Fun fact, the dimetrodon was so common that it's what gave birth to the expression "dime a dozen". It's a true story, a dimetrodon revealed it to me in a dream.
The dimetrodon's name come's from it's initial price, as they were so abundant that they could be sold for only ten cents. This drove the dimetrodon's more expensive counterpart, the trodon, to extinction, as no one would ever be stupid enough to buy a trodon when dimetrodons were so cheap.

Joking aside, Dimetrodon was also not a dinosaur. It was one of the earliest of the Synapsids, which were the proto-form of mammals.
Yes, almost none of the information here is correct. There were not five eras of dinosaurs, at least not in the geological sense: there was one era, the mesozoic, containing three periods, of which the Jurassic was the second.
I do love using the fact that dimetrodon was closer to mammals than any dinosaur to bug people by showing them basal synapsids like dimetrodon and telling them that that is what their ancestors looked like.

The guy making this list is a master paleo troll and I love it! I also love Dimetrodon, and I gotta give my boy the proper respect by infodumping about the fella. Dimetrodon is not a dinosaur, but is in a lot of dinosaur media so I understand the confusion. It lived around 70 million years before the first dinosaurs, during the Permian period around 290 million years ago. For reference this was about 200 million years after the Ediacaran period and 288 million years before the Ice Age. Dimetrodon was a predator, and probably hunted aquatic prey like sharks on occasion, though it lived in wetlands and was primarily terrestrial. That "fin" or sail was probably used to attract mates and could've been brightly coloured or patterned. Now the really cool thing about Dimetrodon- it is a type of animal called a synapsid, or protomammal(they used to be called mammal-like reptiles but they weren't reptiles). This means that Dimetrodon and kin are more closely related to us humans than to any other reptile(including dinosaurs!)

@SwitchZetto Likely a reference to the real life Ediacaran lifeforms, the oldest multicellular fossils on record, which obviously came long before Dimetrodon. Early lifeforms hadn't even figured out the best way to be symmetrical yet, so there were weird forms like spiral shaped creatures or creatures with three-way symmetry.

man, the Triassic (and before) needs more love as the Jurassic is a well-known name and the cretaceous has the most well-known creatures.
to be fair there wasn't really much going on in the early Triassic other than Lepidosaurs like this guy and some bivalves; most creatures were still recovering from the biggest extinction event we've ever had, the End-Permian, where Russia blew up. What's more interesting though is everything before the End-Permian like those whirly jaw sharks and the sea scorpions and ammonites
When I was a kid, we would started to find crustacean shells in the gills of fish. After a google search, I thought the snapper Blues were eating trilobites. A few years later, a teacher explained that trilobites were long extinct. The weird part is, my Dad thought I was right.

I love how with this one they went out of their way to be as wrong as possible. It lived in the desert (the complete opposite of the sea), it was before the dinosaurs (not the last dinosaur) and it wasn't even technically a dinosaur.

Dimetrodon was related to spinosaurus. Both dinisauruses had protruding vertebrae. They could both swim, but they weren't fish
