Do you get much swarming with a flow hive?

Hi Vanessa. Yes - it can be tricky for bees with swarming in a flow hive as they are limited for space. I would 100% order an extra brood box for them. it reduces honey crop but reduces the chance of swarming significantly

Hi Lawrence, it seems to be working now. OK my question is about vaping for varroa, I have seen you can buy a powder or a liquid but which is the best and do you add anything to the powder ie water ?

Hi Jason. For vaping with OA you need the powder form. If inside the UK the only legal form is ApiBioxal for vaping. If outside the UK, you can use pure 99%+ Oxalic Acid Powder, or granules. Nothing is added and it should be kept as dry as possible. Sublimation turns it from a solid state into a gaseous sate instantaneously.

Get a positive ID that the larvae is still in the jelly and not fallen from the pool.

I dont do that if its in the months late april to late June. If a colony that i rate swarms i use the qc’s to make multiple splits. If i dont rate the colony then i do an artificial swarm, all qc’s are trashed, i intro a frame of eggs from a rated colony into the queenless split. The frame is marked. Any qcs on other frames are destroyed. All qc’s on my marked frame are used, cut out, put into 2/3 frame colonies made up just for the occasion using 2 further colonies. Sometimes i will use nicot hair curlers and cage the cells. Particularly if the qcs come from a starred colony. Then i dont have any qc losses by destruction.
I dont expect 100% success, so non emerged or not mated i break up the colony to the benefit of other successful. I dont restock or reuse or give it a second qc intro.

Well there you go. I left 2 cells. And they swarmed. Your video was 2 weeks too late :/
