The character who plays Diana is a flawed person unlike her friend...she sleeps around and has an abortion and her friend is super sweet and gets good grades. At the end its revealed the flawed girl that always was the outcast and troubled teen decides she should die when the shooter makes them pick one who should die to save the other. The OP isn't talking about the shooter or school shootings dumbass.
