  • The traditional town of Afitos stands out among the resorts of the peninsula. Located on a hill above the bay, Afitos has been famous since prehistoric times. His fleet participated in the Persian Wars. During the classical and archaic period, the settlement flourished. It was famous for its abundance of goods: olives, wine, honey, grain, wood. The city was destroyed by Philip II, but it flourished again under the Byzantine Empire. The residents of Afitos took part in the events of the Greek War of Independence - many revolutionaries born here have left their names in the history of Greece.
The main attraction of Afitos is its architecture. There are many houses of the XIX century preserved here, which can be admired while walking along the stone-paved streets. Some houses have hardly changed, others are worse preserved.
