America, they’d stick a V8 in pencil sharpener so I highly doubt this truck in this game is America approved lol! But I've been doing some ordinary semi-trailer hauling in Alaska and with a full load it sometimes needs low and diff lock to make it up icy hills ON THE FRIGGIN ROAD! Just needs more power to be an epic truck :(
Agree with you mate. I think the truck was underrepresented. I loved it the minute I saw it in game (haven’t even unlocked it yet) but looked it up online and by all reports and stats it seems an ABSOLUTE beast of a truck. So to see what it is in game, sad. There even a video on youtube of it blazing up a muddy trail with a loaded trailer of logs.
Yeah, it all comes down to the fact that the best engine it can use is the one that the Freightliner M916A1, Royal BM-17 and Cat CT680 also use. It's a good engine for those lighter trucks, but for the DL 4520 you'd definitely need something with quite a bit more oomph.
Nevets Nworb yeah I was really disappointed with this truck! I really wanted to like it, love the look, looks a beast, looks like a game killer, but it’s just not! It’s way too gutless, and that basically makes it terrible at most things sadly! There’s just nothing (expect steering) that it does better or even as good as other stuff that’s much cheaper! The off road dolphin Azov 5319 would absolutely destroy this truck in every way except turning! Some would say fuel is great on it but it drinks the same as the Azov, just has a tank twice the size, however, it moves at half the speed if that so you may get twice as long in it, but I doubt you’ll be any further ahead of the Azov in that twice as long! It needs a much bigger engine 👍🏻
Shizanketsuga Jesus I never knew it had the bloody royal and cat engine lol! That explains a lot!! Those trucks weight about a 5th of this truck it feels like! Damn yeah why hasn’t it got the westline or something meaty lol! The westline makes the twin steer amazing! If the twin had the royal engine it would be crap! Maybe they’ll add another engine at some point! It certainly needs it to become not just competitive, (not bothered if some trucks are worse but I do when they’re twice as bad for double the price lol) but just useful and enjoyable to drive and play around with! I bloody love the loaf so clearly speed and heavy cargo hauling aren’t my only requirements but yeah the loaf would eat this truck for breakfast lol! After it rescues it no doubt haha 👍🏻
@@itsmrlonewolf I was a bit surprised about that as well. The other surprise was seeing that the ANK shares its best engine with both Pacifics and the other Derry Longhorn. (I made an Excel sheet for myself to see what I can work with regarding engines, addons and stuff like that.) You don't see anything like that on the Russian side. All the Russian heavies share one beastly engine that you probably wouldn't dare build into anything smaller. (Although I would dare them to put one of them into a Lo4F.) I hope they give some of the trucks a bit of love in the shape of future upgrades like better engines for the Derry Longhorns, lift kits for the Kolob 74760 and the Azov 73210 and so on.

Haha damn dude you go all out lol I like it 👍🏻! Haha the loaf could handle an aircraft carrier engine and be fine 😂! And that’s after it winches the carrier out of the sea lol! Yeah a few of the American trucks need some more love with engines! The Russian engines are great really and is rarely a problem! The kolobs are a bit fat and slow but not to this Derry’s degree I don’t think! They definitely need lift kits on the kolobs though yeah the 747 one catches far too much for its size
I personally love this truck for getting through mud in Michigan. The one thing that really bugs me is that they didn't include the spare tire but included the gaping hole where it's supposed to go.

Have you tried the Azov 5319 though, it blows through the Michigan mud faster than this thing can fly off a cliff! I reviewed the Azov yesterday and if you just look at the first mud bit after I leave the garage, it nails the mud! For much less cost than this thing! But again I’m actually glad someone’s enjoying it lol 👍🏻! It does need a much bigger engine though like the westline! It’s currently got the same engine as the royal apparently which is a way lighter truck
The OHD, MHD, etc. Are the nomenclature for tire types. MHD Mud Heavy Duty, OHD Off-road Heavy Duty. That's why chains have the same treads, they are specific ones in the set with chains added on.
Yeah exactly dude but I swear I’ve tried muds vs chained on loads of trucks and they honestly feel identical, expect the chained are better at biting down in deeper grippier mud, and have better grip on rocks etc! I’ve even done the container speed run in drowned lands now about 250 times and about 40 each of those was just testing chained vs the custom muds on the Tayga, and I promise you the chained single rears consistently get faster times by about 5-10 seconds over the custom mud tyres! Because those muds are so wide they have to wade through thick mud and don’t like it as much, the chained just cut through and bite down on the deep mud where there’s more grip and motors through quicker! And I still prefer the muds on the Tayga so I’m not anti muds at all! But for these tests I’d like to stick to 1 tyre if I can so it’s a level playing field and yeah chained have never ever let me down! I’d rather get caught out on russia with chained than Alaska with muds! In case I forget to change them straight away! Just my opinions and feelings though dude 👍🏻
@@itsmrlonewolf I was pretty staunch in Mud Tires or nothing, but from watching your videos over the weeks, I've seen chains advantages. Even been trying tire tests myself, and there is definitely something better going on, with the chains. Not as fast in mud, but consistent.
Ltgaigley yeah same here dude I used to only put muds on stuff that could, (unless I forgot after chained in Alaska) but yeah just a feeling I’ve got that there’s not much need at least to switch back to muds like it’s going to change the truck! But not tried ever truck like that so not saying for all but so far the trucks I have tried it seems chained are fine 👍🏻! Yeah they just don’t feel worse than muds like you’d expect, but better in some other areas! Personally I can’t feel any difference in mud with either! Not saying there’s not, you may well be correct, but I’d at least say while flying along with the Azov 5319 for example, I wouldn’t notice between chained and mud through mud, as long as they both stay in high range gear and keep going then I probably wouldn’t even pay enough attention! But on that timed event chained are surprisingly faster which is odd because it’s a mud map!?
I love this truck, once aware of it's limitations I have used it plenty for getting trailers to places I wanted to get to in one go with no drama. It's got a huge fuel tank, doesn't fall over all the time and the turning circle is amazing. I've used it for some of the mega trailer missions too, no issues - mainly because it was all on roads not up mountains. As you've stated quite correctly before, each truck has strengths and weaknesses. It's no Lo4f though. I spent a few hours watching videos on the real life Lo4f last night - the UAZ Buhanka. Due to a typo I ended up watching a room full of men and a young lady for a while but I digress. Should I win the lottery I'd get a real one for sure, they look amazing! Another great test, can't disagree with anything you have said, I just for some reason have a soft spot for this truck. The only truck in this game I really don't see the point of is the Azov 10 wheeler with the Jimmy Hill chin and front suspension made from cheese. Not even good cheese, Kwik Save no frills cheese. Some springs and a lift kit would make it way OP though I guess as it can have a crane, a flatbed and tow a trailer.

After the first 10 seconds or so the video slows a bit as the first truck has multiple attempts but honestly from about 3 minutes to 11 minutes, some of the stuff would make people watching get sweaty palms! How no one died I don’t know! And the orange truck at around 9 minutes, holy crap I thought he was a full on gonner! How he kept that I don’t know! Obviously his enormous balls weighed down the truck lol! Yeah that 10 wheeler is just not worth the hassle! I like that it has rear steer but so does this Derry and I’d actually rather this Derry lol!

The truck is plenty powerful, but it's probably one of the heaviest in the game. And this game seems to have issues with the weight physics anyways, esp with fuel (liquid simulation has always been a pain in the ass with havok). These trucks are designed to be able to basically be dropped, have boulders fall on them, survive small explosions etc. It's like a tank on wheels. It's an armored truck, basically just a military tractor and all US military vehicles are damned snails. It does seem like they hit it with a nerf bat a bit.

I’m sure in real life it has a bigger engine than those trucks, or at least a tuned version! To be fair it is strong, but the Azov 5319 is bullet proof so again I can get that elsewhere! And even the speed, the Azov 72131 or whatever it’s called, the big red one, goes very slow as it has the advanced special gearbox, but it’s more than capable with its own dimensions and weight so it feels 10 times better! This thing feels gutless to the point it would stall going into high range in a high range gearbox, either up hill on a road, or just anywhere that wasn’t a road! And if all that meant it could haul tank weight up hills etc then it would be cool, but it couldn’t even get cargo up the first part of the quarry! Even the cat ct680 with broken rear suspension walked up there! Even when the cargo was unpacked so weightless, it got up but it struggled! Even the £30k ZIKZ walked that hill with an empty trailer! There’s just nothing it does, that loads of other stuff does as good or better, for half the money or less! The steering is awesome! And the fuel tank is big, however it’s so slow that you may get to spend twice as long in it between fill ups, but I doubt you’d be any further along than the Azov 5319 even though that has half the fuel capacity and is renowned as a bad on fuel truck! Along roads yeah it would get further! But off roading I think the Azov would go twice as fast and run out of fuel twice as fast so you’d still get to the same place, just faster lol! I think they’ve either done it on purpose to annoy Oshkosh for maybe being greedy with licensing, or they just haven’t gave it a decent engine! It needs the westline engine 👍🏻
Offroad dolphins are great. That red thing I use with the red box and it's for super remote rescue because It's so big and slow I don't think it is ever possible to get it stuck. Plus it's paint scheme matches that stupid box. To me it looks like an airplane service truck. I keep it around because I like red trucks lol.
@@itsmrlonewolf It might also just be simming the US military engine specs in game, which is a detroit 6 cylinder diesel. This is the fuel sipper that can idle for like 3 days that they use in most US military big vehicles. This version is usually deployed to desert or city regions, it doesn't damage roads since it spreads weight. For afghanistan where it was mountainous they used one with the cat engine. It's possible the programmers are just working off data sheets and plugging HP and Torque numbers in for each truck based off spreadsheets and fact sheets. The fact that the trucks now use a more powerful engine for hills and mud and stuff might not have occurred to them. The detroit engine the normal sepc'd one uses only has 500 hp but 1500 ft lbs of tq. The Cat engine is 700+ hp and 3000+ ft lbs. I doubt the licensing has anything to do with it, as Oshkosh is a govt contractor, and it's nearly impossible to get licensing with a US govt contractor, so I doubt they even asked. Devs prob just thought it was a cool, unique truck. Even tho it was only ever designed to tow the abrams in the desert. I hear it's a beast on sand.. We don't have any sand maps tho. Lot of career Military Truck mechanics in my family. We are all mechanics actually. Step dad is a truck driver, but dad's side is all types of mechanics.
Flight sims get away with licenses because plane manufacturers are private companies who SELL to the us govt (and all govts, even non allies can buy our planes). They get contracts, but R&D is internal. Only actual production is funded federally. Ground vehicles don't really work like this. Only way you can get US GOVT ground vehicles is either surplus (and even then it's nearly impossible to get a title for them and drive legally) or if you are another country and make a deal with our govt.
This is possible because weapons and armor systems are reconfigurable on planes, but ground vehicles use US developed weapons and are designed around them. Planes you just change the mounts. Even a private citizen can order a warplane sans weapons and armor systems if they are rich enough. I think only some dubai business men have tho.
I was so excited buying this truck for the first time and I did a few missions with it and just came across problems after problems after yes you guessed it problems so ended up driving it off the cliff by the airport and left it there.
Haha that’s the exact thing I did 😂! Flew it off the cliff to punish it for driving me nowhere but mad for hours! Then cashed it in for other trucks like the off road dolphin haha 👍🏻
Since everyones talking about bread vans, might as well mention the fact the left or right wheel can actually lift up when you turn at speed on the loaf and to make that wheel lift even higher use emils loaf mod and put the stage 7 engine in it
You won’t regret it dude there’s so many other better trucks. The Azov 5319 alone is £65k cheaper and is faster, tougher, can haul better, the Azov 5319 is better in every way except fuel tank size and no rear steer! 👍🏻
The only difference between mud and chained tires is that the chained ones negate the "slippery" stat of snow and ice. They will perform identically outside of snow and ice given the same base tire.

Honestly dude the first Derry is way better than this, although still suffers from that stupid dead axle that catches everything! So yeah even better sell the first, don’t buy this and get yourself the dolphin lol! Just to point out the fuel with the dolphin ok, here’s the thing, it’s got a tiny 200L tank, and yes it would be nice to have more, this Derry has a 400L tank, sounds great! But it’s so slow, and crap off road, I bet I could get further in the off road dolphin before I run out of fuel, than in this! Yes, I’d be driving this thing twice as long before I run out, but doesn’t mean I’d be twice as far lol! The opposite in fact! You’ll love the dolphin it’s a bloody brilliant truck! I reckon you're bang-on about the middle finger to Oshkosh haha. when a game makes something awesome, it definitely makes you like the item more and vice versa... after playing Division 2, all I wanted was M1A1 Socom, and I don't even hunt or can get a weapon like that, because Australia has appropriate gun control
I find with tires there comes a point of diminishing returns when weight of the vehicle is taken into consideration. Because Chained are OK in mud, with added weight of truck they will always do well. But when you're in one of the lighter scouts tire choice is even more important and benefit more from mud tires in mud vs chained.
You know as bad as this thing is, the P12 is still worse. I can't wait for you to review that truck, I think that one might just make you rage quit. lol I brought the Kolob 74760 just the other day as well and was pretty disappointed, super slow (and that's from me, somebody who likes just lumbering in Low range), hooks into the ground more I'd expect and like this Derry seemed underpowered, not P12 levels of underpowered, but still underpowered. Honestly my opinion the Navistar 5000 is still the best truck in the game if you need to haul a heavy load, with the P16 being a viable free alternative for those who don't have the season pass. Everything else so far seems to be pretty much crap.

Yeah I tried that kolob too, thought it looked awesome and would eat up terrain but same problem! Slow (which I’m not keen on but don’t mind as long as there’s some other good things to enjoy) and yeah it caught it’s chin on loads of stuff and I just don’t see the point of it! They need to up the speed of the advanced special gearbox just a bit because everything that uses them can feel a bit slow! The Navistar is a brilliant truck! It does take some money to get to fully upgraded but I’m fine with that, I liked how at the start of the game it wasn’t op easy mode (now id know how to get the Tayga within the first hour so there’s other strong choices) but I’ve also been able to upgrade along the way and it’s still a very competitive truck by the end of the game too 👍🏻! That military engine in it makes it awesome! I know you aren’t as much of a fan of speed as me but have you tried the navi in a high range gear box and drop it in high even when it’s going fairly slow with cargo, and man it takes off like a beast lol 👍🏻! I do think the Azov 5319 is bloody brilliant though and I’d take that over the navi in some off road cases but if I had to do the whole game with the Navistar then I’d be fine with that! Awesome truck and no regrets paying £1.69 for it at all! I even looked if I could buy another 😂! It wouldn’t let me lol!

I think tires work differently for all trucks just not 1, while we do have the spec sheet of how much traction we get on all the tires the trucks themselves have a handling flag in the game files, and based on those handling flags some might be slightly better at rock crawling/mudding or snow with different tires then another truck, but the combination of such complexity and high cost and time consumption is so big, that i reckon no1 would want to do it because its a "waste" of time, and i also reckon that the handling flags might add insignificant stats to be noticed by a human but with the azov 5319 and now the derry longhorn they seem to be doing pretty well in the snow... actually i would say excellent hell they both beat my voron grad, and i have been rooting for the voron grad for quite a long time now, dont get me wrong yes tayga is king but theres something about the voron grad i like more... cant put my finger on it, i do know for a fact voron grad is more modern and wastes less fuel, i also notice the voron grad can be put in high gear basically instantly as soon as you set off the tayga, you kind of hve to wait until it goes to the top of gear 1 or into gear 2 to be on high with a freeway transmission/ speedy, but anyways amazing work as usual and great info
Ernesto Chang honestly dude I appreciate your response 👍🏻! You’re exactly correct and I think there’s far more nuance than most care about! I’m not trying to claim chained is better on everything, just the last 2 trucks I’ve tested with both before starting these reviews and I got more overall from chained! I’ve even been testing the tyre types a lot (I’m one of the few stupid/stubborn enough to try lol) and after about 40 goes with each tyre (chained and mud up to now) on the Tayga on the container speed run, chained tyres with single rears, consistently get a faster time than the same Tayga with the custom muds, by about 5-10 seconds! Got 2:45 in chained, can only get about 2:50-2:55 with custom muds! And it’s because the chained dig through the deep mud and find grippier mud underneath quicker, whereas the wider custom muds have to wade through more mud and it bogs it down a bit longer! That said the custom muds improve the centre of mass by lowering it, and they widen the stance so I’d rather have muds on the Tayga! But for trying to beat my best times on that constest, I’ll take chained! I’m going to make a video explaining what I’ve found just so people know! After that it’s up to them what they want to choose 👍🏻! Yeah this Derry wasn’t bad in snow! I still don’t think it would do as good as the Vorons etc if it was towing load and I got to hills and stuff, but just going along in snow it’s about the best it performed all night 👍🏻! Haha don’t worry dude I fully understand, the Tayga is amazing but I don’t root for it like I do with some other trucks! It’s like Micheal Schumacher as I said, amazing but I don’t root for it as I prefer the underdogs! Prime example being the loaf which is nigh on unrollable, flips itself almost every time, has broken levels of winch strength (I’m sure more than the trucks lol) and it has the longest winch in the game (possibly same as other scouts)! I love it because it’s so much better than it should be! I hate this Derry because its so much worse than it should be! I have a feeling I’ll love that Voron grad and the D a lot more than the Voron AE!! I used all of them in my container tests and I did like the grad, I like the turbo whoosh it has too lol 👍🏻! I’ll get round to a review on them at some point dude
I tried the high range dude for about an hour! This truck doesn’t have the muscle to get anything from the high range! And I’m a massive fan of highrange so trust me I tried it lol! This truck doesn’t go fast even top speed, the test down the runway near the end was with the high range and it couldn’t even get into top gear for the first 2 attempts! And when it eventually did, yeah it’s not a snail, but basically every other truck that can use a high range would blow by this thing like it’s sitting still! As for just general high range gear box use, it kept stalling on me almost every time in high, even when I’m driving on a paved road, already moving at pace, and put it in high, if the road was a slight hill, this would die, downhill with the wind behind it on a paved road is about the only time it stayed in high! Even in auto, I went from a paved road to a solid dirt road and it instantly stopped and went back into 1st! It’s gutless! It needs a bigger engine like the westline! It’s currently got the royal engine apparently and that truck weighs about 5 times less than this I’d say!
In real life this truck is kinda slow as well, rated at 45mph. Also for the majority of its production it had a 2 stroke v8 Detriot 12L 8v92TA making 500hp and 1470ft lbs. One thing about those 2 stroke detriot's is they need rpm to make power compared to their 4 stroke counter parts. The old attige was to slam your hand in the door so you were good an pissed off to drive it correctly lol. As of lately they are offered with a C18 caterpiller inline 6, 18L rated at 700hp and ~2450ft lbs, which is a massive improvement. They also offer one that has 2 rear axels instead of 3, however I don't know if the military uses that variant. I feel like they based the truck in the game after the Detroit variant since it is the most common, I just wish the upgraded motor was as large of a jump in torque like you were going to the c18. It does weigh ~22000kg/45000lbs in real life though, that's more than double the typical semi tractor.

Sad too as I wanted to like it and it looks awesome like it should be king of the game! The westline engine makes the twin steer amazing when it’s not that great without it! It could make this truck so much better! As you say most if not all it’s problems would be solved 👍🏻
I love how much you love the Lo4f. Because of your praise for it I've tested it and really like it. It does struggle in heavy mud, that may be the only negative about it.
I was doing some testing with the Tayga in mud, comparing 51" MHS I, with 51" MHS I All Chains. I wanted it to be a fair test for tyre tread but the chained variant is both noticeably taller and wider. Despite that, it was immediately apparent Mudtires perform better in that scenario, as you would expect. Then I got bored. The main routes for that Container time trial are largely Dirt, not Mud, so it's no surprise you've been seeing Chained tyres take the lead there. They are typically superior on Dirt.
I know dude I wanted to love it so much but it sucks bad lol! Yeah the rear steer is amazing! It would certainly help with the faffing around if it had diffs always on, but it’s still hopelessly underpowered! Apparently it’s got the royal engine which is like 5 times lighter than this lol! I have both of the Longhorns and I have to say I like the older one a lot more then the new one, I’ve actually had the old one since I got the game and have completed every major contract that involved a heavy cargo with little to no problem.
I find the 4520 nice to drive, and I'd happily keep one around if either it cost half as much or had twice the engine power; it's main problem is that there are at least a half dozen off-road class trucks that can pull at least as well and use a variety of other attachments for a lot less money. Why would anyone spend the money on this truck when you can buy 2 of the Azovs, Vorons, Paystar etc. for roughly the same cost?

Hans Wang haha I honestly haven’t had time to just go cash them in! Although I think it’s quicker to just make more money haha! I can do the container contest in drowned lands in 2:45! So repeatably about every 3:30 and that’s for £5,600 so unless I could cash every trailer in, in less than that then it’s not worth my time haha! One day I’ll have like a spare million sat there though 👍🏻! I couldn’t get them and drive them back to the garage in 3 and a half minutes though, if I could recover with trailer then maybe! Yeah off road wise the Russian trucks or some of them at least are the best basically! But it makes sense really, in America they’d just build roads and bridges if it’s a driving route! In Russia it’s so massive and sparsely populated that it’s cheaper to just make trucks that can go off road, than to build roads everywhere that won’t get used much really! So russia has to make stuff that’s better off road! American trucks however will be so much nicer to drive and have all kinds of creature comforts and so on because that’s what the American truck market needs, so it does make sense really 👍🏻
When I finally unlocked it. I was very happy. I even saved a giant trailer mission for it. Well I had to drive it through some of the devils mud (where I'm from we call black gumbo dirt/mud devils mud because it is very thick and sticky) in Alaska. I was down right disappointed. 🤨🙄. It was a big let down. IRL it is a beast. They nerft the crap out of. What a disappointment.
Yeah same here dude I saved up and couldn’t wait! I can’t remember if I had big trailers left but I definitely had missions I was saving, and was very disappointed and sold it back after an hour or 2! Haha you know you’re not the first to call that bit the devils mud lol, I thought it was just a random funny name for it someone made but it makes sense now why I’ve heard a few say that 👍🏻! Yeah sadly it’s not great in much really! And you got “lucky” that you used it in Alaska since snow is its best terrain really! And it’s not bad on snow, it got up the snowy mountain but with cargo I highly doubt it and muddy mountains I highly doubt too! But yeah loads of stuff gets up there, even the P16 got up the snowy mountain lol so it’s nothing to brag about for the most expensive bad ass looking truck in the game! I thought it would be a king of the game type truck! For whatever reason it’s just been given way too little power and it’s barely average on a good day! I think the ZIKZ is better than this and it’s a fifth of the price 👍🏻! Hopefully they add the westline engine or something as apparently it’s currently got the royals engine which the royal weighs nothing compared to this, it needs the same engine as the twin steer and if it ever does get it I’ll review it again 👍🏻!

Honestly I think the devs were like sleeping or rushing when they make the stats for all the trucks. Things just plain don't make sense. The 4520 has "192,000" for torque with the best engine. Usually 225,000 is good for most trucks but this one needed 300,000 to really drive nice.

It’s strange how bad this truck is, I’ve had to drive up onto the back of these a few times with a tank and rode in these Oshkosh M1070 HETs and I will tell ya it hauls the 70 ton M1A2 no problem and can haul some ass with one on the trailer. I love the M1070 to much not to keep it and just keep pushing on with it even though it’s so impractical so in the end I just keep this plain desert tan tank hauler in my garage and take it out just because of the connection and love for it lol.
OshKosh probably didn’t want the general public having accurate performance information. I have personally seen them in action and they are very capable vehicles. Best known for towing the Abrams Tank. And in that configuration of towing an Abrams Tank, has a combined weight of almost 250,000 pounds.
Yeah my advise in all honesty dude is don’t rush for it as you don’t need it, but as and when you’ve got enough money, by all means get it and take it for a spin and make your own mind up if it’s worth keeping or worth selling back for now and trying some other trucks with the spare cash 👍🏻! Eventually I’ll buy it back when I’ve got enough money and own almost all other trucks lol
You might be onto something suggesting that the Derry trucks are deliberately rubbish to spite Oshkosh. That would explain why the other one is basically a paperweight.
Just something in my gut tells me they can only be this terrible on purpose 👍🏻! They should be amazing! The other Derry I actually think is very good BUT, is then basically ruined by that stupid axle and is now yeah, a paperweight too! They obviously made deals with other American companies, Oshkosh and whoever makes the ANK are about the only ones not branded (edit: with American trucks) And as Oshkosh is basically a defence contractor for the US military, I could see them getting greedy with brand rights! And then I could see the snowrunner people doing this to get them back lol! As I said I would on the condition it was a stupidly greedy offer! I’d make their trucks crap on purpose lol!
Honestly if you use Balanced gearbox in underpowered trucks, they work much better. Same goes with underpowered heavy trucks. Use Special gearbox on P12, not Advanced Special.
I think the Derry trucks suck! I sold my other one after getting frustrated with it no more than 100m from the garage. Mr. Lone Wolf...can you review the Kolob trucks?

Lil Pp if you’re ok with slow and steady then get the Azov 72131 or whatever it’s called dude it would eat this truck for breakfast 👍🏻! This truck just hasn’t got the muscle for highrange, and even in the off-road box it struggles! It’s engine is way too small! That Azov can easily handle its own size and weight, this is like trying to use a ck1500 engine to drive a Kolob or something! It’s only got the royal engine in this, and that royal weighs about 5 times less by the feel of them both! Sadly, it just sucks

This truck is the civilian version of the Oshkosh M1070. It's governed at around 45mph, weighs 55,000lb and is used mainly to transport main battle tanks like the Abrams. It's got an NBC filtration system in the cab and having driven one myself I can comfortably say that one of those vehicles would rip your house off its foundation and pull it down the street. I don't know why Snowrunner keeps putting American highway specific trucks into the game, doesn't make any sense. We don't live in a frozen tundra east of the Ural Mountains so why these vehicles are in the game is beyond me. Just wanted to clear the air on exactly what type of beast this thing actually is. It's not a Jeep or a Land Cruiser, its meant for pulling extremely heavy things from point A to B.
Actually the Derry Longhorn in SnowRunner is only based off the Oshkosh M1070 , the Derry Longhorn isn't a real truck itself. And the only two things that the M1070 does in real life is haul tanks. The reason why they added the truck into the game is because most of the maps are American , and actually we do have a frigid snowy winter.

Влад Вулкан it’s not slow and steady though and it couldn’t even haul cargo up the quarry hill, which even the cat ct680 did with broken collapsed rear suspension! It’s slow, unsteady, and unable to haul anything heavy, couldn’t even reverse its own weight up a hill!
Samuel Foster I’m a massive fan of the high range gearbox but unless you’re only road driving, it’s pointless in this, I went out for an hour or so before this vid starts and tried it in highrange , and even up hills on roads it sometimes slowed down and stalled in high! It stalled everywhere in high off road, and it can’t even move along well in auto, meaning you’ll spend most of the time in the low range with diffs on, which is why I had the low range box in because at least I’ve got 3 low options if it’s going to spend 95% of its life in them! Even in high range and off road gearboxes, it dropped back to 1st gear auto when I went from a flat straight paved road, to a flat straight solid dirt road that if anything was slightly downhill! It’s terrible and I wish it wasn’t but every other truck could blow it out the water! The 30k zikz pulled an empty semi trailer up the quarry hill easier than this could!
Yeah exactly that’s what I did dude 👍🏻! Drove it for a bit and realised how terrible it was, and how much spare cash it is and sold it straight back and onto the next trucks 👍🏻
i found out that both of the derry's are "good" convoy trucks. meaning that alone they are ok but together or with other trucks are pretty good, in my opinion
i just got this truck and i like it alot. it looks cool, got 4 wheel steering, all wheel drive (with the ones furthest back) and the horn is epic. its slow but it can pull so much heavy stuff. edit: its turning radius is very good also

I've had a moment to step away from Snowrunner for a bit (as I played and beat Days Gone without playing anything else) and have realized that Saber Interactive is to blame. They totally did a number on this truck in game because of licensing issues or whatever (speculation). But they did that at OUR expense. What a piece of crap truck! Let's just call it what it is. Especially when you see what this truck is all about in real life. Hell, it should probably be pound for pound the best truck in the game! But we get a waste of time and money instead. They owe us an engine upgrade! I mean, why even wait for level 24 for this truck anyway?
Hahaha finally someone understands my triple tree seal of approval 😂👍🏻! It’s important consumer information! If you can knock multiple trees down and keep going, there’s now ways across the maps that others can’t take 👍🏻! Saved me/ saved me enough time to get back with fuel multiple times! And I’ve genuinely failed to get back in time because of trucks that can’t do it! The Azov 5319 gets a pass, I’ve knocked all 3 down loads, I just had a crappy gear change on that one and got unlucky! This truck however, only time it did knock all 3 over haha! But it did so credit where it’s due 👍🏻
I got the truck yesterday and i gotta admit, its pretty good, front and rear steering, 4x4 capable, lots of fuel, and it looks pretty nice in my opinion........ BUT its towing capability has really let me down for right now, i feel like the wannabe derry longhorn 4520 AKA the azov 64131 is almost better i feel like, it has much better towing power and has lower fuel consumption, even if you would install the best engine for the derry longhorn it would still have worse pulling power and would be even more inefficient in fuel
Yes the off-road gearbox is better for mud and snow and literally anything that you need more torque for... But going uphill, through dirt, bouncing along the rocks... The high range gearbox will be better
I mean derry longhorns and kolobs are slow super heavy hauler and its nice when kolobs also got some love 😂 The one with the famous long chin and other with problematic bumber lol
I've just tried the Derry and feel the same as Lone Wolf. I've had the long nose Kolob for ages and it is good but slow - I'm trying the other Kolob next. I know the bumper is too low, but I like the way it looks.

I agree with you that it seems the devs are hazing OshKosh for some reason. Maybe they were so bad to work with that they decided to slate them in the game by under powering this truck. It makes no sense otherwise. Unless they really don't want any American truck to be a game killer and only want the Russian trucks to have that pedigree?
It’s honestly not worth it now dude until/unless they put a decent engine in! Apparently it’s got the same as the royal which is a tiny truck by comparison! When you’re level 14, I’d say get the Azov 5319 thing, it would eat this truck for breakfast on just about every level
Well I’ve got 2 main winches across 5 of them lol, personally I prefer the advanced scout, not ever needed to try other scouts winches but I assume they’re all as strong, but yeah it has never failed to flip anything in terms of winch strength! Sometimes I need to wedge it behind a truck or tree but never failed! The other I use is the autonomous winch, don’t like the lack of pulling power but it works when rolled, so if I take a pair of loafs off to the middle of nowhere, 1 with advanced, 1 with autonomous, it’s basically impossible not to get where you’re going first time 👍🏻! Would probably work with most scouts in twos but the loaf is insanely hard to flip, tiny enough to get through narrow gaps etc, lands on its wheels 99.9% of the time and can flick itself up off its side so yeah I just have loads of them lol 👍🏻!

I know dude but I did say I just cut a load of footage out for time, when I got there I did the exact same pattern I did with the chained tyres, into high low diffs on, eventually got stuck, did low low, medium low, high low, auto, high, back to low medium diffs on, then tried it with diffs off to see if some wheels could catch anything and that’s most likely the part I left in! If there was any difference I’d have left both clips in but they were identical and yeah the video was dragging due to this things lack of speed as it is lol 👍🏻
Rafael Satiro Soares honestly dude I wish it was better, I wanted it to be, I wanted to be kind to it and say it was great, but it’s just not, it’s far too underpowered! Apparently it’s got 195,000 “torques” in the game so not ft/lb or whatever, just 195,000 snowrunner game torque, and someone told me it drives more like it should when they upped it to 330,000 I think so I wasn’t far off with it needing about 70% more power for it to be what you’d expect sadly! Hopefully they add the westline engine or something soon 👍🏻
what's the point of testing such heavy haulers, which got the two saddles option only, without a semitrailer? It's their only application so it must affect the ride pretty damn high. And I'm not talking about the Quarry test.
It’s not really a heavy hauler though, can barely get itself up a hill, loads of stuff can have the high saddle so it’s not special, just less practical as it can’t have all the other stuff! And along flat ground I’m sure it’s fine towing heavy trailers! But I did the tests in the quarry! I don’t care if you’re not talking about the quarry tests lol they’re in the video and that’s how well or not well it handles cargo! Worse than almost every other truck in the game! Even the ZIKZ got up that hill better with an empty trailer! And that costs £30k! Not £146k! It’s gutless and does nothing that cheaper better faster more well equipped trucks can’t do

On the tyre points with/without chains a number of people have pulled out of the game files the real tyre values rather than poor, good, excellent, and the game files infer that chains just set a flag to say ignore any ice conditions. I bought this yesterday - epic horn, love the 4WS, looks good, nice big tank. Seems a bit gutless somehow though for a heavy hauler. This is my opinion before watching your video.

Agree with you mate. I think the truck was underrepresented. I loved it the minute I saw it in game (haven’t even unlocked it yet) but looked it up online and by all reports and stats it seems an ABSOLUTE beast of a truck. So to see what it is in game, sad. There even a video on youtube of it blazing up a muddy trail with a loaded trailer of logs.
Yeah, it all comes down to the fact that the best engine it can use is the one that the Freightliner M916A1, Royal BM-17 and Cat CT680 also use. It's a good engine for those lighter trucks, but for the DL 4520 you'd definitely need something with quite a bit more oomph.

It’s way too gutless, and that basically makes it terrible at most things sadly! There’s just nothing (expect steering) that it does better or even as good as other stuff that’s much cheaper! The off road dolphin Azov 5319 would absolutely destroy this truck in every way except turning! Some would say fuel is great on it but it drinks the same as the Azov, just has a tank twice the size, however, it moves at half the speed if that so you may get twice as long in it, but I doubt you’ll be any further ahead of the Azov in that twice as long! It needs a much bigger engine 👍🏻
Shizanketsuga Jesus I never knew it had the bloody royal and cat engine lol! That explains a lot!! Those trucks weight about a 5th of this truck it feels like! Damn yeah why hasn’t it got the westline or something meaty lol! The westline makes the twin steer amazing! If the twin had the royal engine it would be crap! Maybe they’ll add another engine at some point! It certainly needs it to become not just competitive, (not bothered if some trucks are worse but I do when they’re twice as bad for double the price lol) but just useful and enjoyable to drive and play around with! I bloody love the loaf so clearly speed and heavy cargo hauling aren’t my only requirements but yeah the loaf would eat this truck for breakfast lol! After it rescues it no doubt haha 👍🏻
@@itsmrlonewolf I was a bit surprised about that as well. The other surprise was seeing that the ANK shares its best engine with both Pacifics and the other Derry Longhorn. (I made an Excel sheet for myself to see what I can work with regarding engines, addons and stuff like that.)
You don't see anything like that on the Russian side. All the Russian heavies share one beastly engine that you probably wouldn't dare build into anything smaller. (Although I would dare them to put one of them into a Lo4F.)
I hope they give some of the trucks a bit of love in the shape of future upgrades like better engines for the Derry Longhorns, lift kits for the Kolob 74760 and the Azov 73210 and so on.

Yeah a few of the American trucks need some more love with engines! The Russian engines are great really and is rarely a problem! The kolobs are a bit fat and slow but not to this Derry’s degree I don’t think! They definitely need lift kits on the kolobs though yeah the 747 one catches far too much for its size
I personally love this truck for getting through mud in Michigan. The one thing that really bugs me is that they didn't include the spare tire but included the gaping hole where it's supposed to go.

Have you tried the Azov 5319 though, it blows through the Michigan mud faster than this thing can fly off a cliff! I reviewed the Azov yesterday and if you just look at the first mud bit after I leave the garage, it nails the mud! For much less cost than this thing! But again I’m actually glad someone’s enjoying it lol 👍🏻! It does need a much bigger engine though like the westline! It’s currently got the same engine as the royal apparently which is a way lighter truck

That's why chains have the same treads, they are specific ones in the set with chains added on.
Yeah exactly dude but I swear I’ve tried muds vs chained on loads of trucks and they honestly feel identical, expect the chained are better at biting down in deeper grippier mud, and have better grip on rocks etc! I’ve even done the container speed run in drowned lands now about 250 times and about 40 each of those was just testing chained vs the custom muds on the Tayga, and I promise you the chained single rears consistently get faster times by about 5-10 seconds over the custom mud tyres! Because those muds are so wide they have to wade through thick mud and don’t like it as much, the chained just cut through and bite down on the deep mud where there’s more grip and motors through quicker! And I still prefer the muds on the Tayga so I’m not anti muds at all! But for these tests I’d like to stick to 1 tyre if I can so it’s a level playing field and yeah chained have never ever let me down! I’d rather get caught out on russia with chained than Alaska with muds! In case I forget to change them straight away! Just my opinions and feelings though dude 👍🏻

Even been trying tire tests myself, and there is definitely something better going on, with the chains. Not as fast in mud, but consistent.
Ltgaigley yeah same here dude I used to only put muds on stuff that could, (unless I forgot after chained in Alaska) but yeah just a feeling I’ve got that there’s not much need at least to switch back to muds like it’s going to change the truck! But not tried ever truck like that so not saying for all but so far the trucks I have tried it seems chained are fine 👍🏻!
Yeah they just don’t feel worse than muds like you’d expect, but better in some other areas! Personally I can’t feel any difference in mud with either! Not saying there’s not, you may well be correct, but I’d at least say while flying along with the Azov 5319 for example, I wouldn’t notice between chained and mud through mud, as long as they both stay in high range gear and keep going then I probably wouldn’t even pay enough attention! But on that timed event chained are surprisingly faster which is odd because it’s a mud map!?

I love this truck, once aware of it's limitations I have used it plenty for getting trailers to places I wanted to get to in one go with no drama. It's got a huge fuel tank, doesn't fall over all the time and the turning circle is amazing. I've used it for some of the mega trailer missions too, no issues - mainly because it was all on roads not up mountains. As you've stated quite correctly before, each truck has strengths and weaknesses. It's no Lo4f though. I spent a few hours watching videos on the real life Lo4f last night - the UAZ Buhanka. Due to a typo I ended up watching a room full of men and a young lady for a while but I digress. Should I win the lottery I'd get a real one for sure, they look amazing! Another great test, can't disagree with anything you have said, I just for some reason have a soft spot for this truck. The only truck in this game I really don't see the point of is the Azov 10 wheeler with the Jimmy Hill chin and front suspension made from cheese. Not even good cheese, Kwik Save no frills cheese. Some springs and a lift kit would make it way OP though I guess as it can have a crane, a flatbed and tow a trailer.
I honestly wanted to love it so much, when I even look at it, “America, fuck yeah” plays in my head lol! It’s just been sabotaged by a poor engine choice! Apparently it’s got the same engine in it as the royal which is insane! This thing weighs so much more than the royal! If it had the westline engine from the twin steer I think it would be so much better! If they change the engine to a good one I will even review it again because I want it to be good lol! Yeah I have no doubt that along roads or just generally nothing too steep, it would tow massive trailers, I bet it didn’t even feel like it was towing something! The level ground muscle of this is more than acceptable! But it’s trying to fight it’s own immense weight up hills and it doesn’t like it! Haha it’s definitely no loaf 👍🏻!!

You know what I’ve done the same thing dude and I said the exact same thing to myself, if I ever win the lottery I’m getting one of these! I’m even going to say just that when I do the loaf review! I watched some called the UAZ 452 I think which I think is the same thing anyway and yeah it’s crazy! You know what I’ll leave you a link of this crazy Russian trucks video and honestly it’s crazy! After the first 10 seconds or so the video slows a bit as the first truck has multiple attempts but honestly from about 3 minutes to 11 minutes, some of the stuff would make people watching get sweaty palms! How no one died I don’t know! And the orange truck at around 9 minutes, holy crap I thought he was a full on gonner! How he kept that I don’t know! Obviously his enormous balls weighed down the truck lol!
Yeah that 10 wheeler is just not worth the hassle! I like that it has rear steer but so does this Derry and I’d actually rather this Derry lol!

The truck is plenty powerful, but it's probably one of the heaviest in the game. And this game seems to have issues with the weight physics anyways, esp with fuel (liquid simulation has always been a pain in the ass with havok). These trucks are designed to be able to basically be dropped, have boulders fall on them, survive small explosions etc. It's like a tank on wheels. It's an armored truck, basically just a military tractor and all US military vehicles are damned snails. It does seem like they hit it with a nerf bat a bit.
Yeah the thing is someone else said that it’s got the same engine in this game as the royal and cat ct680 lol, which is way too gutless for this! I’m sure in real life it has a bigger engine than those trucks, or at least a tuned version! To be fair it is strong, but the Azov 5319 is bullet proof so again I can get that elsewhere! And even the speed, the Azov 72131 or whatever it’s called, the big red one, goes very slow as it has the advanced special gearbox, but it’s more than capable with its own dimensions and weight so it feels 10 times better!
This thing feels gutless to the point it would stall going into high range in a high range gearbox, either up hill on a road, or just anywhere that wasn’t a road! And if all that meant it could haul tank weight up hills etc then it would be cool, but it couldn’t even get cargo up the first part of the quarry! Even the cat ct680 with broken rear suspension walked up there! Even when the cargo was unpacked so weightless, it got up but it struggled! Even the £30k ZIKZ walked that hill with an empty trailer! There’s just nothing it does, that loads of other stuff does as good or better, for half the money or less! The steering is awesome! And the fuel tank is big, however it’s so slow that you may get to spend twice as long in it between fill ups, but I doubt you’d be any further along than the Azov 5319 even though that has half the fuel capacity and is renowned as a bad on fuel truck! Along roads yeah it would get further! But off roading I think the Azov would go twice as fast and run out of fuel twice as fast so you’d still get to the same place, just faster lol!
I think they’ve either done it on purpose to annoy Oshkosh for maybe being greedy with licensing, or they just haven’t gave it a decent engine! It needs the westline engine 👍🏻
Offroad dolphins are great. That red thing I use with the red box and it's for super remote rescue because It's so big and slow I don't think it is ever possible to get it stuck. Plus it's paint scheme matches that stupid box. To me it looks like an airplane service truck. I keep it around because I like red trucks lol.
@@itsmrlonewolf It might also just be simming the US military engine specs in game, which is a detroit 6 cylinder diesel. This is the fuel sipper that can idle for like 3 days that they use in most US military big vehicles. This version is usually deployed to desert or city regions, it doesn't damage roads since it spreads weight. For afghanistan where it was mountainous they used one with the cat engine. It's possible the programmers are just working off data sheets and plugging HP and Torque numbers in for each truck based off spreadsheets and fact sheets. The fact that the trucks now use a more powerful engine for hills and mud and stuff might not have occurred to them. The detroit engine the normal sepc'd one uses only has 500 hp but 1500 ft lbs of tq. The Cat engine is 700+ hp and 3000+ ft lbs. I doubt the licensing has anything to do with it, as Oshkosh is a govt contractor, and it's nearly impossible to get licensing with a US govt contractor, so I doubt they even asked. Devs prob just thought it was a cool, unique truck. Even tho it was only ever designed to tow the abrams in the desert. I hear it's a beast on sand.. We don't have any sand maps tho. Lot of career Military Truck mechanics in my family. We are all mechanics actually. Step dad is a truck driver, but dad's side is all types of mechanics.
Flight sims get away with licenses because plane manufacturers are private companies who SELL to the us govt (and all govts, even non allies can buy our planes). They get contracts, but R&D is internal. Only actual production is funded federally. Ground vehicles don't really work like this. Only way you can get US GOVT ground vehicles is either surplus (and even then it's nearly impossible to get a title for them and drive legally) or if you are another country and make a deal with our govt.
This is possible because weapons and armor systems are reconfigurable on planes, but ground vehicles use US developed weapons and are designed around them. Planes you just change the mounts. Even a private citizen can order a warplane sans weapons and armor systems if they are rich enough. I think only some dubai business men have tho.
I was so excited buying this truck for the first time and I did a few missions with it and just came across problems after problems after yes you guessed it problems so ended up driving it off the cliff by the airport and left it there.

Since everyones talking about bread vans, might as well mention the fact the left or right wheel can actually lift up when you turn at speed on the loaf and to make that wheel lift even higher use emils loaf mod and put the stage 7 engine in it

You won’t regret it dude there’s so many other better trucks. The Azov 5319 alone is £65k cheaper and is faster, tougher, can haul better, the Azov 5319 is better in every way except fuel tank size and no rear steer! 👍🏻
The only difference between mud and chained tires is that the chained ones negate the "slippery" stat of snow and ice. They will perform identically outside of snow and ice given the same base tire.

Yes, I’d be driving this thing twice as long before I run out, but doesn’t mean I’d be twice as far lol! The opposite in fact! You’ll love the dolphin it’s a bloody brilliant truck! I reckon you're bang-on about the middle finger to Oshkosh haha. when a game makes something awesome, it definitely makes you like the item more and vice versa... after playing Division 2, all I wanted was M1A1 Socom, and I don't even hunt or can get a weapon like that, because Australia has appropriate gun control
I find with tires there comes a point of diminishing returns when weight of the vehicle is taken into consideration. Because Chained are OK in mud, with added weight of truck they will always do well. But when you're in one of the lighter scouts tire choice is even more important and benefit more from mud tires in mud vs chained.
You know as bad as this thing is, the P12 is still worse. I can't wait for you to review that truck, I think that one might just make you rage quit. lol
I brought the Kolob 74760 just the other day as well and was pretty disappointed, super slow (and that's from me, somebody who likes just lumbering in Low range), hooks into the ground more I'd expect and like this Derry seemed underpowered, not P12 levels of underpowered, but still underpowered.
Honestly my opinion the Navistar 5000 is still the best truck in the game if you need to haul a heavy load, with the P16 being a viable free alternative for those who don't have the season pass. Everything else so far seems to be pretty much crap.

Yeah I tried that kolob too, thought it looked awesome and would eat up terrain but same problem! Slow (which I’m not keen on but don’t mind as long as there’s some other good things to enjoy) and yeah it caught it’s chin on loads of stuff and I just don’t see the point of it! They need to up the speed of the advanced special gearbox just a bit because everything that uses them can feel a bit slow!
The Navistar is a brilliant truck! It does take some money to get to fully upgraded but I’m fine with that, I liked how at the start of the game it wasn’t op easy mode (now id know how to get the Tayga within the first hour so there’s other strong choices) but I’ve also been able to upgrade along the way and it’s still a very competitive truck by the end of the game too 👍🏻! That military engine in it makes it awesome! I know you aren’t as much of a fan of speed as me but have you tried the navi in a high range gear box and drop it in high even when it’s going fairly slow with cargo, and man it takes off like a beast lol 👍🏻! I do think the Azov 5319 is bloody brilliant though and I’d take that over the navi in some off road cases but if I had to do the whole game with the Navistar then I’d be fine with that! Awesome truck and no regrets paying £1.69 for it at all! I even looked if I could buy another 😂! It wouldn’t let me lol!

I think tires work differently for all trucks just not 1, while we do have the spec sheet of how much traction we get on all the tires the trucks themselves have a handling flag in the game files, and based on those handling flags some might be slightly better at rock crawling/mudding or snow with different tires then another truck, but the combination of such complexity and high cost and time consumption is so big, that i reckon no1 would want to do it because its a "waste" of time, and i also reckon that the handling flags might add insignificant stats to be noticed by a human but with the azov 5319 and now the derry longhorn they seem to be doing pretty well in the snow... actually i would say excellent hell they both beat my voron grad, and i have been rooting for the voron grad for quite a long time now, dont get me wrong yes tayga is king but theres something about the voron grad i like more... cant put my finger on it, i do know for a fact voron grad is more modern and wastes less fuel, i also notice the voron grad can be put in high gear basically instantly as soon as you set off the tayga, you kind of hve to wait until it goes to the top of gear 1 or into gear 2 to be on high with a freeway transmission/ speedy, but anyways amazing work as usual and great info

I’m not trying to claim chained is better on everything, just the last 2 trucks I’ve tested with both before starting these reviews and I got more overall from chained!
I’ve even been testing the tyre types a lot (I’m one of the few stupid/stubborn enough to try lol) and after about 40 goes with each tyre (chained and mud up to now) on the Tayga on the container speed run, chained tyres with single rears, consistently get a faster time than the same Tayga with the custom muds, by about 5-10 seconds! Got 2:45 in chained, can only get about 2:50-2:55 with custom muds! And it’s because the chained dig through the deep mud and find grippier mud underneath quicker, whereas the wider custom muds have to wade through more mud and it bogs it down a bit longer! That said the custom muds improve the centre of mass by lowering it, and they widen the stance so I’d rather have muds on the Tayga! But for trying to beat my best times on that constest, I’ll take chained! I’m going to make a video explaining what I’ve found just so people know! After that it’s up to them what they want to choose 👍🏻!
Yeah this Derry wasn’t bad in snow! I still don’t think it would do as good as the Vorons etc if it was towing load and I got to hills and stuff, but just going along in snow it’s about the best it performed all night 👍🏻!
Haha don’t worry dude I fully understand, the Tayga is amazing but I don’t root for it like I do with some other trucks! It’s like Micheal Schumacher as I said, amazing but I don’t root for it as I prefer the underdogs! Prime example being the loaf which is nigh on unrollable, flips itself almost every time, has broken levels of winch strength (I’m sure more than the trucks lol) and it has the longest winch in the game (possibly same as other scouts)! I love it because it’s so much better than it should be! I hate this Derry because its so much worse than it should be!
I have a feeling I’ll love that Voron grad and the D a lot more than the Voron AE!! I used all of them in my container tests and I did like the grad, I like the turbo whoosh it has too lol 👍🏻! I’ll get round to a review on them at some point dude

Don't underestimate the highrange gearbox. The H gear has you driving in lightspeed provided you're not wading in mud
I tried the high range dude for about an hour! This truck doesn’t have the muscle to get anything from the high range! And I’m a massive fan of highrange so trust me I tried it lol! This truck doesn’t go fast even top speed, the test down the runway near the end was with the high range and it couldn’t even get into top gear for the first 2 attempts! And when it eventually did, yeah it’s not a snail, but basically every other truck that can use a high range would blow by this thing like it’s sitting still!
As for just general high range gear box use, it kept stalling on me almost every time in high, even when I’m driving on a paved road, already moving at pace, and put it in high, if the road was a slight hill, this would die, downhill with the wind behind it on a paved road is about the only time it stayed in high! Even in auto, I went from a paved road to a solid dirt road and it instantly stopped and went back into 1st! It’s gutless! It needs a bigger engine like the westline! It’s currently got the royal engine apparently and that truck weighs about 5 times less than this I’d say!
In real life this truck is kinda slow as well, rated at 45mph. Also for the majority of its production it had a 2 stroke v8 Detriot 12L 8v92TA making 500hp and 1470ft lbs. One thing about those 2 stroke detriot's is they need rpm to make power compared to their 4 stroke counter parts. The old attige was to slam your hand in the door so you were good an pissed off to drive it correctly lol. As of lately they are offered with a C18 caterpiller inline 6, 18L rated at 700hp and ~2450ft lbs, which is a massive improvement. They also offer one that has 2 rear axels instead of 3, however I don't know if the military uses that variant. I feel like they based the truck in the game after the Detroit variant since it is the most common, I just wish the upgraded motor was as large of a jump in torque like you were going to the c18. It does weigh ~22000kg/45000lbs in real life though, that's more than double the typical semi tractor.
If they made it possible to put in the westline v12/v16, I think most problems would be solved with this truck.

I love how much you love the Lo4f. Because of your praise for it I've tested it and really like it. It does struggle in heavy mud, that may be the only negative about it.
I was doing some testing with the Tayga in mud, comparing 51" MHS I, with 51" MHS I All Chains. I wanted it to be a fair test for tyre tread but the chained variant is both noticeably taller and wider. Despite that, it was immediately apparent Mudtires perform better in that scenario, as you would expect. Then I got bored.
The main routes for that Container time trial are largely Dirt, not Mud, so it's no surprise you've been seeing Chained tyres take the lead there. They are typically superior on Dirt.

I have both of the Longhorns and I have to say I like the older one a lot more then the new one, I’ve actually had the old one since I got the game and have completed every major contract that involved a heavy cargo with little to no problem.
I find the 4520 nice to drive, and I'd happily keep one around if either it cost half as much or had twice the engine power; it's main problem is that there are at least a half dozen off-road class trucks that can pull at least as well and use a variety of other attachments for a lot less money. Why would anyone spend the money on this truck when you can buy 2 of the Azovs, Vorons, Paystar etc. for roughly the same cost?

Hans Wang haha I honestly haven’t had time to just go cash them in! Although I think it’s quicker to just make more money haha! I can do the container contest in drowned lands in 2:45! So repeatably about every 3:30 and that’s for £5,600 so unless I could cash every trailer in, in less than that then it’s not worth my time haha! One day I’ll have like a spare million sat there though 👍🏻! I couldn’t get them and drive them back to the garage in 3 and a half minutes though, if I could recover with trailer then maybe!
Yeah off road wise the Russian trucks or some of them at least are the best basically! But it makes sense really, in America they’d just build roads and bridges if it’s a driving route! In Russia it’s so massive and sparsely populated that it’s cheaper to just make trucks that can go off road, than to build roads everywhere that won’t get used much really! So russia has to make stuff that’s better off road! American trucks however will be so much nicer to drive and have all kinds of creature comforts and so on because that’s what the American truck market needs, so it does make sense really 👍🏻

When I finally unlocked it. I was very happy. I even saved a giant trailer mission for it. Well I had to drive it through some of the devils mud (where I'm from we call black gumbo dirt/mud devils mud because it is very thick and sticky) in Alaska. I was down right disappointed. 🤨🙄. It was a big let down. IRL it is a beast. They nerft the crap out of. What a disappointment.

Honestly I think the devs were like sleeping or rushing when they make the stats for all the trucks. Things just plain don't make sense. The 4520 has "192,000" for torque with the best engine. Usually 225,000 is good for most trucks but this one needed 300,000 to really drive nice.

Yeah something isn’t right! As I said I reckon it’s so bad it was 2 fingers up to Oshkosh lol but obviously I can’t tell that! But something isn’t right! Someone said this has the same engine as the royal apparently, which if it does that doesn’t help, the royal weighs nothing compared to this, it needs the westline from the twin steer 👍🏻! Haha well that makes a lot of sense! So I wasn’t too far off guessing about 70% more power would be nice! It’s definitely way underpowered right now! If they put the westline in I’ll review it again when it’s working like it should! I wanted to love it, it looks bad ass and should be contender for king of the game! But sadly it’s not!

I was very excited for this truck but it was very dissappointing when I was doing heavy hauling in deep mud with it.
It’s strange how bad this truck is, I’ve had to drive up onto the back of these a few times with a tank and rode in these Oshkosh M1070 HETs and I will tell ya it hauls the 70 ton M1A2 no problem and can haul some ass with one on the trailer. I love the M1070 to much not to keep it and just keep pushing on with it even though it’s so impractical so in the end I just keep this plain desert tan tank hauler in my garage and take it out just because of the connection and love for it lol.
OshKosh probably didn’t want the general public having accurate performance information. I have personally seen them in action and they are very capable vehicles. Best known for towing the Abrams Tank. And in that configuration of towing an Abrams Tank, has a combined weight of almost 250,000 pounds.

Yeah my advise in all honesty dude is don’t rush for it as you don’t need it, but as and when you’ve got enough money, by all means get it and take it for a spin and make your own mind up if it’s worth keeping or worth selling back for now and trying some other trucks with the spare cash 👍🏻! Eventually I’ll buy it back when I’ve got enough money and own almost all other trucks lol
You might be onto something suggesting that the Derry trucks are deliberately rubbish to spite Oshkosh. That would explain why the other one is basically a paperweight.
Just something in my gut tells me they can only be this terrible on purpose 👍🏻! They should be amazing! The other Derry I actually think is very good BUT, is then basically ruined by that stupid axle and is now yeah, a paperweight too! They obviously made deals with other American companies, Oshkosh and whoever makes the ANK are about the only ones not branded (edit: with American trucks) And as Oshkosh is basically a defence contractor for the US military, I could see them getting greedy with brand rights! And then I could see the snowrunner people doing this to get them back lol! As I said I would on the condition it was a stupidly greedy offer! I’d make their trucks crap on purpose lol!
Honestly if you use Balanced gearbox in underpowered trucks, they work much better. Same goes with underpowered heavy trucks. Use Special gearbox on P12, not Advanced Special.
I think the Derry trucks suck! I sold my other one after getting frustrated with it no more than 100m from the garage.

Well actually I think the other Derry is a bloody nice truck and way better than this, however that one suffers with that stupid extra pointless axle that catches too much stuff, but if you could remove that axle then the other Derry would kick this ones arse! It’s just way too underpowered sadly!

This truck just hasn’t got the muscle for highrange, and even in the off-road box it struggles! It’s engine is way too small! That Azov can easily handle its own size and weight, this is like trying to use a ck1500 engine to drive a Kolob or something! It’s only got the royal engine in this, and that royal weighs about 5 times less by the feel of them both! Sadly, it just sucks

Yeah but it goes so slow it doesn’t really help much! On roads yeah you’d get further! But as it’s so slow I bet off road, I could get just as far with the Azov 5319 with its tiny fuel tank because I’d be going twice as fast! They both use about the same but the Azov flies compared to this

This truck is the civilian version of the Oshkosh M1070. It's governed at around 45mph, weighs 55,000lb and is used mainly to transport main battle tanks like the Abrams. It's got an NBC filtration system in the cab and having driven one myself I can comfortably say that one of those vehicles would rip your house off its foundation and pull it down the street. I don't know why Snowrunner keeps putting American highway specific trucks into the game, doesn't make any sense. We don't live in a frozen tundra east of the Ural Mountains so why these vehicles are in the game is beyond me.
Just wanted to clear the air on exactly what type of beast this thing actually is. It's not a Jeep or a Land Cruiser, its meant for pulling extremely heavy things from point A to B.
Actually the Derry Longhorn in SnowRunner is only based off the Oshkosh M1070 , the Derry Longhorn isn't a real truck itself.
And the only two things that the M1070 does in real life is haul tanks.
The reason why they added the truck into the game is because most of the maps are American , and actually we do have a frigid snowy winter.

Yeah it’s a terrible truck! I could live with the lack of speed if it had hauling power and some guts to it but it really hasn’t! It’s got the royal engine which the royal weights about 5 times less it feels! It needs the westline engine 👍🏻
Влад Вулкан it’s not slow and steady though and it couldn’t even haul cargo up the quarry hill, which even the cat ct680 did with broken collapsed rear suspension! It’s slow, unsteady, and unable to haul anything heavy, couldn’t even reverse its own weight up a hill!
Samuel Foster I’m a massive fan of the high range gearbox but unless you’re only road driving, it’s pointless in this, I went out for an hour or so before this vid starts and tried it in highrange , and even up hills on roads it sometimes slowed down and stalled in high! It stalled everywhere in high off road, and it can’t even move along well in auto, meaning you’ll spend most of the time in the low range with diffs on, which is why I had the low range box in because at least I’ve got 3 low options if it’s going to spend 95% of its life in them!
Even in high range and off road gearboxes, it dropped back to 1st gear auto when I went from a flat straight paved road, to a flat straight solid dirt road that if anything was slightly downhill! It’s terrible and I wish it wasn’t but every other truck could blow it out the water! The 30k zikz pulled an empty semi trailer up the quarry hill easier than this could!
This truck is only worth a buy than sell mainly for own all vehicle's trophy
Yeah exactly that’s what I did dude 👍🏻! Drove it for a bit and realised how terrible it was, and how much spare cash it is and sold it straight back and onto the next trucks 👍🏻
i found out that both of the derry's are "good" convoy trucks. meaning that alone they are ok but together or with other trucks are pretty good, in my opinion
i just got this truck and i like it alot.
it looks cool, got 4 wheel steering, all wheel drive (with the ones furthest back) and the horn is epic. its slow but it can pull so much heavy stuff.
edit: its turning radius is very good also
If you leave saddle off you get whatever you need with any trailer you need. Don’t know if it saves money though

I've had a moment to step away from Snowrunner for a bit (as I played and beat Days Gone without playing anything else) and have realized that Saber Interactive is to blame. They totally did a number on this truck in game because of licensing issues or whatever (speculation). But they did that at OUR expense. What a piece of crap truck! Let's just call it what it is. Especially when you see what this truck is all about in real life. Hell, it should probably be pound for pound the best truck in the game! But we get a waste of time and money instead. They owe us an engine upgrade! I mean, why even wait for level 24 for this truck anyway?

Hahaha finally someone understands my triple tree seal of approval 😂👍🏻! It’s important consumer information! If you can knock multiple trees down and keep going, there’s now ways across the maps that others can’t take 👍🏻! Saved me/ saved me enough time to get back with fuel multiple times! And I’ve genuinely failed to get back in time because of trucks that can’t do it! The Azov 5319 gets a pass, I’ve knocked all 3 down loads, I just had a crappy gear change on that one and got unlucky!
This truck however, only time it did knock all 3 over haha! But it did so credit where it’s due 👍🏻
I got the truck yesterday and i gotta admit, its pretty good, front and rear steering, 4x4 capable, lots of fuel, and it looks pretty nice in my opinion........ BUT its towing capability has really let me down for right now, i feel like the wannabe derry longhorn 4520 AKA the azov 64131 is almost better i feel like, it has much better towing power and has lower fuel consumption, even if you would install the best engine for the derry longhorn it would still have worse pulling power and would be even more inefficient in fuel

Yes the off-road gearbox is better for mud and snow and literally anything that you need more torque for... But going uphill, through dirt, bouncing along the rocks... The high range gearbox will be better

I've just tried the Derry and feel the same as Lone Wolf. I've had the long nose Kolob for ages and it is good but slow - I'm trying the other Kolob next. I know the bumper is too low, but I like the way it looks.

I agree with you that it seems the devs are hazing OshKosh for some reason. Maybe they were so bad to work with that they decided to slate them in the game by under powering this truck. It makes no sense otherwise. Unless they really don't want any American truck to be a game killer and only want the Russian trucks to have that pedigree?

What winch do you use for the loaf?
Well I’ve got 2 main winches across 5 of them lol, personally I prefer the advanced scout, not ever needed to try other scouts winches but I assume they’re all as strong, but yeah it has never failed to flip anything in terms of winch strength! Sometimes I need to wedge it behind a truck or tree but never failed! The other I use is the autonomous winch, don’t like the lack of pulling power but it works when rolled, so if I take a pair of loafs off to the middle of nowhere, 1 with advanced, 1 with autonomous, it’s basically impossible not to get where you’re going first time 👍🏻! Would probably work with most scouts in twos but the loaf is insanely hard to flip, tiny enough to get through narrow gaps etc, lands on its wheels 99.9% of the time and can flick itself up off its side so yeah I just have loads of them lol 👍🏻!

I know dude but I did say I just cut a load of footage out for time, when I got there I did the exact same pattern I did with the chained tyres, into high low diffs on, eventually got stuck, did low low, medium low, high low, auto, high, back to low medium diffs on, then tried it with diffs off to see if some wheels could catch anything and that’s most likely the part I left in! If there was any difference I’d have left both clips in but they were identical and yeah the video was dragging due to this things lack of speed as it is lol 👍🏻

Apparently it’s got 195,000 “torques” in the game so not ft/lb or whatever, just 195,000 snowrunner game torque, and someone told me it drives more like it should when they upped it to 330,000 I think so I wasn’t far off with it needing about 70% more power for it to be what you’d expect sadly! Hopefully they add the westline engine or something soon 👍🏻

what's the point of testing such heavy haulers, which got the two saddles option only, without a semitrailer? It's their only application so it must affect the ride pretty damn high. And I'm not talking about the Quarry test.
It’s not really a heavy hauler though, can barely get itself up a hill, loads of stuff can have the high saddle so it’s not special, just less practical as it can’t have all the other stuff! And along flat ground I’m sure it’s fine towing heavy trailers! But I did the tests in the quarry! I don’t care if you’re not talking about the quarry tests lol they’re in the video and that’s how well or not well it handles cargo! Worse than almost every other truck in the game! Even the ZIKZ got up that hill better with an empty trailer! And that costs £30k! Not £146k! It’s gutless and does nothing that cheaper better faster more well equipped trucks can’t do

On the tyre points with/without chains a number of people have pulled out of the game files the real tyre values rather than poor, good, excellent, and the game files infer that chains just set a flag to say ignore any ice conditions.
