Majuli is not (repeat) is not the biggest river island in the world. In order to be an island it will have to be surrounded with water and Majuli lacks it. From the North-Lakhimpur side one can enter to Majuli by vehicles.
Perhaps this might be the reason it is in the tentativeist of UNESCO. Not declared as the largest river island in the world.
It is a misconception of the people.
The largest river island are
1. Bananal island of the Araguala River in Brazil in the world ( citation needed).
2. Also, encompassing approximately 49,000 sqkm Marajo in Brazil is the largest river island in the world.

We need to save Majuli island,it has a large biodiversity.& DAM construction is needed to stop erosion,govt. has done an agreement on DAM construction,but the work ia not started yet.

Such a sorry sight 😞 BBC (orginally a foreign news group) at least we should be thankful for covering this story. NEWS agencies in this country doesn’t have time to concentrate on these issues. They are either busy with buttering political parties, glorifying political leaders & making them larger than life or holding stupid talk shows with hate speeches, foul words against each other, violence. A journalist even claiming to be a son of the soil doesn’t have time for covering all these. #thankyouBBC for atleast listening to the sorrows of the people in majuli, the endangered majuli and its heritage.
