That make me jump about 5 feet in the air even though I knew what was going to happen, because as was said in the review the image suddenly there is emblazoned in my head. But the car scene is what really got me, because that music...

      Sorry, wasn't I mean
Disgusting?, there was nothing disgusting about a woman lying on the ground scaring the audience with FNaF scream jumpscare. That scene tbh was so fake and what I mean by fake, it's one of those stupid jumpscare tactics where a loud noise and a not so scary thing shows up shocking everyone. Sure, this film has it's creeps and scares but that lawnmower scene everyone was talking about is stupid as well as that cheesy final scare at the end.

    *SPOILERS*
About the image moving on the computer. They do explain it later that Bugbuul lives in the "image world" and its not the house that is haunted, but the images. Wherever you take the images, Bugbuul will follow you be it on the computer or on a projector, on a paper or even a drawing. This explains the very last scene as well where all the children see Bugbuul in the physical world and run away in the video. Thus characters in a recorded video (possessed by Bugbuul) reacting to events in the physical world. Bugbuul controls the image/video world. It was an interesting concept IMO.
The only thing annoying were the jumps scares. I was never a fan of them. They are less scary and more startling. If an insect suddenly comes in front of me, I will be surprised but it does not mean that I am scared. Jump scares are cheap.

    • @shashanklaur507
      @shashanklaur507 8 років тому +6

Yeah, Jump Scares are only temporary. If they want it to be scary they should show something that creeps us every time we think about it. something that messes our brains.

    • @andyfoster8011
      @andyfoster8011 8 років тому +5

There was one jumpscare that was just really cheap in this, with the child jumping up to the camera, so forced.

Honestly I thought this movie was a little slow at times and I was expecting more, but by the end it really surprised me because I really thought the family was gonna get out of this alive. Even my cousin was left shocked because it's rare to see a movie that kills off all the characters in such a way.

Although this movie was out 7 years ago, I’m now commenting about it! I’ve seen this movie when it was released. I’m a horror movie fan and tbh it made me uncomfortable in a good way , saying this was a creepy movie guys. What makes it worse is the music! Ughh.... Onetime I think last year I rewatched it again, but I fell asleep and when I woke up at like 3 in the morning the home screen was on and the freakin creepy ass song was playing in loop! All I know is I changed movies quickly to Adventure Time just to calm my ass down💆🏽‍♀️

I remember watching Sinister in theaters, it certainly scared me. I found that Mr. Boogie looked more like the guitarist from Slipknot however, he has a similar mask and the long matted hair... I found that funny but it shows the movie was pretty effective because I still found the character scary after that slight disconnect.

The Ring itself wasn't scary to me, but by association I will not watch it again... I watched horror movies almost as frequently when I was a kid as I do now, and not one bothered me until I saw Ju-On at age 8, and by bothered it was some actual mental trauma. I wasn't able to sleep in the dark until literally ten years later. So I can't do long dark-haired ghost girls in any movie because I don't need any help picturing Kayako when I'm trying to sleep at night; my brain is really good at that already.

The Babadook is the ONLY movie that scared the living hell out of me. I started watching it at midnight in pitch-black darkness and had to wait a couple days later in daylight to finish it. ***** I liked Sinister, but it wasn't really scary for me. The new Ouija movie was pretty good though. Some parts actually worked for me. Although I had a strong sense of Deja vu from that movie seen as they rehashed so many scenes from the first one.

    • @trever4818

***** I agree with you about Sinister and Lights Out (biggest disappointment was Lights Out). I will say this though, I luckily saw Sinister in theaters and didn't hear anything about it from people and I think I only saw one trailer. It was a bit of a let down regardless. And Ouija was really good. It actually got under my skin a couple of times. Did it actually scare me (not talking jumpscares)? I'm not even going to lie, it did a few times (even the predictable scenes were done very well). Although my mind was still scarier than the movie, lol. And if you have seen the first movie try to forget about it because it does feel like you've seen it before (there was a lot of new stuff, but it was like watching an extended cut of the old one but done better). That's just my two cents.

Horror movies don't scare me, but Sinister has a special place in the dark part of my heart. The beautiful trick to this movie is it lets you fill in the blanks. It doesn't show you gore, it doesn't show you the worst bits, but your mind shows you. Coupled with amazing sound design, it is quite the experience. I think to really enjoy this movie you need to have an imagination, and some people in the comments clearly watch horror movies to show how tough they are and they miss out.
When I first saw it in the cinema, the lawnmower scene was the pinnacle. Every single Super 8 film had me hooked with the soundtrack and execution, and I knew there was one film left and I was so fascinated as to what it might be. With that film though, there was an absence of music, which to me was so powerful at that point in the movie. The video cuts away without showing you what mangling someone with a lawnmower looks like, but I saw it in my mind and felt queasy. It was at that point a dude a few seat across from me fainted out of his seat. Will always remember that hahaha.
You only get to experience something for the first time once.

The movie alien. Although that movie didn't scar me for life when i watched it, its the whole idea behind alien that scares me. Think about, you're trapped on a claustrophobic spaceship with a killer, unstoppable, and hard to find monster that could kill you at any second or bread another one of it's kind inside of you while you wait for it to burst from your chest. But the worst part is, in space, no one can save you, no one can survive, and no one can hear you scream.

The very first horror movie that I have ever seen was the one that scared me the most. And it scarred me for life. It was The Ring. I was stupid enough to watch it when I was 10. And because of it scarring my life scary movies don't really scare me anymore. But their still fun to watch. Quite personally I like Sinister because I like the plot.

Cabin Fever did it for me when i was younger. I was so scared for nearly half a year that i nearly cried. Just something about the combination of the music and an extremely infectious flesh eating disease did it for me. I wouldn't even look at the VHS/dvd box art at the rental place because it brought up the fear again.
And the scenario of the movie was completely possible to happen irl.
I don't think i could see the movie even now at 27, maybe it would open up a whole new world of fear again lmao.
On the other side of the spectrum was The Ring. The american version. I was like 10 or 11 when i saw it, same with Cabin Fever.
I carried the small tv out of my room for a few weeks after i saw that movie.

But movies similar to the exorcist, the grudge, or the ring do intrigue me (not scare me)

I guess that should be a compliment to the creators. Another movie that messed me up and had me thinking about it for days and gave me sleepless nights was Session 9. It is a bit slow in the beginning but it makes you wonder about all those people in real life who out of nowhere snapped and claimed that voices in their head made them murder. I shudder at the thought..... Creepy. As. Hell.

I know a lot of ppl think that movie's boring. But I grew up in a two-story house and my bedroom was on the second floor (which was vacant except for me because both of my sisters had moved out by the time this movie came out) and I literally could NOT sleep anywhere but the couch in my living room (which was on the first floor that was not vacant).

The movie that “scared the living shit out of me” was probably (and still might be) The Strangers (2008)
As a skeptic of all that is supernatural and spiritual those movie don’t scare that much
Not to say supernatural movies don’t scare me, it’s just that they have to try harder, The Conjuring, Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity having succeeded (Hell House LLC. Also a fun watch but it is not even close as being as scary as the other three)
But home invasion movies do (mainly because I see it as a thing that could likely happened)
And The Strangers was just fucked with me in just the right way, I actually had to stop the movie and continue it the next morning which is something that I haven’t done before or since (excluding when I was 7 and watched Coraline due to the fact that I was easily scared as a kid)
-The strangers are just brutal to the main characters
-They torture and kill for no reason
-And they just play with their food
-And not once can the main characters take back the power, even when they have a gun they just hide in the closet
Just a big nope of a movie for me
