- My chronograph collection. Mainly ‘60s and ‘70s sports chronograph with interesting dials from brands you’ve never heard of. I don’t focus much on brands, I focus on the individual pieces, the character, the feel of each watch.
I don’t collect expensive watches. I do enjoy studying fine Swiss pieces. I admire them from afar like I enjoy a painting in a gallery. But I don’t have any compulsion to own them.
Here I talk through a panda dial Exactima with an eggshell dial, a Kienzle with handsome tritium lume, a yachting chronograph with composite case, a stunning blue-dial Cimier, a Nivada Grenchen with yellow detail in the subdial, am unusual German chronograph from Fulton, a Lanco chrono in NOS condition, a Meister Anker with racing dial, and an honest 36mm Lucerne chronostop.
NATO’s, Hodinkee style leather straps, aftermarket jubilees, original beads of rice bracelets, rubber tropic straps.
My collection doesn’t have any monetary value. It’s a nerdy hobby. I enjoy it very much indeed.
Thanks for watching. Check out my other watch videos is you’d like to see more.
Best wishes

This is a very nice collection. I've got a few old chronos too, including a 1971 Bulova "Surfboard" 666ft Diver Chrono, a Brad Pitt Citizen Bullhead, a seiko bullhead and a few other Seiko chronographs, amongst others. Thanks for posting!
I love your collection. Specially their case shapes. Different but beautiful
Thank you. Update video coming this summer.

My pleasure. Thank you.
Amazing collection, man!
Thank you 👍🏼
Yeah Pandas are white with black eyes..Very nice video.
Very nice collection 👍🏼
Cool Video!!
Great watches!! Nice style!!!
Cheers!
Very cool watches und great video!
Thanks, man.
I bought that exact model back in middle school in the early 70’s. I still have it but although it still runs and keeps time briefly, it needs work. Also the stopwatch hand has fallen off. As far as the bracelet on the one you reviewed is not the original. It came on a bracelet with spring loaded links throughout, a hair puller! Would like to have it serviced but not sure where to bring it, I’m in the states, New England area.
Very nice - great video ❗️
Cheers

Such a cool video thanks
Cheers, Frank
Good video, but prices on such chronograph are much higher now (I'm always on the hunt), all of these would be starting from $500-600 nowadays on ebay. Even more on Chrono24
They’re still out there. On eBay (which I check everyday) there are chronos like these for $200-350. You just need to make offers and be prepared to take a chance when the listing photos aren’t great. Watch brands to look out for are: Anker, Kienzle, Cimier, Lanco etc. Good luck hunting!
I have seen all your watch collection videos and I have fallen in love with your collection.
Kind words. Thank you. I need to shoot an update video soon.
Nice collection man
Cheers. Time for an update video soon.
Hello Will Dean,
first „Panda“ means: White Face, black registers.
Second: Another awesome collection! Very very nice pieces! I like them all very much. You got a lot of watches! Those ten chronographs plus how many others? Really a very nice collection! Be proud of it and enjoy wearing these gorgeous little machines in good health. They all look stunning. As said before it’s not about the money you spent on watches, at least for me, in my opinion, it’s about what you like and gives you a good mood, when looking down on your wrist or at your collection. I do wonder where you did / do find all those great vintage watches?!?
Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland, Sascha
Thank you! I need to remember the panda reference. As for my collection: I’ve been collecting for about 16 years (way back when it was really, REALLY niche). I’ve mainly bought via eBay, but I’m careful to buy from good sellers. I also travel a lot (I’m an author so I tour and fly to events) and I usually try to visit a vintage dealer if I have time. I’m very comfortable buying inexpensive watches - the expensive pieces are works of art but they’re not for me (I live off-grid in a forest). Thanks again for your kind words.
Will Dean - Forest Author well that’s quite some time. 16 years. That’s explaining the nice watches you have. Very nice. I am happy to see more, when the time comes. Keep on enjoying collecting! I the meantime, I think I’m gonna try one of your books... Liebe Grüße Sascha
Hi Will, very much enjoyed this! I'm also a writer of sorts and now budding vintage watch nerd - it's been my lockdown distraction. I'm looking into buying a 'no-name' 1960s/70s manual chronograph but struggling to find any for much under $1000. Perhaps prices have spiked since you started your collection? Or maybe Chrono24 isn't the way forward? Any tips from an old hand would be much appreciated! I also see you've got a Polerouter - I think these are to die for but certainly not cheap... All the best from Chicago.
Thanks, Adam. Prices have definitely gone up since I started to collect. But there’s still value out there. Chrono24 is great for more expensive watches but I think eBay is the place to find a manual no-name vintage Chronograph for $250+. The key is patience (I sometimes wait for 6 months to win an auction) and luck (you might need to service it) and risk management (buy from people with good ratings). It’s a bit of a gamble but you can find some great pieces on eBay (lots of high value collectors still look & buy there). Some brands to search for: Meister Anker, Kienzle, Lanco, Cimier. Search ‘vintage chronograph’ and keep an eye on auctions. I bought quite a few of the pieces in the video over the past 12 months. French and German chronos can be good value. 35/36mm options are also (generally) less expensive. Good luck, and thanks again for watching.
@@willdeanauthor Great to hear back from you Will, and thanks for the advice. I'll certainly have a look on eBay with these weird and wacky brands in mind! It seems like there's a lot of labour involved in snagging a deal, but I suppose that's part of the fun - thrill of the chase and all that. I'm still developing my tastes, but I do like a relatively small watch, I think. I'll report back if I find anything juicy! Cheers
LOL "Chrono 24"
Some unusual models here. It looks possible that they may all have the same movement?
hello, just a fan here that loves your watch fast and collection, just a quick question, how do you find so unique pieces? i surf many times in ebay, and cant seem to find watches that are so good looking as yours :)
Thank you! Most are from eBay. I guess patience is key - factor in that you’ll need to look at thousands of pieces but only find a couple each year at the right price. And even then it’s always a gamble (serving costs etc). I’ve been nerding our on these old watches for years so I’m getting better at spotting the good ones. If I buy something I’m not happy with I sell it. At this low price range it never hurts too much. Best of luck with your hunting!
Really great collection! I'd love to know what watch you are wearing in the video as well!
Thank you! In the chronograph video I’m wearing a vintage Buler Astromaster. It’s a keeper.
@@willdeanauthor It really is! Great Royal Oak alternative
Is that a Buler Astromaster I see you wearing!?
Well-spotted. Still have it in the collection.
@@willdeanauthor I have one myself that’s how I noticed!!
I'm interested to buy my first vintage chronograph.. but I'm just worried about maintenance.. any issues so far? Heard that they are costly..
They can be. I’d say ‘buy the seller’ meaning if you buy from a good dealer and they say it’s serviced it should be the case. If there’s a problem they should look after you. If you’re buying from a private seller it’s a bit like the Wild West. Can be great, can be a disaster. I prefer to buy from good dealers for that reason. I also factor in that a service might be needed in the next few years. A simple chronograph service shouldn’t cost too much if done locally. Complex chronographs are a different story. Hope that helps.
Yes let's admit.
What’s the Genta-esque watch you’re wearing?
It’s a Buler Astromaster from the ‘70s. A basic but handsome piece.
@@willdeanauthor looks really cool. In this Royal Oak look alike way I have a vintage Nivada F77 from the 70s.
What watch are you wearing in the video?
Buler Astromaster from the ‘70s
What size are they?
Most are 38-40mm
Would you sell one of them? :)
Where are you getting these prices I would give you over $1,000 for that cemier all day
They're really cool. I collect vintage cameras. Why are you wearing gloves?
Cheers. Love the idea of collecting vintage cameras. Why gloves? I live in the forest so my hands are often covered in soil/rough (not great for close-ups!) Also: avoids fingerprints.
@@willdeanauthor Makes sense =)
Hi, I see that we have similar taste in watches. I would like to suggest you visiting watches83dotcom. Not connected to the site by any means, but I like to browse there. Man, they have a quirky watches from the 70s, sometimes even NOS.
I think you gonna like them. I am currently hunting Seikos 6139 and 6138, quite a slippery slope. Happy NY celebration!
Thank you
