Grand ART's KEIKYU line 🎨 by Rail Japan Story
The 1000 II series, named N1000 series, represents the second generation of the 1000 series and almost 60% of the KEIKYU private operator's EMUs. The first series, produced from 1958 to 1976, came out in 1959 and remained in service until 2010.
This series, produced by J-TREC, Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Tokyo Car Corporation, went into service in April 2002. Today, it comprises: 84 formations of 498 cars divided into four groups: aluminum alloy bodies, stainless steel bodies, 1800 and 1890 ''le Ciel'' sub-series in Sustina Steel.
All have three sets of doors per car and can run in the subway, but not all are used for direct services to the Toei Asakusa, Keisei and Hokuso lines.
    Lines served
    KK Keikyu main line
    KK Keikyu airport line
    KK Keikyu Daishi line
    KK Keikyu Kurihama line
    KK Keikyu Zushi Line
    UN Toei Asakusa Line
    KS Keisei Main Line
    KS Narita Airport Keisei Line
    KS Oshiage Keisei Line
    HS Hokuso Line
The first aluminum-alloy body set delivered from 2001 to 2006, representing lots 1 to 5, is based on the 2100 series, in a traditional red and beige color scheme, with the serial number on a white background at each end. Unit 1057 is yellow "Happy Train" and comprises 9 units of 8 cars and 12 units of 4 cars. Until 2021, lots 1 and 2 were equipped with Siemens GTO traction inverters, replaced by Toshiba IGBT transistors. Siemens GTO transistors had the particularity of producing music on start-up, like the Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB's ES64U2 TAURUS. While batches 3 to 5, Toyo Denki IGBTs
The second group between 2007 and 2015 with stainless steel bodies, lots 6 to 15 have been built since 2007 and each unit comprises 13 units of 8 cars, 12 units of 6 cars or 11 units of 4 cars. These are the first Keikyu trains made with stainless steel bodies originally partially painted red, but they look so cheap that they are unpopular with enthusiasts and even everyday users. So, in 2016, the company decided to partially cover them with vinyl materials, to give them a better look. As of 2018, KEIKYU has adopted an even more radical approach called "Ginsen" painting stainless steel bodies, which feature high corrosion resistance. It is also equipped for the first time with concealed emergency doors at the front right from the 10 th batch This second group is equipped with Mitsubishi IGBT transistors for the 8-car units and Toshiba for the 6-car units.
The 1000-1800 series is based on the second group in stainless steel, partially painted in the standard color palette, and consists of four cars. Unlike previous versions, they feature front doors in the middle of the front ends, enabling them to form 8 cars for underground operation. Japanese regulations require underground trains to have escape routes in the event of an emergency, so coupled trains with two or more units but no gangways are not permitted. However, the 1800 sub-series has failed to provide such flexible operation, and only three units were delivered by J-TREC in 2016.
The 1800 series also includes a batch series 16 to 19 without doors centralized at the ends delivered between 2016 and 2018 equipped with LED lights . The 6 units of 8 cars use Mitsubishi IGBTs and have an output power of 190 kW, while the 12 units of 6 cars use the same Toyo Denku IGBTs as the previous trains of 4 and 6 cars.
The last Group, the 1000-1890 series lot 20 a 21 is based on the 1800 sub-series, but the 1890s have a Sustina steel structure according to a J-TREC patent. Seats are convertible. Each four-car unit has two toilets. According to the company, they can be used for train excursions, which has been described as dubious by rail magazines. In 2021, following a competition, the 1890 series was officially named "The Sky". The units are equipped with Toyo Denki Hybrid IGBT frequency power transistors.
The N1000 series is used throughout the KEIKYU network, but rarely on the Daishi line. The eight-car units are also used on the Toei Asakusa, Keisei and Hokuso lines. Some of these stainless steel-bodied trains operate as Access Expresses on the Narita Sky Access Line, linking Haneda and Narita airports. However, the 1000-1800 and 1000-1890 series are not used on connecting lines. The 1890 sub-series are also used on Morning Wing 3 (Miurakaigan - Shinagawa) on weekdays.
Modernized from 2017, the N1000 series trains have already replaced the 700 series, in service from 1967-2005, as well as the first-generation 1000 series, the 800 series and the 2000 series. KEIKYU plans to introduce even more N1000 series trains in the coming years, to replace the 1500 series.
All units have regenerative braking, a power rating ranging from 155 kW for 4-car units to 190 kW for 8-car plants, and can be coupled as multiple units with the 600, 1500 and 2100 series for an authorized speed of 120 km/h.
    Congratulations, Have a great day.

@RailJapanStory Thank you 🙏 An 8-car EMU was destroyed in an accident and since it has been replaced, I didn't mention it. The 1000 N series in Formation 4/6/8 cars is a KEIKYU series of the most complex, by its powertrain from different suppliers and the two types of materials used are an example among many others. I wish you a very good end of day and an excellent evening.
