It’s a good video and definitely an improvement from the one on the kings and generals channel that they did a few years ago. However, they make the same mistake again. The battle between the Tyrrells/Lannisters vs. Stannis doesn’t happen on the north bank it happens on the south bank of the blackwater rush. Most of Stannis’ army doesn’t actually make it onto the north bank, and he’s hit in the flanks by the Tyrell-Lannister force. The remainder of Stannis’ army is able to be picked up by Salador Saan, who picks them up from the coast just south of the opening of the blackwater rush. He couldn’t have picked them up from the river as the chain was up at that time, and he couldn’t have got round the burning bridge of galleys. It’s a small detail, but it does play a major role in the battle.
Ya, there seems to be some sort of ongoing disconnect between whoever on their team writes their scripts and whoever makes the animations. Admittedly, it's the only real blemish on their otherwise excellent videos, but it is a little disconcerting to see the battle maps not match the narration or source material, or just seeing them mix up cardinal directions (3:00 for example).
I was watching some of your older videos on the Roman Slave Revolts, and then I watched this and remembered the Butcher King of Astapor, Cleon! He, like the roman slave king Cleon, sallied from his city instead of starving to death, and died in a bloody fashion. They were both former slaves as well, this must be Martin taking historical inspiration. I love finding references like this in modern books

Didnt red the books yet but watched the show - 2 season was my favourite because it had the most politics, war and plot twists. War of the five kings was the best to offer and blackwater bay was the best battles in got. Pitty that they hadnt got the budget to recreate full battle.
As much as it would have been cool for Stanis and Rob to team up, Stannis doesn't really understand compromise (at this point) and it would not take long until both of them came to blows over Northern independence. If Rob stuck with the original plan of helping Stannis, this all could have been avoided.
Stannis was great but he really should have made common cause with Rob Stark and the riverlands so he would have had the allies he desperately was going to need if he was going to take the 7 kingdoms back. The Lannisters were already against him and at best he could hope that the Tyrells would stay neutral . All that was left was Dorne and the Vale and since the Vale didn't side with the Starks and the Tullys he had to count them out of this war. Dorne was not fond of the late king Robert so he couldn't count on them either, leaving only the Starks and Tullys
That's Stannis Baratheon for you, he'll bend before he breaks, and is too unyielding for his own good. I was thinking what would have happened should he have won at Blackwater, and I keep coming back to the idea that he either falls to a coalition of the Starks, Tyrells, remaining Lannisters, and Arryns(Littlefinger) being forced to ally against him, or he beats them with heavy casualties and fall to Young Griff/Dany's invasion(since Tyrion dies in this scenario he won't be alive to tell YG to not go find Dany). But his unyielding nature also gives him a certain charm, and his integrity is rare to see amongst most of Westeros's nobility.

Some book lore that was omitted in the video; The battle started before Stannis' army arrived with Varys rooting out the "Stags Men" in the city who were loyal to Stannis, Joffrey had them executed by nailing antlers to their heads and shooting them from the catapults. The wildfire ships caused significant damage to Stannis' navy but completly annihilated the cities fleet leaving only six surviving and they take no further part in the battle, this allowed the remaining Stannis loyal ships to ferry troops across the river during the battle. Stannis had sent out scouts to watch out for a relief force, however Tyrions hill men succesfully harrassed them clearing a path for Tywins army. Stannis had initially wanted to regroup and stay in the fight but was convinced the battle was lost by Ser Richard Horpe and Justin Massey. RolandStorm was rewarded for his part in the battle by being appointed the castellan of Dragonstone when Stannis sailed for the wall. Davos Seaworth lost four sons in the battle. As always, I love these videos! But at the same time, some of the graphics seem a bit faulty, especially the part where Sallador Saan comes to ferry away Stannis. This had to be done on the bay side of the chain boom, as they wouldn't have been able to sail up the Blackwater. I also thought most of the battle between the Tyrell-Lannisters and Stannis was between the walls fronting on the Rush, which then again would make more sense for Stannis to be forced to the edge of the riverside and bay, where Saan could transport them away.
I like Tywin 😢tough love ❤️ but for the good of the realm and so practical. Stannis: ppl should know when they are conquered Tyrion: casterly rock expects every man to know his duty 😮

I know I'm late, but technically in the books Ser Davos wasn't the one who encouraged Stannis to leave Melisandre on Dragonstone - that was predominantly his lords who had said that if she had came and Stannis won, the victory would've been hers instead of his. Davos did silently agree with them though.
Nice to see Tyrion really using the words he told Jon Snow, "Wear it (your status as a bastard, dwarf, etc) like armor so it can never be used against you."
Stannis’ plan was flawed from the beginning. Even if he *had won*, he would only have had under 20,000 soldiers. How was he going to rule the realm outside of King’s Landing?
Here the consequences of Edmure victory and disobedience at the battle of the fords come home to roost for the starks and all of the Lannister's enemies as without his actions there, Tywin army would have either had been destroyed or unable to reach the capital in time in the westerlands. Making Tyrion's brilliant and courageous defence of the city ultimately futile and doomed to failure and eventually taken and sacked by Stannis.

The only survivors who were allowed into Saan's fleet were those who hadn't thrown their spears and shields and came in formation. Those who did so, in order to escape, were left to die
Another classic GoT battle covered, leading to Stannis’s departure to the Wall after the deteriorating situation there and the formidable power bloc made by the Lannister-Tyrell alliance. However there’s some inconsistencies here, such as Salladhor Saan picking up Stannis and his retreating army along the rush when Tyrion’s chain had already been lifted making it impossible for the egress of any ship along the river. Still great stuff I will compare it to the Battle of Blackwater video from K&G made in 2019.

King's landing has 400k people. What was Stannis thinking?
That those ~400k tax payers would make a nice addition to his royal purse. And that the incestuous Lannister children must die.
@@DefinitelyKnownLuddite but it's a big plot point that they are starving and they're all a different religion. He's trying to take a powder keg.
Could Stannis even take the red keep? Let alone maegor's holdfast!
He's just asking to be besieged.
@@catmonarchist8920 Stannis blockading the sea sure is a big factor in the hunger. If this factor is removed, plus supplies from the Stormlands brought in, people are going to love him and forget his religion. Those who don't will be burnt. Simple enough, In Stannis' mind.
@@catmonarchist8920 About the keep & holdfast: with the defeat & desertion of the gold cloaks, as well as a big part of Lannister forces, would those remaining even be able or willing to resist? Even if they are, Stannis can leave a small portion of his army to besiege it, while taking the rest to fight Tywin in the field.
not all of King's landing's populace are loyal to the Lannisters and not all of them are armed
Tyrion was the most competent of the Lannisters
Keep it up! Great episode
Smashed the like button as a sacrifice to the Algorithm. Cheers
YES YES YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE WWWWWOOOOOOOO LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO
Great video!
Anyone else bugged by the final map being poured over by the Starks being backwards?
9:35 Don't let the Hound hear you say that
Give Tyrion credit. He defended the capitol!
As a fan of Stannis everytime I watch the battle of Blackwater makes me so depressed haha
Poor Robb stark
Good old days...
Stannis really was the heroe of the story, to bad the writer hated him
Fuck D&D
Hate to break it to ya man, but Stannis ain’t the hero of the story. He’s gonna lose in the books as well, maybe not at Winterfell, but I doubt he’ll be around when the one war that actually matters comes.
Story is A Song of Ice and Fire, aka the tale of Jon and Dany.
Umm, Stannis's vanguard arrived by land, not sea. The arrow fire exchange with the Lannister ships happened on the river.
Amazing work
we need a dance of the dragons video
One King! One God! One Realm!
Thank you for this video, and plz do more battle videos from Ice and fire world.. There are just too much history and war to tell about, and I personally, from all fantasy series, prefer GRR Martins world stories..
Perfeito documentário!
Thanks!
Stannis will win the war in the next book guys, dw
Love how i just watched this episode and Lowe and behold.. TY
I would love it if you were able to cover the battle from the books "The chronicles of the plumed serpent" it's a alternative history series that has some good writing details that can help produce good battle analysis uwu
hey around 14:00 mark the audio is messed up, it appears to be doubling the voice of the narrator.
is it me, or Tyrion kinda looks like PewDiePie ?
Fitting, both of their careers hit a rough spot on a bridge lol
Completely wrong Tywin's forces attacked stannis from the other side of the river not in front of the King's Gate.
Wasn't this battle already covered on kings and generals
Since I do not have premium channels I appreciate your GAME OF THRONES videos: Thanx
