Hi everyone! Hope this video is helpful to you. The main takeaway for me is that it's not actually all about having the best and lightest gear (as some of the blogs and research out there may tell you). It's about having gear you like, that works for you, and that allows you to live outside for days on end. Do what works for you and who cares what anyone else thinks! 😊
Yeh I agree, many of the lightweight items I've had over the years I didn't really like in the long run. Some of ot is fantastic, but much of it is kinda fragile. Especially on a lang distance hike it's more of a bother then the increased weight of sturdier or more comfortable stuff.
Luxury Item: Full size tooth brush.... That totally cracked me up. Thanks!!!!
... “who cares what anyone else thinks”, absolutely, Mari 👊😎...
I love watching anything PCT related and you are so pleasant to watch/listen to. I'm going back to Campo tomorrow night and hiking to Julian as a physical training hike and test the cold weather clothes because it will be 25 degrees at night and a chance of light snow. I live 40 miles (as the crow flies) from the 400 mile mark of the trail
Awesome! Sounds like a good training hike. Have fun and be safe out there!
I think the peace of mind is worth the extra weight. Thanks for going over every, little thing. 🌿
I would absolutely bring what I think I would need in lots of bags! I have been on too many camping trips where I thought I could leave something at home and always ended up needing it ! 😀
Luxury items are just the best :D Recently I switched my air pillow to a down pillow from Therm-a-rest (stuffed with my fleece) and I love it so much. Now it feels almost like home. I'm also carrying an essential oil blend roll-on stick that smells like mint. It calms and helps against headaches.
Ooh those both sound so nice!! 🙌
One of the better gear reviews. Now I have to go back and watch your hike!
Enjoy your videos. I look forward to the rest of your hike. Blessings
Hello Mari, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing your very informative video. I really enjoyed it. I wish you all the very best on your future endeavors. Take care, be safe and always have fun. 🤗
Great video Mari! I would love to here about Nick's backpack aswell since there isn't much information about it online :)
Thanks Mari! Me and my girlfriend are getting ready to hike the PCT this year and your videos have been so helpful!
Yay! I have been looking forward to this one!
I think the peace of mind is worth the extra weight. Thanks for going over every little thing.
PCT 2020🌿
You can’t tell me not to watch this video because of spoilers in it for us (me) who watches all of your videos right away lol. Imma going to watch it anyways 🤪 can’t wait, my hike is coming very quickly (March 10th)
Thanks so much for posting this now! I was waiting for it patiently :) Very well explained and SO useful, thanks!
Yay happy to hear it!
Love the videos ! Can’t wait to see you new adventures
Great video Mari! I've been enjoying your journey, you have such a great style and you're so real, which makes it great to watch. I'm almost 65 and still hoping to hike the PCT some day...
Hi Lynette! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos 😊 I hope you do hike the PCT one day!!
Sawyer squeeze looked pretty good and the Garmin too,
always great content thank you! that sawyer o-ring tip is a gem, first i have heard of this! edit: just found the o-ring link in the description, nevermind!
Yeah it was a game changer! The link isn’t the exact one I used, but the same idea. There seems to be a bunch online 😊
I bought a pair of the washing machine hose washers because they have a built in screen that acts like a pre-filter and they stay put.
Helpful thanks! Do you have one coming up about clothing? :)
Thank you so much for this review and the wise tips 🙏🏻
Was there any specific reason why you went with a pack liner and not a pack cover? This was also a very useful video!
Mari's come a long way gear wise from her early videos.
I have a little swiss army knife too... they come in so handy!! Gr8 video! So what's next? Next time I do the AT (teehee, j/k) I will definitely use these tips! :)
Yeah they’re the best! Hm not sure yet!
I've not seen any PTC videos that talk about female sanitary products used on the trail. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks Mari 😊
Yes! I talk about it in this video! ua-cam.com/video/lt7gQao5Mfs/v-deo.html
Pillow is no longer a luxury item. I sleep so much better with it, now it is a necessity.
Getting a better night’s sleep is so worth it!
👌
Very good video. I liked it so much I just subscribed to your channel and gave you a like. I have the same backpack and water filter. And they good? I love them. Are use this backpack for my winter backpacking trips only though. For the three season time are use a different backpack or different backpacks depending on the situation what year I’m going to use. How much did you spend in the entire trip? Did you use boots or trail runners? I also have the same quilt and I love it. You had very good selection of gear. Thank you so much for sharing this video. God bless you.
Yayyyyy
Always enjoy your video’s ! I think it’s silly to cut off a tooth brush handle. 😂 but people should hike their on hike.😁
Haha agreed!
I did that years ago but not any more. Back then I had a 5 pound backpack and a 4 lb tent LOL
I'm watching the vlogs so I will watch this afterwards to avoid spoilers. However can I ask one terribly nerdy question. We've reached the day when your iPad broke but what did you do with your recorded footage afterwards? Did you carry it around with you or post it back home?
Thanks and btw love the videos
Where did you find the bite straw for your water bottle? Loving your videos!
Hi Mari, love the video!
So what is the green towel that the Bandana was replaced with? It's a PackTowl right? Which model is that do you remember?
I love your youtube channel Mari lots of variety and you're very beautiful, stay safe
Is there anyway you could Please make a video for the Guys of Nicks Gear he used on the hike?
what about the HMG pack you just switched to in Episode 23?
The backpack video will be out next!
@@mari.johnson Woo! Very excited to hear your comparisons between the packs since I now have the Rei Flash 55.
Not exactly related to the video, but would you consider hiking say, the Appalachian trail or another long hike? Or do you feel like youve been there done that with long distance hiking?
Hi Mari
Thanks for the useful video. I am planing to do the pct next year and I do wear contacts as well. I was wondering how difficult its is on the trail to find stores selling contact lense solution? Did you carry usually 1 bottle of solution with you? Thank you so much,
Simon
I would like to know what Nick carried in his front pack. And how did he like carrying such a large pack in front?
What’s that painting on your wall? One of a kind or where can I get one.
In my experience, mosquitos in the Sierra went to bed at night fall (not sunset). What was your experience?
What piece of equipment was on your pack caring your camera, and did it work good?
Hey mari...I must have missed a video about the clothing layers and footwear...can u go over that as well or link the video i missed please.
You didn’t miss it - It’s not out yet! Sometime soon though!
👍
Awesome video! What was your water storage system; how may liters did you have?
I used a Cnoc Vecto Water Container (geni.us/KqmPx) and smart water bottles. I usually had a 3.75 liter capacity.
Did the pad keep you warmer?
🧥👖 😎
How did you handle periods?
What brand is your mustard yellow sweatshirt? I've been trying to find one like it
It’s Melanzana. My clothes video will be out in a couple of weeks!
@@mari.johnson Thank you! Love your videos, by the way!
Watching this in 2022 the "I never wore this mask" got a 🤨 out of me until I looked at the posted date and realized this was from the Before Times.
haha this made me chuckle - the "Before Times." I brought the mask for fires, but fortunately didn't need it. If I were hiking this year, I'd definitely keep a few masks for hitchhiking, town stops, etc.
@@mari.johnson And they're still useful for fires!
Super random and unrelated - I love the painting behind you. Where's it from??
I'm planning on hiking the pct with only my undies
*ultra* light
