Circular stained-glass panel. 9 March 2024

Hi Folks, sorry this is so shaky! This is a project that I have just finished. It’s a decorative, leaded, circular stained-glass panel. I wanted a change from making the delicate silver jewellery that I have been making, so I decided to revisit my stock of stained-glass that I have used on past projects. The finished panel is 350mm diameter (just under 14 inches) and it stands 500mm (just under 20 inches) from the base to the top of the circle. It was going to be what I call, ‘A five-minute job’ but as ever all of my five-minute jobs take far longer than I originally thought. I love the design and manufacturing of everything that I do so I don’t mind spending the time on it. I collected the driftwood base from the high-water line on the beach at Aberaeron in Wales in the UK, about a half hour drive from our home in Aberystwyth. The wood took several weeks of drying. After cutting the glass and soldering the lead I formed and polished the steel frame and then ‘blued’ the steelwork with a gas torch. The steel and base have been waxed. I think I will see if I can ask one of my outlets if they will sell the panel for me. I find it very gratifying when any of my work sells. I like to cover my material costs and add a little for my labour, I think if anyone wanted to try and make any serious money out of a hobby it would be quite difficult, I just love the idea of my work maybe lasting for 100 years or more and maybe being handed down from one generation to another. Anyway, I hope that this video serves to inspire others to have a go at making something.

Very nice Andy! At the beginning of this video I thought it looked like a $. With the Bule/green at the bottom it looks like a bridge over a river Nice work!
