The chief engineer and technical architect of the GVG 300 switcher was Ed Lindsley - who had been my brother's roommate in college (WSU). Ed was the person who got me interested in electronics, and I followed him and my brother to Grass Valley ... and I started working at GVG in 1983.
I worked back at the Group in those days. I remember when we introduced the 300, we heard comments that there were too many buttons to deal with for live sports events. Have you seen the control panel on today's switchers?
I flew one from 1985 to 1987. Unfortunately I had to use a brand DVE with it. Friend Tara Kelly used to travel the world for GVG - training users on the 300...
@K7AGE More buttons don't necessarily mean better, do they? This is bread and butter production for most of the late 20th century and it looks good still today.

I kept in contact with Tara until about fifteen years ago. No idea where she is now - but say hi from David Workman if you run into her :-)

Does anyone have a copy of the Kaleidoscope "You Can Do Magic" demo video, produced around 1985 or so? I've looked online and can't find it anywhere.
