  • Part 7 of the tutorial series on how to use SunVox. This one talks about using the Sampler to play back a drum loop, and time-stretch it to fit the song's tempo.
    P.S. Sorry about the audio quality and skipping - if anyone has any suggestions for help in this regard, I'll be glad to hear them.

    I think that to make a perfect sync, you should put 8000 on line 16 (which is where you'd want the sample end), then select lines 0-16 and select interpolate ctrl values. This gives you 0000, 0800, 1000, 1800... 7800 on lines 0-15. Then copy line 0-15 to 16-31 to get two bars.

      yeah, that's a slightly quicker way of doing it. But it's helpful to know how to do it the slower way, in case you want your sample/drum break to play over the entire bar.

    I've been using Sunvox on and off for a few years now, and have just gotten back into it with a vengeance! This tutorial is a great recap of what I wanted to know, and greatly appreciated :) Thanks Solar Lune, and all the best!!

    Another great tutorial. This method to stretch the sample over varying tempos is a great technique.

    WOW! Yesterday I watched a 1h tutorial on this App. Today I watched your first 6 tutorials and I learnt MUCH MUCH more than I did in the other one yesterday. I just found your playlist for this Sunvox and I will for sure watch them all now and highly recommend. By the end I hope I can decide: PolyendTracker or Sunvox :D

    Nice tutorial! I think the most 'proper' way to do the interpolation would be to put the 8000 on the line after, interpolate, and then delete it (7fff is the number before 8000 btw).

    I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but you can do it with the sampler, as well as with the Ogg Player. I don't believe this works with other beats loaded in with the SunVox Player, for example, though. If you want to do it with beats or songs you've made, then you should probably export it out to a wave file, or record it into a sampler.

    Thanks a tonne for these videos man, helped me a lot! Very awesome program even on ipod! Any chance you could do a video on automation or dropping patterns in and out at different times on the timeline if its possible with sunvox? great vids!

    How to the "sample offset" in the latest SunVox? Some menu things are different now.

  • @AlbeyAmakiir
    @AlbeyAmakiir 13 років тому

    Actually, could you go over the timeline section at the bottom? I haven't found any tutorials for that, and the manual ignores it completely. I mean, it seems fairly simple, but I want to see if I'm missing anything.

    When editing a sample, can you play it from any point? When you need to edit out some small bits for example.

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  3 роки тому

      Hello! Sorry for the late reply - when playing a sample, you can play it from different points by using the set sample offset command (09). Otherwise, I don't recall being able to play back a sample from any point, though this might have changed in the versions between the first Sunvox and now.

    Can you only do this with the sampler or can you also do it with other beats you made?

    Hi! Firstly, thanks so much for the tutes. This one is bugging me. I am following this exactly, well, as exactly as I can with update changes following this vid. So, in the Interpolator section I have it set to the following, Straight transition, XXYY, Noise 0, repeat 1, Envelope start at 8000 and end at 0. I have done this many times with loops at varying BPM's(though that should not make any difference) the loops are perfectly trimmed, yet They just do not lock into the set tempo. They do speed up and down depending on BPM, but still short of the mark when too slow and get cut off if too fast. What am I missing? I am absolutely positive I am getting the process right, and I'm having the issue on iPad and Mac. Thanks again. Invaluable stuff👍

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  8 років тому

      Ah, I guess I missed this. Sorry!
      I'm not exactly sure what the issue you're having is; if the transition is set to the linear option (the gradual ramp up, the first option), then it should be even in how fast it triggers the samples. If it's off, you might need to fiddle around a bit to get the timing just right (i.e. have it go from 0 to 8000 on 33 lines, and then take the first 32 to loop, which is not exactly how I do it in the video here).
      And no problem!

    i need to know how to use it
    plz plz help me

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  7 років тому

      Hmm, well, it's fundamentally almost identical to the desktop version - the only differences are in the UI, a bit. It might be easier to use it on desktop to get used to it first, and then transfer to trying phone usage.

    Grayson Brayson.. get a computermusic magazine at Barnes and Noble, there's' ton's of loops and software. Well worth the 17 bucks or so, lot's of great software makes it worth it.

    so should not the more preferable value to end sample loop be 7999 instead of 7777?

    • @billsbeats419
      @billsbeats419 3 роки тому

      Don't forget how to count.
      7776, 7777, 7778 ... 7998, 7999, 799A, 799B ... 799E, 799F, 79A0, 79A1 ... 7FFE, 7FFF, 8000.
      Don't feel bad. It takes a lot of practice and daily use.

    • @billsbeats419
      @billsbeats419 3 роки тому +2

      I'm assuming by "7999" you actually mean "7FFF" which is pretty much 8000. You shouldn't put 7FFF/8000 at line 15 or 31, because you'll basically play nothing. 8000 is the end of the sample.
      IE, if your sample is 4.623 seconds long, "8000" plays the sample at the 4.623 second mark. (It plays the end). So you get no sound. "7FFF" would play the sample at the 4.6229295 second mark (basically the end also).

    How you doing man, is there a way to maintain the same pitch below or above c5 without adjusting the fine tune

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  8 років тому

      +William Gunijos Hello! I'm OK, thanks! How're you?
      I'm not quite sure what you mean. Could you explain a bit more?

    • @williamgunijos5120
      @williamgunijos5120 8 років тому

      I'm doing good man thanks. Yea, having multiple samples in one module but all maintaining their original pitch. Say with that break you have. Say you chopped it like DJ premier or something and you wanted all the chops in the same module but not moving up or down in pitch. I tried adjusting the fine tuning to accommodate the the change in pitch lol but I couldn't do it

    I am trying the thing with this waveform loop app.box.com/s/5amhairnzf6r4mrnycvp8rnh7lcgdzhx and it sounds choppy. Dunno wath i'm doing wrong. Maybe the 22k 8b sample is to low? Dunno.

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  7 років тому

      It'll probably sound choppy as it's retriggering the sample with a different offset each line. You can kind of improve the sound of the retriggering by using a very short attack and release on the sampler's velocity, and have the velocity at 100% with sustain on that node. Lemme know if you need me to break it down.

    • @martiarenalipuloez4686
      @martiarenalipuloez4686 7 років тому

      I think i understand how it works. mmm... I am choosing a diferent aproach for my goal. I think this 07 effect is more related to retriggering but not so much for include an external sound with whatever tempo it be. Thanks very much for your att.

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  7 років тому

      You press space or click the icon at the top-right to go into edit mode. Then, select the row and column you want to edit, and type the number you want. You can also press a key on the note column to enter a note. You can do the same with the piano roll or number row that appears when you press space and highlight a space in a column.

    • @SolarLune
      @SolarLune  10 років тому +2

      Grayson Bagwell I don't remember where I got the sample from, but Chiptunes.org is a good place for samples, or the old kiarchive torrent (not sure of its license).
      chipmusic.org/forums/topic/136/tracker-food-samples/
      tracker.modarchive.org/d639852c22ea292ab548000ec6627f660ceb60de
      Otherwise, try searching the web for sample packs.
