    Fantastic. At last a simple, well explained method of foaming a seat. I'm off to do mine now!

    Wanted a new seat for a two year production bike. This saved me tons and was not hard at all.

    Neat, and I learned something here. I'd suggest looking into a hot wire for foam cutting. That is used for Styrofoam, but it might work here too.

    I reckon you should've left half an inch along edges instead of cutting it exactly the same size as the frame. This is because when you put on the upholstery you're going to have to stretch it a bit for a tight fit and that will compress the foam

    There's some good ideas there...it can be intimidating to approach a job like this but you made it look doable!! :) ..the only thing I would say though is when you stuck the foam down it might have been better to stick it one end first and 'roll' it into the dip in the seat pan andf to the other end...otherwise the foam will get stretched in the middle when you try to press it down if you stick both ends first??.. Good Video though :)

      Go to an upholstery shop and see if you can sample some high density foam. I would select the firmest you can, then adding a layer of a memory foam. You will have to experiment.

      @@thejunkman thanks i got some 3M 77 before i saw your reply it see,ed to work good

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  5 років тому

      77 will work, it is just a more general contact adhesive, but the seat cover is going to do most of the holding.

    What density of foam did you use? Nice work

    • @thejunkman
      @thejunkman  4 роки тому +1

      Depends. Sometimes I do a dual density when I build seats. This is of a medium density closed cell foam.

    chopperseat here i come.
    the plus side on too much foam is that, if you are sitting too low on the bike (sleepy legs) that you can sit more elevated so that it corrects you position.
