  • Submitted by Jukka Sandberg of Finland. The Church and Graveyard shown are the Church of Agnus Dei, located in Kos, Greece. Opened in 1935 AD - it contains, amongst the many other graves, the remains of some of the Italian Officers who were massacred at the infamous war crime.
    Nazi Germany invaded Kos in October 1943. They took all Italian Officers (who had once been fellow Axis partners, until Italy changed sides) and held them prisoner. At least 103 were told they were being sent to Tigaki - and then onto prisoner of war camps. It was a lie.
    Near the Tigaki salt lake they were all slaughtered by machine gun and buried in 8 mass graves. Their spirits unable to move on, haunt the site.
