Mikayla Renee Smith and Alex Theodore Receive The Young Artist of the Year 2022-2023

Born and raised in Southwest Louisiana, Mikayla Renee Smith, is an Acoustic Soul, R&B, Gospel, and Jazz recording artist, songwriter, and musician. She wows audiences with a smile that entrances you and a voice that embraces you. A heartfelt vocalist whose voice is both wise and soulful beyond its years, Mikayla burst onto the scene after moving from Westlake, LA to West Palm Beach, FL. This major life transition took place during her senior year of high school where she left everything she knew behind in Louisiana. Mikayla stepped into her future by graduating from The King’s Academy where her talents were discovered by Instrumental Arts Director Wes Lowe.
Alex Theodore is a senior at The King’s Academy and has been performing in the Smith Family Conservatory of the Arts since ninth grade. He discovered his passion for music at an early age as he took piano lessons beginning at the age of six. In the fifth grade, Alex joined the Calypso Cats, a band club where he played the steel drums and performed at events across South Florida. Throughout middle school, Alex was involved in the band program and started to learn how to play percussion as well as jazz piano.
