Had the pleasure of meeting Benny Hinn at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny. He spoke at length about the cannister in his arse.

The people they're picking out of the crowd may be 'in on it'. That said I was dragged to a couple of churches with these types of preachers as a kid. Alot of the congregation would fall over when 'pushed', I never did even when the preacher would persistently try. I think the ones that fall do so to avoid embarrassing the preacher.

Compare this guy to your average pastor - on call day & night for those in his church, in his study writing a sermon for every Sunday, praying for those in his care, paid less than average wage but working more than average hours, genuinely concerned for the poor on his doorstep, wrestling with his own doubts and anxieties.
It’s guys like Benny Hinn that make us think all (or even most) pastors are hucksters. Or worse, child abusers. Deviant.
Most are just hard working, caring people, who have dedicated their lives to conviction and principle. Regardless of one’s belief, they don’t deserve to be lumped in with a charlatan like Hinn.
What do you want to be a pastor for in the first place? Huh?

As someone engaged to evangelical Christian, watched endless hours of stuff like this and went to a revival, your absolutely correct. They were all lovely people.

I know evangelical Christianity was founded in America but its spread all over the world now and besides Latin America and parts of Africa evangelicals are seen as weird cult members! This type of in your face "give me more money" Christianity is considered total cringe where i live (Australia) and if walk the streets proselytizing to strangers about heaven and hell you will be rightfully mocked and laughed at! In Australia about 1.9 percent of people identity as some branch of evangelicalism while about 51 percent identify as atheist/agnostic. In America its about 25 percent who identify as evangelical and only about 9 percent say atheist/agnostic. Its just crazy as an outsider watching how much america loves religion especially if its crazy and extreme?!
