Hey MOTODEMIC! You guys make some great stuff. I installed the 8700 Evo 2 headlamp into my '16 T120 and absolutely love the light output when night riding. I get alot of questions from people about the headlamp and always recommend MOTODEMIC products to them. Thank you for making quality products!!
Amazing just how tiny details improve also the looks of the bike, it looks way better with a 7inch headlight, the xsr700 would also benefit from a mod similar to this.
Completely agree. We have options for the XSR700! A set of headlight brackets and a headlight is really all that is needed. Since we don't have them here we can't get our hands on one to offer an off the shelf kit.
We didn't cover that in this video because that can be a video in itself. Since Yamaha uses the signals as running lights and signals, there are a couple options for how they are wired and other products on the market to allow 2 wire signals to be used as 3 wire.
Good video, and looks like a quality kit. After watching this, i am glad i passed on the XSR900, but it is good Motodemic is offering a solution for the headlight problem. I am not sure what Yamaha was thinking when they introduce a 3 cylinder which is difficult for many to want, then made the sale more challenging by installing the worst tail lamp they could find, offsetting the fuel cap and if that wasn’t enough to dissuade buyers... they put a substandard headlight on it. Seriously a huge fail on Yamaha’s part, but Motodemic’s conversion is about the best answer out there for the headlight
Great video. It is a shame you cannot reuse the original brackets though, they are one of the nice feature of the XSR 900. One question though, I thoughtconversion to LED required some sort of "adapter" for lack of a better word located under the seat in order to avoid ruining your battery lifespan or electric circuit. I am no electrician by any mean so forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject and I might be completely wrong here but I believe to remember this is done to a difference in... amps maybe? Put it this way, I did not think you could just plug an LED front or back light and voilà.
You are correct with turn signals. They usually require resistors otherwise the signals don't blink at the proper rate. Other than that, halogens can be replaced by LED's without issue. In fact LED's in general draw far less power than halogens, and have expected lifetimes that often outlast the life of the vehicle they're being installed on.
I didn't see you install a grommet or something to prevent water from seeping in the back of the housing. Are all the wires in the light designed to get wet, or did I miss something? Getting my XSR next weekend and considering this light if the stock one is lame. I ride to and from work in the dark during winter.
The need is not there. The stock bucket is open in the back and in the front around the retaining rings, just like this one. If any tiny amount of water gets in it will drain out of the bottom. If there is enough water in the bucket to cause a problem then you have much bigger problems, and a life vest ;) Great choice on the XSR900, such a great machine.
Do you have to have your 'aftermarket' indicators/blinkers to work with this headlight? (What aftermarket blinkers are they you're using)? Does an adaptor come with the headlight kit to use the oem blinkers? Nice headlight, really liking its style. Is that a blue tinge to the light I see or is it just the camera? Does it come in a 5K pure white output? Ta
Steven Febvre - In the install we use Motogadget m-Blaze Pin indicators, most M8 thread indicators will work. The stock signals are not compatible. The light color output target is 5k, very close to pure white.
All hyped up and ready to order one. Then I saw that this specific headlight goes for just over 1000$ I know led's don't grow on trees and you pay for a good finish, but a grand is a bit on the steep side. Still want one though but goddamned... I work in a mall you guys, slow down!
The Adaptive model is definitely at the high end of the spectrum, the LED unit itself is $665 of that price. We do offer other light units to help get the kit down to other price points.
How much space is there inside the headlight bucket? The OG one is cramped and after I had to put additional stuff of my new indicators in it, it nearly bursted.
boutthatboost this kit can work on the FZ/MT-09 but there are some differences in the wiring on that bike. Check out our FZ/MT-09 Headlight Brackets page for more info - motodemic.com/shop/fz-09-custom-headlight-brackets/
We offer a couple Dart options that are compatible with this conversion. They use our brackets and the Dart screen - motodemic.com/shop/xsr900-flyscreen/
Awesome video, man....quick question tho... can this be done in an xsr 700? im in australia, and there's a dealer who imports your stuff, think the xsr 700 would need a 5 3/4" headlight....i suppose they are from jw speaker?
sayemhaider this conversion does not work on the 700 but we have the components to swap the light. We’ve helped many XSR700 and FZ/MT-07 customers with a setup. We are currently developing a specific parts for the 700 and a solution that work in the stock housing (it’s not standard so the 5 3/4 doesn’t drop right in).
At the time of filming this video, we did not have a plug and play option for this bike. Turn signals aren't covered in this video at all because there are multiple ways of going about them due to the signals being a 3-wire setup (running light). We now have plug adapters but they only cover the turn signal functionality.
Hi, will this 7" retrofit lamp also work with my DART classic fly screen? Would hate to loose the fly screen. Will it bolt onto the new headlight mounting bracket or does it require extra mods and/or equipment? Thanks. V cool.
Hello Steve! The brackets that attach your Dart Flyscreen to the stock headlight brackets do not work on this conversion, BUT we do have brackets that are compatible. Follow this link and check out the XSR900 Flyscreen, you can select "None" to only order the brackets for the conversion - bit.ly/mdxsr900
Two Steps From Hell it sure does! The only difference is that some regions have a front position light that needs to be unplugged. Our LED lights are ECE compliant and since they have a symmetrical latter are legal for both directions of traffic. We’ve shipped these conversions all over the world and haven’t heard a single complaint.
100% compatible and the same connections. The only difference is the parking/running light which can be unplugged and tucked in with the rest of the wiring.
Good video...bike looks so much better!. I'm hoping you will do a conversion for the new Triumph scrambler XE...I like the bike but the headlight is too small. Steve
Thanks for posting this video. I love what Motodemic is doing for the XSR! - The only thing you didn't mention in this video is how the turn signals connect. It looks like some connectors need to be wired on... Is that true? Thanks again!
Zanshin- thanks! We didn't really cover that in this video because that can be a video in itself. Since Yamaha uses the signals as running lights and signals there are a couple options for how they are wired and other products on the market to allow 2 wire signals to be used as 3 wire. MOTODEMIC Thank you for the response. Would you do a video on various ways to wire up aftermarket blinkers on an XSR900? Thank you guys, great product and awesome video.
We didn't cover that in this video because that can be a video in itself. Since Yamaha uses the signals as running lights and signals, there are a couple options for how they are wired and other products on the market to allow 2 wire signals to be used as 3 wire.
MOTOFlip26 it can. We've also had many customers go with our Custom Headlight Brackets and our headlights that are in a smaller housing. Either way works!
Its a shame the stock headlight brackets were removed? They match other parts on the bike, one of the features that Roland Sands took months to design, you just threw in the garbage!! Its 2017 why don't manufacturers give us a nice super bright light like this one from the factory? Dont they have family members that ride that they want to be safe? All stock headlights suck except for Porsche, they know how to make headlights!!
Michael Kastner not sure where you heard Roland designed these parts. Yamaha's in house design team did all the design work to convert from the FZ-09. We had to ditch the the stock side brackets because of the terribly designed stock headlight mounting. It's not the design teams fault, they had to use parts from a Bolt, as all the other heritage bikes do. OEM's aren't using LED headlights from the factory yet for cost reasons. A reflector headlight is very cheap to manufacture, like $8-12 cheap. A solid optic LED will be 20-30x that.
Unfortunately, none. You could always DIY using our Custom Headlight Brackets and headlights we offer, though you may run into some electrical headaches adapting the needed power.
Pulsar Tech this kit will not but we do have a drop-in for that model - motodemic.com/shop/bolt-led-headlight-upgrade/ If you are wanting to go up to a 7-inch like the one in the video we can help with that as well with our Custom Head Light Brackets.
We didn't cover that in this video because that can be a video in itself. Since Yamaha uses the signals as running lights and signals, there are a couple options for how they are wired and other products on the market to allow 2 wire signals to be used as 3 wire.
Definitely not broken. This is an Adaptive headlight so that circular array of lights illuminates as the bike leans. In this case, the camera angle (looking down) and the bike rocking ever so slightly is showing the bottom two lights starting to get power. The right side does it as well if you look closely at 16:06.
MOTODEMIC Hey Brad, can you explain the "rocking ever so slightly" part in more detail? Bc I just noticed the very same thing on my bike today. The bottom left LED on the arc (9 o'clock position) flickers when the headlights are on but the engine is off and the bike is stationary on a rear paddock stand. Where does the rocking come into play and why would that cause the particular light to flicker? You mentioned the right one flickering at 16:06 but I think you meant 16:12?
In the video, the bike is on a wheel chalk that allows the bike to rock side to side ever so slightly. So at after the startup sequence, you can see the bottom optic on either side slightly flickering. In your case, the light may be sensing a slight angle but it's perfectly fine. These Adaptive lights also rely on an accelerometer and when the bike is stationary it's not functioning as it does on the road.
Moto Marcus we offer headlight brackets and a variety of headlights for that model. Head to motodemic.com and feel free to contact us if you have more questions.
Moto Marcus under the headlight brackets section there is an option for FZ-07. This is more of a diy project as we do not have a specific conversion for that model. But with those brackets you can mount a 7 inch headlight. We've had many customers do this. Again, contact us if you have more questions or need further assistance.
Leonardo Lopez since we do not have that model available in the US we do not have a specific kit for it. We do offer headlight brackets that work on your forks and that would allow you to mount the same headlight.
Matt 920 We didn't cover that in this video because that can be a video in itself. Since Yamaha uses the signals as running lights and signals, there are a couple options for how they are wired and other products on the market to allow 2 wire signals to be used as 3 wire.
The light unit is 100% legal in all countries and does not blind oncoming traffic. Projector based headlights have total control of their output and provide more light coverage than a halogen ever could. More light allows you to see and others see you without blinding them. That doesn’t sound very “idiotic”, pretty smart actually 😘
I really like the xsr bikes but the stock headlight was really ugly. I’m glad you guys have this kit available.
Hey MOTODEMIC! You guys make some great stuff. I installed the 8700 Evo 2 headlamp into my '16 T120 and absolutely love the light output when night riding. I get alot of questions from people about the headlamp and always recommend MOTODEMIC products to them. Thank you for making quality products!!

why is that led on the left flashing? looks broken
In the video, the bike is on a wheel chalk that allows the bike to rock side to side ever so slightly. So at after the startup sequence, you can see the bottom optic on either side slightly flickering. In your case, the light may be sensing a slight angle but it's perfectly fine. Leonardo Lopez since we do not have that model available in the US we do not have a specific kit for it. We do offer headlight brackets that work on your forks and that would allow you to mount the same headlight.
How much will cost me, headlight and headlight b hinges brackets?
hey how much will cost me headlight and headlight brackets and can i order in Switzerland?
@@leonardolopez1854 Hello ! I just got an XSR 700 and was wondering the same thing (from Switzerland as well). Did you find a solution ?
i love it .
No on road footage??? C'mon what's the point. Pretty cool tho just wish you showed some beam pattern!!!
Follow the link in the description 👍
wow nice
Umm anyone else notice they just left lose wires from the turn signals inside the housing and didn't hook them up?
Matt 920 We didn't cover that in this video because that can be a video in itself. Since Yamaha uses the signals as running lights and signals, there are a couple options for how they are wired and other products on the market to allow 2 wire signals to be used as 3 wire.
Nice
Slick!
Coolllll
8 lbft lol.. so 96 lbin on those hex screws. Maybe 15-20 lbin max on those suckers.
meh! I think Vitpilen 701 with protective bracket could be a much better choice.
I wish i could buy this but the price of this and me spending a lot in safety gear like arai dont let me buy it and i will never buy chinese knockoff
1 month later. I bought it, its great
sexy af
what an idiotic thing to do ,.. now you blind those in front of you and your bike is not longer street legal
👏🏾👏🏾😍
Is it possible to do it on a MT10 ?
What about the turn signals?
What about the blinker wiring?
Richard Mitchell we offer them pre-wired or you could wire them using the connections from the stock signals.
@@motodemic I'm guessing this is the 1000 dollar package?
Richard Mitchell correct, the Adaptive model is shown in this install 👍
