Yeah this was one hell of a show to see live! During the concert they slowly built a 60 ft wall and at the end knocked it down when the crowd began yelling TEAR DOWN THE WALL
I agree. Saw the original in 1980 at Nassau, NY. Then took my son to see Roger doing it in 2012, my son's first ever concert. As much as the 1980 show was intense, the Roger solo version was stunningly better due to the theatrics.
I think everybody understands doing a UA-cam Reaction Video is not the same as listening on your own. You have to get your feelings out, and you gotta pause or all the recording and editing is a waste of time. Just keep doing what your doing😉
The stage show was amazing. They built a wall in front of the band for the first half of the set. Then the whole second half of the set the band played behind the wall as the projected images on the wall. The last song the trial the knocked the wall down. The whole story is awesome. It’s basically about the musician who builds a psychological wall around himself to shut out the world.
Thank you for reacting to this classic album. This project was one of the biggest undertakings in Floyd's career. Prior to Dark Side, Floyd was able to perform at live shows largely unnoticed. Their light shows and staging did much to obscure them while bringing the musical experience to the forefront, giving them an intimate experience with the audience. All that changed with the success of Dark Side, with Floyd changed from performing in halls to performing in stadiums. The band members, especially Roger, became more and more disconnected from the loud and large audiences that attended their stadium concerts. Roger's frustrated boiled over in 1977 when he spat in the face of an audience member near the end of the long Animals Tour (there is a live recording from that concert floating around on UA-cam). It was this incident that leads Roger to develop The Wall. The project consisted of three elements; being the album (released in 1979), the concert tour (1980) and the movie (1982). The recording of the album was problematic. Due to tax reasons, they were forced to record much of it outside of the UK. The band had many creative differences which lead to Roger firing Richard Wright in the middle of recording. The tensions caused a massive rift between Roger and David that would ultimately end their relationship. The concert tour was so large, complex and expensive that it was only performed a small number of times in the USA and the UK. The band lost money, but ironically, Richard Wight, who was hired back (as a session musician) to perform live, was the only band member to make any money for the Tour. The movie caused a number of conflicts between Roger, David and Alan Parker (the movie's director), resulting in the movie being much darker than Roger wanted. The movie is a classic and well worth a watch to gain a better understanding of the underlying narrative. The movie contains some new material, and many songs were re-recorded. The Wall project created a number of songs that never made it onto the album. Roger originally intended to release this additional material as an album entitled "More Bricks", however, he used this material to develop The Final Cut (1983) with many of the lyrics changed to reflect the Falklands War. It was the last album released by the Roger, David, Nick, Richard lineup of Pink Floyd, however many consider it a Roger Waters solo album. Following The Final Cut, Roger declared that Pink Floyd was a spent force and over. David and Nick disagreed. They took Roger to court over the name Pink Floyd and won. Richard was eventually made a band member again. David and Roger have been poles apart ever since. In their history, Pink Floyd has had five band members, four different line ups, with only the drummer, Nick Mason, being a constant member of the group since the beginning.
This one those albums great for long road trip. Nevermind the ppl giving you hard time about the breaks. They don't understand sometimes the best way to keep UA-cam police off your back is to skip various segments of audio. Can't please everyone. I'm just pleased to see you reacting to a classic group like Floyd
The Wall is really a trip. I've listened to both the studio, and live version many, many times, and have watched the film version several times as well. The story it tells is similar in a lot of ways to Tommy, by the Who. But where the ending of Tommy is a positive one, the ending of the Wall is a bit ambiguous. The Wall comes crumbling down, but what effect it has on the lead character is not explicitly stated.
in my head i would rather in waiting for the worms movie you would see pink bashing against the wall in his mind while he does these atrocious things to yell stop and pink has a panic attack, mumbling how he wants to go home, he is taken to the hospital where the trial takes place, he hallucinates and he is being prepared for a mental facility, everything his mother says about wanting to take him home is what she says in real life and the girlfriend, due to the obuse wants him to stay there for the rest of his life, and at the end he is being taken there... that is what i wished happend in the movie, it would make a little more sense and be overall better
Hi can you explain the story to me I googled it and sounded extremely grim about a rock star who’s dad dies and mom raises him and had a hard time in school and he isolates him self
The Wall was 1979... many people say Dark Side of the Moon was "ahead of its time"... that's because DSotM was 1973! Hard to believe when you listen to it now it's 47 years old!! You also asked about the inter-band relationships. Things were falling apart between Roger and David by the time they made The Wall. It definitely reflects how Roger must have been feeling more isolated from the band and the fans.... A bit like the character "Pink". Also Rogers father was killed in Italy in WW2 while Roger was just a baby, so not surprising there's references to Daddy leaving just snap-shots in the family photo album. Anyway great reaction dude, fully appreciate the time you put in to do a video like this! 😉
So glad you reacted to the whole album... this album was my first taste of what a cohesive themed album could do for the mind, it was (and still is) an adventure in audio. Thank you young man!
It's a story about a lost boy who grows up in the aftermath of the war his father died in. His mother is over protective, his school days are harsh, society doesn't give a damn about him. He isn't stable or happy. He takes his frustrations out on his girlfriends, hides behind his carefully constructed wall, ultimately loses his mind and commits suicide. Not for the faint of heart lol.
Listened to the album over and over while reading the lyrics, trying to understand it all. Back in those days, there was no “lyrics meaning” website to go to. By the way, listening to the whole thing, straight through, is the only way to fly.
In 1977/78 I worked for a company on the edge of Coventry England. There was open fields behind the depot, and one day we saw a group of people with cases and sound recording gear walking by the fence. My colleague asked what was going on. They replied they worked for EMI and were getting the sound of a large cooling tower being blown up that day for the new Pink Floyd album!
I listens to this album starting in the 90's I would have been 15-16ish and pink Floyd the wall the movie I watched for the first time for my first time tripping acid. Which was a right of passage is what you did for yours first acid experience.
Glad you enjoyed it. I still remember the first time I sat and listened to it all the way through for the first time. It's a real treat. But why on earth would you want to muffle the sound by listening to it through a hood? I've seen several people doing this lately and it just bothers me to no end. Not really griping, just genuinely confused as to why people would do this.
I grew up with both bands pink and led, pink are whole albums, led singles totally different with pink you chill out with led you wind your self up try Kashmir for led before you try dased and confused to start led zeppelin is a whole other rabbit hole prepare

I was 7 when this came out and my older brother had it. I would come home from school and make him play it lol. I wasn't old enough to see Pink Floyd do the Wall concert, but I did see Roger Waters do it and it was an amazing experience. There is no other album like the Wall!

Syd Barrett was only with them for their first 2 albums. This is like their 9th or 10th. After Dark Side of the Moon. Written almost entirely by Roger Waters, who left the band in 1985, I think.
This came out 6 years after dark side of the moon. The reason it is so different from all the ones you've heard before is because Roger Waters had taken almost complete control over the band.
not too much control, he did write the lyrics though, gilmour and others had input or do you think waters composed all the guitaring, i think you are thinking of TFC, even though gilmour and mason played on most tracks, but not as much control that gilmour showed on AMLOR
@@kevinohara2618 as I said, waters had taken "almost" complete control of the band. Did you think this was a secret or something? Waters presented an almost complete concept for the wall AND The pros and cons of hitchhiking, And the rest of the guys had to pick one to go forward with. Now the wall wasn't completely fleshed out, it still took Gilmore and his musicianship to make the stuff waters came up with listenable. I definitely recommend you do some research into the wall and find out who wrote what. As much as I can't stand waters for what he did to the band he came up with a lot of stuff, not just lyrics, he wrote the basic melodies to most of these songs.
@@neillenet291 there iis nothing each of us has said that is untrue, for many decades i have only believed what could be worked out from members of the band, not from others interpretations, sometimes im wrong but not this time, i respect the greatness of all members of the band, waters isnt the ogre you think, gilmour has as big (if not more) an ego and is better at hiding his bitterness than waters is, this is my last comment here as i have learnt that arguing with a waters hater is akin to arguing with a flat earther
I getting fucked up big time when this album came out, if you really want understand this album I STRONGLY you either rent or buy the movie the wall it’s best to watch it if your fucked up
Pink floyd was basically over at this point. Roger quit after one more album but David Gilmour wanted to continue the band, which led to a years-long legal battle and petty lawsuits between them over who "owned" the Pink Floyd name. They were never the best of friends even before Roger split, and they still can't stand each other 40 years later.
snakelite61 yes I’ve seen Roger Waters’ interviews about Syd’s behavior. The way he acted during recording, facing the wall and only playing one chord when they were playing live or not even playing at all, pretended he was gay one week. Definitely odd things
Not really. It's a concept that roger waters came up with while dealing with feelings of isolation after bad experiences with audiences touring 'Animals'. It's not autobiographical or anything, other than the "Pink" characters father dying in the war.
Get to arguably one of their greatest songs of all time (Comfortably Numb), then not only did you completely skip the first solo, you followed that blunder up by almost skipping over the entire second solo as well. A solo of which is literally considered one of the top 2 greatest guitar solos in RnR history. Had to stop watching after that. Sheesh! Learn that when you do a reaction, pause and give a reaction, then continue the song from where you left off. Like most other reaction videos do without getting a YT strike.
