These systems were the first to feature jointed brushes. The Christ All Top 4 went one step further and had Primus-style dryers. The jointed brush idea was a Christ patent back in 1993.
Back in the mid 1990s there was an Elf petrol station in Neath that had a Christ All-Top car wash with blue & white polyethylene brushes but then around 2000-2001 it was replaced by a Wesumat Evolution with red polyethylene brushes, the petrol station currently has a Washtec Softcare car wash with red & orange Softecs brushes that was installed in mid 2010 & the petrol station is currently under the Esso banner.
There used to be a Christ All Top at a Total (now Shell) petrol station in Manchester. When I used it the brush wash was spoiled because only the side brushes spun (The top brush didn't even spin before the drying cycle!) It was replaced in 2015 with a Washtec Softcare EvoR.
ONLY if the car wash is poorly maintained. Polyethylene brushes were designed to flick away the dirt and residue without scratching the vehicle. Car wash manufacturers use a foam material nowadays which is soft on the paintwork and flicks away the residue just as effectively as bog standard polyethylene. The only time a car wash scratched my paint was because it was poorly maintained.

I very much doubt it, Sainsburys only started installing Christ systems in about 2003. In the 1990s they almost always used Ceccato systems.

Car washes are meant to clean, not to scratch.
