I am in my last year of my medical studies and also very interested into interventional (neuro) radiology! But I am a little bit concerned about the "radiation protection". I can't find good studies about the negativ effects (besides protection) of radiation on interventional radiologists on the long term. Would be interested in your thoughts about that (or informations where to read about this topic)!

Conferences like this sound like a great way to learn what's going on in the field, and also to take a break from your normal routine for a few days. Are you required to attend these or is it optional? How many days per year will you spend doing this kind of academic business vs treating patients?

As an undergraduate radiology student they push us so hard to make sure we understand radiation physics! As a tech we are expected to know appropriate technique and the effects our techniques will have on the images and the patients. If AEC is unavailable or we go back to film from digital we have to be knowledgeable enough to know how xrays and quality images are produced. It's also important to know the xray tube and how it performs. We claim a modality in school therefore we learn about other modality equipment and physics as well. I love radiation physics it really is different, complex, and interesting!

If you’re either a Pre-med/High schooler don’t worry about it. You’re going to change your mind on your specialty 37 times between now and your time to match into your residency. Try shadowing both of these types of doctors
If you’re in med school, make sure you get a rotation in both of these. That’s the only way you’ll know for sure. If you’re still stuck, make a pros and cons list. If its actually out in front of you, it puts everything together instead of just random thoughts in your head. It’s a tough choice to choose between your specialty, but if you’re super passionate about one in particular, you’ll have this moment where you know you want to do one or the other.
