My father and his friends from the Rhode Island Star riders motorcycle did this from the 1930's to the 1970's We had great times at the club. We grew up there every weekend with motorcycle events. Be it road or dirt events all year round. We even did ice events.
Looking carefully at the car park and "paddock" there is no sign of a trailer - they must all have been ridden to the event, and home afterwards. Great film, many thanks for sharing it.
right on thanks for sharing. years ago 1980 petaluma ca .this old guy had pictures of Dudley perkins and his budds doing hill climbs just like this.it was a bit of history..
THANK YOU!!! These films are just the best...I swear. You need to transfer the "ORIGINAL" (16mm) to HD DVD. You own a big piece of history. PLEASE be wise as to who you plan to hand these down to for when you check-out, which I trust is a LONG, long way away, but be careful these will soon be price-less. Oh yea, This is without question California, late 30's early 40's. These types of events ended during WW II!
That was great! could hear it in my head. People see the them now as old delicate machines, but all those old bikes were brand new and having the snot caned out of them once! A wheel builder with an oxy set would have made a killing at these meetings.
Lovely film! Those Triumph's looks like Speed Twins to me. After -39 then? There are some letters in the grass on top of the hill, anyone able to read them? :-)
Nice video of film, Copy all you have on the old bikes like this to a high quality DVD and sell them. I would buy one for $19.95 I love all the old bike stuff. I love the cars in the parking lot also. Im to lazy to copy or steel what you put on Utube and burn my own. put that 16mm film in a safe place, you own history. The environmental folks would not let bikes tare up a grassy hill like that any more.

Would be cool to have a time machine to go back to that day!
